I'm not too sure about EMI myself, but the person in Dick Clark's office knows the music business and all its details. I am sure they could explain and recommend some things to me since they are in the know. I can try calling them on Monday and see what she says.

So, if you're not a metalhead then you must not know music, correct? I'm not saying that metal is rock per se. I am saying that it is a branch in the rock formula, tree, pyramid, etc. It grew out of what many considered the rock formula. I wouldn't considered old Metallica as rock but metal, but I would consider the new Metallica as more hard rock. I based my favorite ten artists on the rock formula and that is it. Whatever. I guess I don't know shit.

Well, this sounds weird but a few years ago I talked to someone in Dick Clark's office about an event which coincide with the convention. I still have a contact with this person in Dick Clark's business office. Anyway, I can give them a call to see if they know how official fan clubs are formed and what one needs to do. I know that sounds weird but Dick Clark and his people have contacts with everyone in the music business and I am sure they can provide insights to all things dealing with fan clubs. BTW...do you all know who Dick Clark is?

I agree that Coldplay needs an official fan club. Besides the obvious benefits that you mentioned that is a part of being a member of the fan club, it is also very beneficial to the band because it allows them to keep in touch with their fans, though they do a pretty good job with that now. The thing with conventions is that they are held every year even when the band is not on tour. Fans all around gather to mingle and have fun. Conventions even allow folks who do not post on forums to come and socialize with other fans in a fun atmosphere because there are people who would rather join fan clubs and not post in forums. I am willing to start one up since I do know some things about fan clubs and conventions.

Well, that's nice to say. :rolleyes: Thanks, I guess I don't music at all. I mean, what the hell do I know? My point being is that in music, it does not matter what the guitars sound like, how the vocals are, and so forth, because all kinds of music falls under one big category and then broken down into sub-categories. Rock music has many different branches and they are all different. Metal may not fall in the rock category in your eyes, but if you look at the musical tree, metal is a branch of that big enormous rock tree. Rock music can not be easily defined and that is why there are sooooo many branches.

They fall into it. Music categories can be compare to a pyramind. At the top of the pyramid is the overall category (rock) and the as you move on the down the pyramind the sub-categories form. Music executives will say that, yeah, metal music and all it's crazy subcategories falls within the rock category. One may not think of some artists as falling within the rock category but according to music industry guidelines those musicians fit within the guidelines. Ex: Genesis. Some may say they are not rock but they do fall within the guidelines. Another example: The Beatles. A lot of people don't consider them rock at all but pop. Well, pop falls under the rock guidelines. The point is if someone wants to know the favorites of rock then they need to be specific because of the category's broadness.

Rock music is a huge genre with many different categories. The person asked what was your top 10 rock bands and not any specific genre therefore any band, whether they are pop/soft rock to heavy metal, can be included in the list because they all fall into the "rock" category. Also, what one might consider to be rock, others may not.
