  1. Not a bad interview actually since the journalist was quite restrained and humble. I was expecting one of the Aussie 60 Minutes crew to do a feature on their Australian tour and join them backstage at the Melbourne and Perth shows. Then they could have shown all the places that the band have visited in their spare time, such a good potential report gone to waste. But, it was nice to see something of the guys on TV.
  2. Now here's a band that's well overdue for a tour in Australia! I love Travis, i've been a fan since the Man Who. Album ranking: 1) 12 Memories 2) The Man Who 3) Ode to J. Smith 4) Good feeling 5) The Invisible Band 6) The Boy with no name (the only hugely disappointing album in their collection :( )
  3. lol again? I thought they'd twice resolved the fact that Micky and Rose can never cross back over the rift to the parallel universe? Unless the Doctor plans on visiting their past....
  4. lol it was rather randomly placed wasn't it? I actually think it was a quote of a quote! Let me know once you've posted the video, i've love to see it again. Makes we wish I had actually brought a camera now. A lot of concerts that i've been to get a bit particular about taking photos in a stadium so I try to avoid it.
  5. The mobile phones was an increadible moment, i've never seen something so simple yet so asthetically stunning.
  6. Only being facetious ;)
  7. 1. Viva La Vida or Death and All of his friends: There was just no negotiation with this album, it just simply won me over from frist listen. It's everything i've wanted to hear from Coldplay: experimentation, more guitar and a variety of tones. Did I also mention it was produced by the one and only Brian Eno? VLV also marks the first Coldplay concert i've ever been to and so far, it's been my favourite. VLV is actually amongst my top ten albums of all time. Top 5: Viva La Vida, Yes, 42, Violet Hill, Cemetaries of London. 2. A rush of blood to the head: This was my first Coldplay album and until VLV, my favourite Coldplay album. I absolutely played this album to death in the years between this album and VLV. X&Y had been overlooked and I easily crowned this as their best. Every track on this album is a winner, it has the anthems and the obscure. It also contains my favourite Coldplay song, Clocks. Top 5: Clocks, In My Place, God Put a smile upon your face, The Scientist, Amsterdam. 3. X&Y: Only very recently (the last 2 months after owning the album for 4 years) has this album grown on me. When it was first released I was disappointed and concerned that Coldplay were falling into a formulaic and comfortable sound. To be it was everything that AROBTTH had covered but just half as well. But, in times gone by after playing and replaying and replaying and replaring VLV and AROBTTH, I have found myself going back to this with a new found optimism. I think it's also after hearing some of these songs live I seem to appreciate them more. I think this album has some of Johnny's best guitar riffs, but the album also has some songs that let it down. Namely The Hardest Part, What if and A Message. I'd say this is the album which has grown on me the most, certainly not a pleaser on the first listen. An album that has an equal share of classics and disappointments. Top 5: Twisted logic, X&Y, Talk, Speed of Sound and Low. 4. Parachutes: This used to be at number 3 but I very rarely play this album anymore. Not that I dislike it but I just prefer the complexity of their later works. Everytime I go to listen to a Coldplay album on my iPod, it's generally the top 2 and if I want a break from those, X&Y. I should probably revisit this one a little more now that i've started to like X&Y. Strange as this may sound, it also contains my least favourite Coldplay song, Yellow :embarassed: Top 5: Spies, Shiver, Everything's not lost, Trouble, Sparks.
  8. lol they'll never go that far! Although an image of Chris doing a set of devil horns with his fingers at the piano is somewhat amusing. I have to say though, i'm open to them doing some more guitar oriented tracks since Johnny is so damn good at them. Besides, Violet Hill proves that you can have just as much guitar in the one song as you can piano.
  9. Don't forget: 10:00PM - CSI: Coldplay 11:00PM - Doc Martin (spin-off of Doctor Who) 12:00AM - Coldplay's Kitchen (reality cooking show with Chris Martin doing a 'Gordon Ramsay') 1:00AM - Days of our Coldplay (drama series. In this episode, Chris discovers that Will has been spending time away from the studio only to be corrupted by Bono)
  10. Bono? Alan McGee? Is that you?
  11. "Oh thank god you're alive, I thought you really passed out and died out there on the stage. Ummm....oh yeah....YOU F***ING ROCK!" OR "Hey, Bono, good show. Couldn't agree more on that Chris Martin fellow, what a wanker!" OR "Do you have change for a tenner?"
  12. Actually I think they're hardest guitar riff would have to be Violet Hill, especially when played live. It's so deep and abrasive. It's the closest to hard rock they've been. And yes, I agree, the only way is forward for them and I can't wait :)
  13. I'd like to see them continue exploring. It would be a real anti-climax to do such an amazingly innovative album like VLV only to follow it up by going back again. I'd like to see them experiment for another couple of albums. Kid A? Absolutely, but it won't happen. But, I think we can expect to hear mor experiments with electronica, strings and harder guitar riffs. Think along the lines of Violet Hill, Yes and Lost.
  14. Just a pretty quick question and thread, last night at the Melbourne Gig, before getting into Strawberry Swing, Chris mentioned that he had written this song in Melbourne. Has anyone heard him say this before? I have a feeling he was just being nice as the last time he was in Melbourne would have been around 2005 or 2006. Given that he's a prolific writer, I doubt he would have held onto that song for 2 or 3 years only to contribute them to the VIVA sessions since he would have written so much material in between. Any thoughts?
  15. A very belated short review from the third and final Melbourne concert. This is my first ever Coldplay concert and easily the biggest i've seen. I'm nothing short of being blown away. There were so many highlights, I can't name them all because i'll basically be writing a transcript of the concert. But I was taken by surprise by their encore acoustic performance on the stairs close to where I was sitting. I also loved the trancy rendition of Talk and Viva La Vida was perfect! Another thing I have to say about this band is that i'm convinced they're not motivated by the money, it really is about the music. I say this because out of all the concerts I have been to, I really feel as though I got my money's worth. Given the size of the production, sound and the fact that it's Coldplay, I can't believe I only paid $280.00 for 2 tickets - honestly. Consider this: I went to see Crowded House last year at the Forum, an intimate Gothic Theatre in the city. Each ticket was around $90.00 and the show was very straight forward: band, music and basic light show. I loved it! I'm a huge Neil Finn fan so I was naturally euphoric by the end of it, but with Coldplay, for only $50.00 more, the size and premise of the show was expanded 10 fold. What i loved about the concert is that there was always something to look at. At any concert, no matter how good the music is, it can get boring just looking in the one direction at the musicians doing their thing, as time goes by, your eyes wander around the venue while taking in the music. At Coldplay, my eyes were the busiest they've been. If I wasn't awestruck by the eccentric Chris Martin, I was looking at the screen or the spheres hanging from the ceiling or the confetti showering over the venue. Then there's the merchandise, it's the cheapest its been. The program, being only $25.00 is the largest and most colourful i've purchased from a show. Chris Martin said during the show that he had 12,000 special guests, I walked away that night feeling like one of them. I'm convinced that for Coldplay it's more than money and marketing, they have passion and there's no letting up. It wil be a while before i'm this swept off my feet. THANKS COLDPLAY! Can we do this again same time next year?
  16. Actually, I saw Crowded House last year at Rod Laver and it was 100% seating - floor included. I also believe that The Eagles and Billy Joel were similar too. But for an act like Coldplay who are targeted toward younger audiences like ourselves (20 to 30) i'd imagine they'd go for standing.
  17. WOO-HOO!!!! They're playing on my birthday - MARCH 3. Best Birthday gift ever. Shame about the VISA pre-sale, i'm a Mastercard Holder (bugger it!). I've never been to a Coldplay gig. What's best? Seating or standing?
  18. Like the rest of us, MusicMad is entitle to his opinion. My only response to his review is that its a shame he couldn't connect to the record that other people could. I think it's their best album. For me, the growth and experimentation makes this album really worthwhile. There's an energy in the music that hasn't been present in past Coldplay releases. I can't wait to see what the future brings.
  19. 2009 will be the year for the Australian Coldplay tour, i'm willing to put money on it. I can't imagine 2008 being a possibility since everything seems to be tightly booked. But 2009 is a safe bet, there's no way that they won't tour down here for this album. In fact, if anybody, their management would be pushing the hardest for an Australian tour since their albums sell so well down here and get so much airplay. It would be very unusual not to hear from them. But, we'll have to wait until 2009 I think.
  20. I can relate to that. You hear so much hype about something, you can't help it but only have high expectations, only to be disappointed upon listening. That situation is generally termed as "over-rating" ;)
  21. If a new batch of studio songs isn't a reality, I'd like to see the band release a 2CD set covering the 2000-2009 Best Of, kind of like U2 did. Except, Disc 1 would be hits and Disc 2 would be B-sides. U2 did this, but the B-sides disc(s) were only made in limited quantities.
  22. I hope you're right, i'm dying to hear what Coldplay's b-sides sound like.
  23. Yeah, if you can get it, go for the jewel case. A much shinierm durable package than the cardboard case, I can imagine that creasing and getting dog-eared really easy.
  24. I've been wondering this too :) I'd very very interested to hear some of their other experiments that didn't make it to this record...maybe those songs that the band felt were too left field for Coldplay. I believe one track is titled Post Cards. I'm still hanging out for a 2 disc b-sides compilation :D
