Your Top 10 Desert Island Albums
I agree about the 90s having some great music! I think it was the last decade of great creativity before the multinationals started taking over (also record labels :/). Same can be said about movies imo... As for earlier years, I think a lot of it has to do also with the music you grow up with and I assume there are not many members here who were growing up in the 60s or even 70s :) I´ll have to think about my 10 desert island albums hehe

I did not mind the christian themes in the Birds video. :) And sure anything can be twisted or interpreted in a million different ways.

Ill still rather listen to Champagne Supernova than Bohemian Rhapsody any day though haha (Noel is and always will remain the chief in my eyes :guitarist: )

I must admit I did not even notice the clapping on Adventure until it was pointed out here on a thread or in a review I read *lol* Now every time I hear it I see the monkeys in the video doing the clap dance haha

Should Coldplay write "epic" long songs? =\
Its part of why they are long epic songs yes hehe But I dont think its as well executed if after a while I feel "ok this is getting a bit boring". I dont feel that about Up&Up so thats why I think it was better executed as an "epic" song. Another well executed one is Bohemian Rhapsody imo.

Should Coldplay write "epic" long songs? =\
Up&Up was a successful long song for sure :) Much better than Champagne Supernova or All Around The World imo.....and im speaking as a huge Oasis fan :) But I still think those two songs are too long and repetitive while Up&Up remains fresh to my ears even after repeated listenings.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Yes I can totally understand that criticism and I must say up until recently I have shared it almost fully. But I mist admit that after my last two-three listenings I have actually begun to wonder how the album would have sounded like without Stargate providing a cohesive homogenous production throughout all the different genres. Yes Up&Up would have sounded better to my ears as the live version as a stand alone track, but would it have fit better in the album in that version? Im tending towards saying no it would not. Im thinking of MX and how tracks like PoC stood in stark contrast to say Major Minus. They are both excellent songs to my ears but the fact that we have PoC, MM and songs like UATW in the same album (sounding so different) makes MX an interesting experiment but inevitably incohesive sound-wise (MX balances this out by having a common lyrical theme throughout actually which tie the songs together in other ways). AHFOD instead actually sounds like an homogenous body of work to my ears, where songs like Everglow and Hymn and title track can play after each other and you still dont feel like its a huge change in soundscape. This cohesiveness I believe is due to Stargate production, which ties all songs together so they dont sound like a collection of songs but a homogenous album. Despite not being a great fan of this kind of production, I think it served its purpose in making AHFOD, with its diverse sounds, a "proper" album.

Haha funny post :) Would you have wished more songs like Hymn? Or more experimental like XMTS? Thats whats great about Coldplay. People like different things because they have made so many different songs :)

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Me too. Not even Noel, the master of B-sides, really makes B-sides any longer...I guess its no more viable marketing or something, which is a pity cuz I loved B-sides too by many bands.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I´d love to see an EP released, especially since we are to expect a somewhat long hiatus now until LP8 :/

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I personally prefer the live version to the studio version but you honestly cant say that Stargate "messed it up". I think in the discussion there is a tendency to forget that Coldplay signed off on ALL these songs as what they wanted them to sound like and thats why they are the way they are on the album. If they had been unsatisfied with Stargate job , they would have changed it. Avicii comes to mind as an example of a production they were not happy with and tinkered with a lot before getting it right, so it would reflect more the "Coldplay" sound than the original Avicii edit. So if Up&Up is the way it is, its because thats how they wanted it. I would imagine that if what Stargate brought to the songs had been unsatisfactory, Coldplay would have certainly not continued the collaboration and finished a whole album with them as producers...

^^Dunno what it is that is so attractive about these piano covers for some fans haha Its like "turn any Coldplay song into a piano cover and it will be alright" LOL Yeah nah...not hearing it. These covers are a lot of fun for players to do (I know all about it! hehe) but as a listener its pretty boring imo.(but its probably of use if you want to do a karaoke :D

I´d agree with you on the overall album being slower (Parachutes had yellow, dont panic, Shiver, etc), but as far as sleep factor goes, Parachutes is still a winner for me. Some tracks on that album make my eyelids drop in no time *lol* Maybe even if both have a somber mood, they are different to my ears. The first seems to convey the general feeling of "Im a loser, I dont have a girlfriend and life sucks but im slightly hopeful at the very end" (Chris in his early years LOL), while GS says "this sucks, I lost something I loved but I´d be damned if I let it get me down, Ill find that light at the end of the tunnel" (more mature Chris). So yeah I dont know...they definitely impact me in different ways even though as you rightly said they are quite similar in tone.

My impression about GS (unsubstantiated though, I have no way of knowing if this is true...) is that the album went pretty much unnoticed by the "general public" , known mostly only to the fans. The only song that most people knew from that era is ASFOS. So I agree with @alisbe here, I think the comments from people saying they are "boring" are due to the fact that they only are familiar with the early Coldplay. If you only know something peripherally you´re more likely to base your judgement on the few things you read on the media about it, and we all know how much Coldplay was chastised and talked about for being "bedwetters" hehe. You know Ill be curious to see what people reaction will be after the Superbowl. I think it might surprise a few of those unfamiliar with Coldplay, especially in the USA :)

=== The Ultimate Newplaying Thread===MX, GS, AHFOD===
To me its all about what I feel like hearing at a certain time. Yesterday for example I needed some X&Y and A Rush and I was like "no way: im not listening to AHFOD!" hehe Today I only wanted to listen to AHFOD and it was great. So it varies with my mood in my case. I personally find magic in all their albums and almost all tracks. Its what makes them special to me :) Cant say it has ever gotten lost to my ears, so far so good *lol*

Random Coldplay thoughts...
^^ Its nice! I would not mind it as one track interlude, but a whole album like this? No no no...I NEED to sing along, Im a singer "its in my blood" *LOL*

=== The Ultimate Newplaying Thread===MX, GS, AHFOD===
Yes thats my impression as well. I think its because Newplayers tend to like the whole package, but to be fair to Oldplayers its also easier to be "tolerant" and positive about the old stuff, when the new stuff is going in a direction you like hehe Its the other way around for people who only like the first 2-3 albums. I mean I can imagine if Coldplay went ahead now and did 3 albums all in the same vein as Parachutes, I would not only fall asleep but I would also be pretty bummed out *lol* So yeah I do get both perspectives make sense. But maybe its also a matter of genres. Newplayers tend to embrace a wider range of genre, while Oldplayers I noticed are mostly only into alt/rock. Personally I hope they always make mixed albums as they have done so far, so we both get something like Everglow but also something like Hymn. This kinda suits me fine :)
