Actually, I didn't know about either. Heh. Yeah, a lot of the really technical stuff can be difficult. I had a bad habit of not using the fingerings the music told me to use, which gave me problems. :tongue:

I didn't know you played, Reilly. :cheesy: Anyway, when I get nervous, I get all sorts of jittery. It may help if you find some sort of way to calm your nerves. For me, it's stretching. It helps me get all that pent-up energy out of my body and keeps me loose. Tension is the enemy of any musician. Doing breathing exercises might help, too.

You have no idea how worried I am about bassoon. Just knowing that the bassoon has 27 different keys is freaking me out. :wreck: I remember friends who took it last semester review fingerings, and they'd be like, "1, 2, 3, whisper key," and I'm thinking, "Whisper key? Say whaaaaa?" Hopefully, it won't be too difficult. I'm relieved to hear about oboe fingerings, though. I've taken Woodwinds 1 (flute & clarinet) some time ago, and I play on mine all the time. :heart: It's really interesting to hear you switched instruments so many times, especially seeing as they happen to be instruments that have completely different embouchures. You must be extra talented. :blush: Haha, I LOVE playing 1st horn. I've always been a lot better in the higher register than the lower register. My lower register is a lot better than it used to be, but it could still use some work. Wow, you're part of several ensembles. That's really cool. I can't help but feel that Naturally Brass sounds really familiar to me, although I can't think for the life of me why that is. :thinking: I admire you, actually. 50-70 minutes is the general length of mixtapes in this exchange. How long you end up making yours is completely up to you. It's also nice to keep your recipient in mind. Some people (like me) love long mixtapes, but I know people in here that would much rather have a shorter one. If your partner has any requests they'd like to make concerning the tape, they'll make them in this thread, and that'll help you decide where to go from there. :smiley:

I was so far behind in popular music because I basically wasn't really allowed to listen to it growing up, so I used college as an outlet to help me catch up in that regard. Now, I'm pretty behind in modern classical/band music. It didn't help that my high school band director didn't believe in playing anything that sounded "weird." I didn't really encounter much at all until my first semester of college. I'm getting a little better, though. A friend of mine actually sent me a contemporary classical mixtape in the mail Monday. It was the best mixtape ever. :heart: Oh yeah, that's why the World of Music is so wonderful (and my favorite part of the site). I've learned so much about music, not only in terms of what there is, but about my likes and dislikes. Since I've joined the forum, I've explored so much, and I think I finally have a solid grasp on my music tastes. :D At least she has great taste in music. Oh, so you sang, too? Lovely! A professor at my college sang that aria in a faculty recital (either last fall or the one before, I can't remember), and it was so beautiful. :heart: It's stuff like this that makes me wish sometimes that I could've been trained to sing like that and be a mezzo-soprano.
