  1. ^:D phew. I thought it was just me! :P It's got a really pretty melody, but it just gets too repetitive for me. (I have the same problem with Cartwheels and You are My Joy.) :uhoh:
  2. ^Indeed, they do! Which are your favorites? @Bianca- thanks for posting it! I do like the full, clean sound of the new version, though, in complete honesty, it's not my favorite song. *runs and ducks from flying objects being hurled by fellow Polar Teddies*
  3. Rania, what happened??
  4. If you find it, post it up, please! :D I haven't heard the original version yet, and I've been wanting to!
  5. ^Glad you're liking their stuff! :D The first album of theirs I bought was Eyes Open, and I loved it. Of course, Run is off of Final Straw... which is also excellent. ;) I love the Pandora stations... great way to get to know new music! @everyone else... You know I'm always complaining about how I NEVER hear Snow Patrol on the radio here. Well, recently one of our "independent" stations has expanded their repertoire a bit, and they are now playing JUST SAY YES!! Along with Crack the Shutters and Take Back the City! I haven't watched the new Run video yet, but what do you guys think of them re-releasing it? Was it the best choice, or should they have chosen another song?
  6. Wow! I can't believe what happened to Lindsey Jacobellis! :( @Lauren- Johnny Weir has done a performance to Poker Face?! I'm gonna have to youtube that. I'll have to catch up on the figure skating tomorrow. 'tis time for bed. @Angie- yeah, I'd agree with that assessment. Having lots of sharp, or pointy, or sharp and pointy things about and moving at high speeds is not a good combination!
  7. Happy Birthday, Christa! Hope it's a great one!
  8. I missed this yesterday :( Hope you had a very Happy Birthday, dear Viri!!
  9. Hi Erika! I'm Jen :nice: I really enjoyed your mix! Thanks, and thanks for the tracklisting... I'm particularly surprised with the Animal Collective song. I REALLY liked that one, but when I sampled some of their stuff a while ago, I couldn't really get into it. I'll definitely have to give them another shot. Which album is that song from? I also really loved the Metric song. I'll be getting that album, too! :D
  10. Hey Clem! I downloaded your tape, too. I'm sorry I don't have time to do a full, real review, but I wanted to let you know what I thought. First of all, my song order is probably going to be off, because I did a quick listen through earlier, and when I came back, my media player had detected and tagged a few of the songs, and pulled them out of order :( So, I know the names of a few songs/artists thanks to media player. :D 1. Mediaplayer tells me this is Esthero- I Drive Alone. I had not heard this one before, and I like the sound of it alot. Great rhythm and instrumentation and I like the singer's voice, too. :) 2. This one's also new to me. Has a similar vibe to the first song; another great female vocalist. Almost sounds like Alicia Keyes...? 3. Don't know which one's supposed to be track 3, so I'll just review... "Let Go" by Frou Frou, instead :D Mediaplayer also told me the name of this one, but I actually already knew it because it was on the mixtape that I received, too! I really liked this one :) 4. Nice guitar intro... maybe harp, too? Like the vocals.. "it's not over, not over, not over..." Like this one. :) 5. acoustic guitar intro; drums come in. Vocals are familiar... is this Empire of the Sun? I don't know any of their songs other than "Walking on a Dream" but this has a very similar sound. 6. OOOhhhhh! It's Chris! This must be one of his collaborations I haven't heard (I know, I'm probably the only person on here who hasn't heard it! :P) oh, but I love it. Thanks for this one! 7. Again, not sure where this one is supposed to be in the mix, but track 7 seems like a good place for it! :P Media Player tells me this is Stay out of Trouble by The Kings of Convenience. It's good! Has a folk vibe to it, which I like. :) Nice harmonies, too. 8. Nice piano intro. Like the vocals, too. Oh, I really like this one, too. :) '...I don't know, Sylvia..." 9. "...It's a mad, mad world..." hmmm.. I've heard OF this song before, though, I've never actually heard it. Pretty good. :nice: Ok, i've got to run in a few minutes, so I'm gonna do a quick skim over the last eleven (!) tracks. :) - Song 10 repeats the lyric "black and gold..." this one is OK, but not my favorite. - Song 12 is a live track... not bad. - track 13 is unassigned. - and Track 14 is also unassigned... - Song 15- really like the vocals and melody... really pretty - Song 16 sounds kind of familiar, musically. "... put your stones away; put your bow and arrow down.." Like it! - Song 17- guitar, soft vocals. nice melody and harmonies. Like the piano added in, too. - Song 18- So Sorry- Feist! I really like Feist and this album, The Reminder :D - Song 20- really different intro, snapping, lots of synth elements. not bad. - Song 21- this one feels kind of familiar, but I can't place what it reminds me of. another that's not my favorite, but definitely not bad, either. - Media Player tells me I've got... "The Eraser" by Thom Yorke. REALLY liked this one. :) OH! The Moon, by The Swell Season! I  the Swell Season. Love the combination of Glen and Marketa's voices! I knew it was the Swell Season when I heard this, though I hadn't heard this song before. love it. :) -"Breathe Me" by Sia. Like the piano, like the vocals; kind of somber feeling at the beginning. like this one! Sorry for the out of order review, but thanks for sharing your mix! Lots of stuff that's new to me that I enjoyed, and I liked the kind of mellow vibe the whole tape had.. can't wait to see the tracklist! :nice:
  11. Finally, my review for the fantastically patient Yellowtalking :nice: 1.starts softly, with pretty acoustic guitar and humming. Heavier drums come in, unexpectedly, but it’s a nice beat and a pretty melody. Piano, guitar, drums. Singer is singing in a foreign language, so I don’t understand the lyrics, but it sounds really nice! Like this one. :) 2. nice guitar intro… “on a day like today…” nice vocals. This reminds me of something, but I can’t put my finger on what exactly. Nice, not my favorite, but quite good. 3. Sigur Ros, Hoppipola  love this one. It’s actually THE ONLY Sigur Ros song I know… I guess I should check them out. Where do you recommend I start? 4. This one sounds kind of like stuff from the early 90s… “this monkey’s gone to heaven”? I *think* that’s what they’re saying! :P This one’s Ok. 5. Interesting guitar intro. Male and female vocalists… like the melody. Like this one. “you just keep on getting closer…” 6. Mmm… definitely different. A bluesy opening… OH! This is the Dave Matthews Band! Probably off their new album? Don’t know this song, but it’s definitely Dave. :) 7. Nice guitar intro. Oh, this sounds like David Bowie. I know basically NO David Bowie, but this definitely sounds like him. Liking it! “there’s a starman waiting in the sky…” definitely Bowie! 8. Ooh, great instrumentation… a violin and a mandolin! “I wish I was a fisherman…” nice! Really pretty music. The singer sounds nothing like Bruce Springsteen, but for some reason, he reminds me of him. 9. “I love the feeling when we lift off…” good beat; like the singer’s voice. Oooh, I like this. Has a familiar feel to it, but I know I haven’t heard it before. Definitely a rocker… “this fear’s got a hold on me…” Really like this one! 10. This one sounds quite a bit country (but good country!) “you’re in a tailspin..” this singer’s voice sounds familiar, but I can’t place it. Pretty good! 11. Synths to open, soaring vocals, wow! This is really cool! Really interesting instrumentation… can’t make out much of the lyrics, but I really like the sound of this one. “I don’t mean to seem like I care about material things…” Interested to find out who this is! 12. Ahhhh! Gorgeous guitar opening… it’s “Romeo and Juliet”! I know the Dire Straits version… this one is definitely different from the version I have. Love it, though! 13. Ooohh, pretty! Female vocalist and piano. “they’re going to eat me alive, if I stumble…” Really like her voice. ”help I’m alive, my heart keeps beating like a hammer” Like this one a lot! Oh! It’s a demo! That explains the sparse instrumentation. Like it!! 14. Upbeat, fun. Reminds me of Vampire Weekend. “…I’m not down” fun rhythms and melody. Like! 15. DMB! The Space Between. :) Probably my favorite song off of that album (which I haven’t really listened to a lot, to be honest). I loved the first 3 DMB albums, then they started to lose me. I should check them out again! 16. “Seems like the world’s gone underground…” Nice. Love the vocals. Really pretty. 17. “it’s that ancient love…” The singer’s voice is really interesting (in a good way!). Like the melody and instrumentation as well. Sounds like an older track, but I’m probably wrong about that. Like this one. 18. OK, I confess, I think some of these are out of order because the original track number showed up… so I don’t know if this is supposed to be track 18 in your mix, but that’s where I’m putting it. “I don’t feel alright…” Pretty melody, high voice. Like the guitar. “why don’t we share our solitude…” just simple repeated guitar and piano chords, until it breaks into a fuller sound a couple of minutes in. It’s a very nice melody and nice sound, but it does go on for quite a while there at the end. Overall good, though could have been a lot shorter! 19. Wow! That’s a high voice for what I’m assuming is a man. It’s a pretty song… can’t make out a lot of the lyrics… something about “underneath the windowsill…” “Let us be happy while we’re still young” I like it. :) 20. the “protected” track you informed me is supposed to be Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb. I will confess, I am NOT a Pink Floyd fan. The only song I really like by them is “Wish You Were Here”. This one’s OK, though. 21.!!!!!! A Message 2010!!!!!! Love, love, love  Really liked your mixtape! Lots of stuff that was new to me and I'm eager to learn more about! Thanks for sharing it! :nice:
  12. Are you still waiting for a review from your partner?? Take a peek here.... maybe you missed it! If you made this tape, come out, come out and share the tracklisting!! :nice:
  13. I've just finished listening to it and making some notes, but it's now 1:30 am and I HAVE to get to sleep. I will post a full review tomorrow! :nice: Let me just say a couple of quick things... - you included lots of stuff that's new to me and I'm curious about! :) - some songs I know and love... big, big hugs to you for including track 12 and especially track 21! - I could not access track 20- the file said "protected." :( I'll do everything I can to get that review posted tomorrow! Thanks for sharing your mix... I really liked it! :)
  14. Thanks again, fietssleutel, for reviewing my tape... the tracklist/artist info is spoilered below in your original review... Thanks again, to you and Clem for the reviews! :nice:
  15. thanks, Violet! :nice: Do you want the tracklist now, or after you listen to it? I'll download yours later today and try to get a review up by tomorrow. :) @Clem, I'm going to download yours as well... thanks for doing mine! :nice:
  16. ^:wacky: I love him. Have always loved that song. Though I love all his stuff, that one's my absolute favorite.
  17. if anyone would like to listen to/review another tape, here's mine... http://www.mediafire.com/?3azwtjcrgyn Haven't heard anything from my partner yet. :(
  18. @Bryce- can we post up links to our mixes, if they haven't been reviewed yet, or would you prefer for us to wait until the recipient has reviewed it?
  19. ^me, too! :P Also, I can't wait to hear what my partner thought of his/her mix! :D
  20. Yay! I finally got a chance to download and listen to my mixtape. Thank you, thank you, Mixtape Maker!! I love it!! Lots of stuff I don't know and some songs I already know and LOVE! :D Here's a brief and not at all technical review... 1. I know enough about the Killers to know this is them, but not enough that I know what song this is. I do like it, though... been meaning to listen to more of them. Brandon Flowers' voice can sometimes annoy me, but I really like the melody of this song... is the title "Can You Read My Mind?"...that line is repeated a lot. Like it!! 2. No clue about this one, though it does sound vaguely familiar. Starts off with really pretty melody and instrumentation. Singer's voice is very high and almost too sweet...."it's not me, it can't be..." like this one, too! 3. Another one that sounds vaguely familiar... I like the singer's voice alot. starts with piano and vocals, violins come in. "...Love burns brighter than sunshine". nice. The end got a little repetitive, but another good one! 4. No clue on this one. Singer has very high voice... can't really tell if it's a man or woman. Kind of electronica-y (not sure if that's the correct term, but it definitely involves synths!) Reminds me a bit of Erasure w/ its light tone. Nice chorus. interesting breakdown about 2/3 of the way in... is this the same song or does it kind of meld into another; the last section sounds a bit different from the rest of the song. Curious as to who this is! 5. More electronica (again, sorry if that's the wrong term). I think I like this one more than the previous, though. This reminds me of stuff I listened to in high school (in a good way!) :) "Such great heights..." Is this The Postal Service? For some reason I associate those words with them. I haven't heard much of their stuff, but I've been wanting to try them out! 6. :stunned: Precious Things by Tori Amos!!:heart: love this song; love this album! Haven't listened to it in a while... thanks for the reminder! :nice: 7. Don't know this one at all... interesting intro; lots of textures. Very interesting instrumentation and nice to listen to, but not one of my favorites. 8. Again, really interesting instrumentation (electronica-y again). Like the singer's voice alot. "first train home; got to get on it". Like this one a lot! 9. I know this one! Phoenix- Lisztomania! Love it! 10. Don't know this one, but I LOVE it! A Harp! A really lovely female vocalist. She has a really powerful voice. very nice! Can't wait to find out who this is! 11. Is that an accordian I hear? Two voices- a man and a woman. Like this one! 12. The Smiths! This Charming Man!! Oh, I love, love the Smiths, though it's probably been a good 10 years or so since I last really listened to them... I only have them on cassette!! Thanks for this one!! 13. Wow!!! Echo & the Bunnymen, "Bring on the Dancing Horses"! Mixtape maker, I love your taste! :D Love this song, though it's really the only Echo & the Bunnymen I know. I also have this one on cassette! :P 14. The Cure- Boys Don't Cry! Wow, these last three songs take me back! Haven't heard them in a while and really love them! 15. This one I don't know, but it also sounds vaguely familliar. "With my feet in the air and my head on the ground..." I like this one alot, too! 16. Sounds like New Order, but it's not... Joy Division? I don't really know Joy Division, but I know they have a song called "Love Will Tear Us Apart"! :) I quite like this one, too! 17. Don't know this one, either... "There's beauty in the breakdown..." wow! another winner! 18. Oh, I really like this one too. Nice and upbeat. Kind of reminds me of the Killers. Thank you, Mixtape Maker! I really, reallly love this mix and you were right on with your choices... they are just outside what I'm used to listening to, but still really appealing to me! I can't wait to "meet" you and find out the setlist! Thanks again! :nice:
  21. :stunned:really?? did someone sing it, or did they just play it over video? Oh, I hope it works out that you can go!
  22. aw, you're not going to go, Bianca? I read thru the thread pretty quickly (it was a lot to catch up on!) I guess I just assumed you were going. :(
  23. got home from a week long vacation and got to watch this this morning. Loved it, of course!! I really want to see them again... too bad it'll probably be quite a while before I get another opportunity! :dozey: Yes, please enlighten us (at least me) when you get a chance! :P
