Knight and Day - 4/10 Not a good sign for a romantic action-comedy when my biggest laugh is the corny and out-of-place explosion in the cornfield that lasts half a second. Luckily, there was someone in the theater who thought it was just as laughably bad and made awkward comments out loud about it. (Normally I hate people who do that, but it was appropriate here.) Action sequences were silly in a stupid fashion, rather than silly in an over-the-top fashion. And the protagonist had virtually no weakness, which in turn made him very boring to watch. But hey, it was either that or seeing Last Airbender, which I hear is even worse.

Futurama - Any fan there?
I love Futurama. It's a certain candidate for my favorite cartoon. But I was rather apprehensive about the thought of bringing the series back after so long, especially since after the first movie (which was fantastic), each subsequent movie was gradually worse. And unfortunately, even though the three new episodes that have aired so far aren't terrible, they're a far cry from the quality of the original series. But there's still plenty of episodes left (23, I believe), so hope remains.

Nice make-up, Emily. Monster Hospital ;)

Toy Story 3 is 'carelessly sexist'
The funny thing is that unlike the original Toy Story, the two sequels actually feature female characters in prominent roles. I think the original had Bo Peep and that was it, and Bo Peep hardly had any lines at all for crying out loud. Also, way to pinpoint Andy's mother as a stereotypical nagger and then completely ignore Bonnie, who, even though I won't spoil it, has an extremely positive depiction. Guess what? CNN Prime Time has a ratio of 3 males to 1 female! The news is sexist! See? Two can play at this retarded game! (bad analogy, but whatever, you get the point)

The New Pornographers
Okay, after sleeping on it for months, I finally said "Screw it" and got tickets for the New Pornos show in L.A. next month. They're playing a very small venue, so that should be nice. I think I've finally decided that "My Shepherd" is my favorite track on the new album. Really pretty.

What were your top 20 Coldplay songs on February 1st, 2006
You almost got the joke. :P Although I became a Coldplay fan in 2006, I think it was later than February. And my favorite was probably Clocks or Speed of Sound. :laugh3: (although granted, I still do rank both of them fairly high)

Toy Story 3 - 9/10 That's a conservative "9", mind you (since I don't like using decimals for ratings). Really, the only thing wrong with the movie was that since so many new characters were introduced, hardly any of them except the villain got proper screentime. Otherwise, it was another Pixar masterpiece (11 for 11 now!) and did the original two justice.

Stars
Yes, "The Five Ghosts" comes out tomorrow. Although you can stream it now on NPR's site.

Who or what got you started on Coldplay?
I was sitting under an oak tree when an acorn fell on my head. It knocked me out, and when I regained consciousness, I realized that I suddenly liked Coldplay. True story! Naw, I just made that up because my REAL story isn't any more interesting than "heard Speed of Sound on the radio in 2006 and decided to check these dudes out". :dozey:

Stars
Stars didn't have a thread? :inquisitive: Edit: (okay, now I see that they did...that saw no activity for two freaking years) Even though I prefer Feist and Emily, I think Amy still has a really nice and soothing voice. I don't mind Torq either, but Amy is definitely the star (no pun intended). My favorite songs are probably "Ageless Beauty", "Midnight Coward", and a couple tracks off the new album (which is streaming on NPR) like "The Passenger".

Neon Bible or Funeral
Golly, I love The Well and the Lighthouse. One of my favorite tracks on Neon Bible, actually. The only ones I'm not too keen on are the aforementioned Windowsill and ATB. That said, Funeral is the superior album, especially since there are no tracks on there that I'm not too keen on. Funeral is pretty much a masterpiece the whole way through, and while the tracks work just as well as standalone, the way the album flows flawlessly from one to the next is stellar.

"A Message" is beautiful.
"A Message" is one of those songs I couldn't stand at first - likely because of the cheesy lyrics (even for Coldplay) - but it's grown on me. It's simple and pretty and good to listen to when I need to perk myself up. The Hope for Haiti version was good, but I didn't like how much it was sped up, so the X&Y version reigns superior for me.

Coldplayings favourite songs that are 4th on the tracklisting of an album of ALL TIME
Ehrm...Intervention is 4th on Neon Bible, right? I'm seriously too much of a lazy turd to count to 4 right now.

Arcade Fire
In addition to what Alice said, lots of albums don't have titles on their covers. Heck, I don't think Neon Bible did either.

NBA Finals 2010
Wow, Lakers played like shit and still won. Anyway, incredibly pleased with the eventual outcome. Congrats on the repeat, Lakers! Apologies if I sounded like an ass in my above post, but at least I'm not one of the folk setting police cars aflame downtown L.A. :laugh3:

NBA Finals 2010
^ Traitor. :P I've been waiting two painful years for vindication against the Celtics. You hear me, Lakers? If you let me down tonight, I'm going to...umm...well, I'll probably just curse a lot. I want you to destroy, demolish, and outright embarrass them. I want your fans in Staples Center to chastise them out of the arena. I want their supposed "best fans in the league" to cry in mourning for their supposed "best team in the league". Am I a jackass for wishing all this upon the poor Boston Celtics? Perhaps, but you know what? They're probably the one team that absolutely deserves all this pain. If it was another Lakers vs. Magic finals, I wouldn't have cared. I like Dwight and crew. But Beantown must go down. And all this can happen as long as you don't keep passing the ball to Ron Artest. May the best team Lakers win. Let's do this.

Arcade Fire
I like every song so far (though I like "Month of May" less than the other 3), but I'm still holding out on that signature Arcade Fire song (or two or three) that blows my mind in every regard like the first time I heard "Tunnels" or "No Cars Go". And if that means waiting for the album, so be it.

A thread for Joanna Newsom
Whenever I would have a long day of work this past semester, I would just turn on Joanna's newest album and listen to it in its bloody two-hour entirety. Marry me, Joanna.

X&Y five years after!
It is a little amusing to see all this warm nostalgia for X&Y after five years, given how it received a fair amount of backlash upon release. I suppose VLV's more experimental turns has a hand in it, but even though X&Y won't go down as a classic, I think it will be looked upon quite fondly when all is said and done in the Coldplay world.

Petition for the release of a viva la vida tour dvd
I hate to be the pessimistic one (again), but a mere online petition is not gonna change any minds about releasing a DVD, just like how it doesn't help alter setlists. Look, we all would like to see a DVD released, don't get me wrong. But it's ultimately not up to the fans. If they ever do decide to release a new DVD, it will be entirely because of the band's decision. (And don't tell me, "If you never try, you'll never know". I'm tired of that being quoted for everything.) The best thing we can honestly do is to both hope and to continue to support the band. :)
