Tips for combatting nerves?
Actually, I didn't know about either. Heh. Yeah, a lot of the really technical stuff can be difficult. I had a bad habit of not using the fingerings the music told me to use, which gave me problems.

No, not at all. It's better to be prepared than to be like me, who's always scrambling to finish towards the end before the deadline. :|

In concert pitch terms, that's a C6, if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, "Bohemian Rhapsody" = awesome. :dazzled:

Tips for combatting nerves?
I didn't know you played, Reilly. :cheesy: Anyway, when I get nervous, I get all sorts of jittery. It may help if you find some sort of way to calm your nerves. For me, it's stretching. It helps me get all that pent-up energy out of my body and keeps me loose. Tension is the enemy of any musician. Doing breathing exercises might help, too.

You have no idea how worried I am about bassoon. Just knowing that the bassoon has 27 different keys is freaking me out. :wreck: I remember friends who took it last semester review fingerings, and they'd be like, "1, 2, 3, whisper key," and I'm thinking, "Whisper key? Say whaaaaa?" Hopefully, it won't be too difficult. I'm relieved to hear about oboe fingerings, though. I've taken Woodwinds 1 (flute & clarinet) some time ago, and I play on mine all the time. It's really interesting to hear you switched instruments so many times, especially seeing as they happen to be instruments that have completely different embouchures. You must be extra talented. Haha, I LOVE playing 1st horn. I've always been a lot better in the higher register than the lower register. My lower register is a lot better than it used to be, but it could still use some work. Wow, you're part of several ensembles. That's really cool. I can't help but feel that Naturally Brass sounds really familiar to me, although I can't think for the life of me why that is. I admire you, actually. Juggling gigs and a family can't be easy.

:freak: DO WANT. It's people like him that make me proud to be Texan. Well then. It looks like we have similar tastes. That's pretty much how I feel, too. That's why I love Reid from "Criminal Minds" so much. Me too. :|

MEEEEE TOOOOO. :wacky: For the record, I'm highly jealous of your CSI DVD collection. :bomb: He's from Texas! :cheesy: :dazzled: Yeah, Greg is pretty cute. I've just always had this thing for Nick. Him and Grissom, anyway. Grissom reminds me of myself in the sense that he's kinda out there, so that's why I like him so much. That, and the fact he's incredibly intelligent. Smarts are sexy. :wacky: That's fine. More for me and Natt. :cheesy: :awesome:

He would compliment my excellent taste in men. DUH. ... Nahhh, probably not. :anxious: Thankfully, Wolsty is very flexible about such things. As long as I'm still dedicated to the Wolstencause, I'm good. :wacky:

The 10th Mixtape Exchange (Tapes due Mon., Aug. 8 @ 5 pm CST (GMT -6))
50-70 minutes is the general length of mixtapes in this exchange. How long you end up making yours is completely up to you. It's also nice to keep your recipient in mind. Some people (like me) love long mixtapes, but I know people in here that would much rather have a shorter one. If your partner has any requests they'd like to make concerning the tape, they'll make them in this thread, and that'll help you decide where to go from there.

It's awesomesauce. I can't help but feel I annoyed all my Facebook friends back in 2009 when stuff for "The Resistance" was going on. "Butterflies and Hurricanes." Best. Song. Ever. Welcome to the thread! :wacky: OOOH, that's right, you're the cool one who was in music ed and played horn like I'm doing now. :cheesy: Actually, in part due to this site, I think I ended up doing the exact opposite. I was so far behind in popular music because I basically wasn't really allowed to listen to it growing up, so I used college as an outlet to help me catch up in that regard. Now, I'm pretty behind in modern classical/band music. It didn't help that my high school band director didn't believe in playing anything that sounded "weird." I didn't really encounter much at all until my first semester of college. I'm getting a little better, though. A friend of mine actually sent me a contemporary classical mixtape in the mail Monday. It was the best mixtape ever. Oh yeah, that's why the World of Music is so wonderful (and my favorite part of the site). I've learned so much about music, not only in terms of what there is, but about my likes and dislikes. Since I've joined the forum, I've explored so much, and I think I finally have a solid grasp on my music tastes. :D At least she has great taste in music. Oh, so you sang, too? Lovely! A professor at my college sang that aria in a faculty recital (either last fall or the one before, I can't remember), and it was so beautiful. It's stuff like this that makes me wish sometimes that I could've been trained to sing like that and be a mezzo-soprano. That's not what happened, though, as I just pretty much fell in love with horn, and I'm a legit contralto (sometimes I feel like a borderline female tenor :uhoh:). Clearly you haven't read "The Host." It's so good. People talking about meeeee. I've been meaning to ask you about that, actually. How do you manage being a freelance player? It seems so challenging. No, of course not. You're free to talk to me about music any time you want. I'm a music major for a reason. JEALOUS. I don't have the funds to buy my own horn (I have enough trouble with college tuition as it is, and I live at home :uhoh:), so I'm using a horn the college loaned to me. It's an Atkinson. :\ At least I have something to play on. It's pretty much my baby. I called him Howard. :dazzled: I'm taking Woodwinds 2 (saxophone, oboe, bassoon) this coming semester. Do you have any advice for me? Also, String Methods was a pain in the butt. I got stuck playing viola the entire time, and it was the most frustrating instrument I've ever encountered. D: Dude, you play tenor horn? :surprised: I wish I even had the chance to play one. I don't think I've ever seen one, honestly. I have seen a piccolo horn on a few occasions. THEY'RE SO ADORABLE. Also, flute is awesome. I've grown very fond of mine, which I've named Florence. (Yes, Michael, Florence, after the ginger goddess.) "Soldier's Poem" YES, on both counts. BRB, dying of laughter. ... ... ... Too. Damn. Hard. I CAN'T DO IT. :bigcry:
