  1. Yes, I concede. You were right. I was too quick to judge. Cookie for you.
  2. Pretty much, yeah.
  3. Violet replied to Brent's topic in The Lounge
Actually, having looked back on it, he didn't explicitly say that, but the thread was intended as a forum for discussion about the use of logic in determining whether God exists or not.
  4. Tammi, you have over twice as many posts as the 2nd highest poster. I think it's safe to say you'll be in the record books for a long, long time.
  5. ...So you don't believe in gender roles, yet you dress neutrally in order to make a point to society that you don't fit in a gender because you don't want them to make the mistake that you're a girl because, despite the fact that gender roles don't matter to you, you care about what other people think about it, particularly these "close-minded people" that you refer to in your post. Right. That makes absolutely no sense to me.
  6. So this isn't a matter of gender identity, so much as personal taste? Then why did you say that you try to dress neutrally in order to show your neutrality? I don't understand. Also, you say you don't like assigning genders to things, yet you say things like "comfortable clothes tend to be more neutral," which is doing the exact same thing. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something, but this whole thing seems really contradictory to me.

I think he mentioned earlier in the thread that he left out that option on purpose. Nice to see you around, BTW. I missed seeing your Thom Yorke avi everywhere.
  8. But if you personally think gender roles are nonsense, why does it matter that you try to dress neutrally in order to reflect your neutrois gender identity?
  9. Yeah, I have a hard enough time deciding a Top 25 album list for the poll we do each year. This is pretty much impossible.
  10. Violet replied to Liam's topic in The Lounge
WUT. Sorry, for some reason, I thought you were older than that. :|
  11. Yeah, ONCE. :bigcry: Thanks, though. :wacky:
  12. Yeah, that's my thought process, too. Maybe I'm a bit dense, but I don't see how the two should relate to each other at all. I'm biologically female, and I'm perfectly fine with that, but I don't go around acting really feminine. In turn, me dressing and acting as I do shouldn't automatically mean I'm a dyke. Maybe I'm misconstruing the point altogether, but it doesn't make any sense to me.
  13. I don't see how that's any different from any other cover. A cover is a reinterpretation of a song you yourself didn't write; the cover artist redoes a song in his/her/their style. The fact that Neil Young redoes American folk songs doesn't change the fact that they're covers.

^ Happy early birthday! :nice: I'm 22.

    Liar.
  16. Well, that's stupid, because you're not ugly at all.
  17. Here's what the rules say about what's eligible. "Original studio albums only, please. No EPs, live albums, reissues, or compilation albums. Soundtracks must be primarily original material. For example the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World soundtrack was not eligible, but the Scott Pilgrim original score was eligible." I think the problem that we're having is that cover albums have never been addressed before. I have no problem with including the Neil Young/Crazy Horse album, as long as it's agreed that it's OK, and there's a stipulation added to the rules that allow those types of albums so we don't run into this hitch again. No problem. :nice:
  18. I remember how I once did a celebrity version of one of these things, when it took your face, compared it to celebrity faces, and told you which ones you looked like. It told me I look like Jared Leto. :|
  19. Yeah, agreed. Sorry I didn't clarify this. We all have an understanding that there are things that happen in life that are out of your control, and we're sympathetic to that. However, if you are one of those people who sign up to do this, yet show no interest in participating when the time gets here, then what was the point of you signing up? It's just annoying because it's not fair to the other people who did what they were supposed to do.
  20. Yeah, you'll have to remove the Burial EP. EPs aren't eligible.
  21. Violet replied to mc_squared's topic in The World Of Music
That's really good to know. Thanks for the update!
  22. I went and did a bit of research on this. From my understanding, the songs are merely arranged differently and use the lyrics which, while ignored in present day, are a part of the song when they were originally written (and, as I see, Young didn't write any of these). Based on that, I don't think it should count.
  23. I actually liked Keane's effort this year. Anything is better than "Night Train." As for Muse, while I'll concede that this is their worst, it still has its moments, so I'm not completely shattered. (Then again, my bar was set higher than yours was, and I AM a bit more biased, I suppose, so maybe what I say doesn't mean much.) My biggest disappointment this year was Maroon 5. I know I'm one of few people in the WoM who like them, anyway, but this album is garbage compared to everything else they've done. I had them in my list back in 2010 when they released "Hands All Over." Not even gonna happen this year. Nope.
  24. I imagine that, at some point, there will be some naming and shaming as far as reviews. In all the times I've done this, there was only one exchange where everyone got a tape and a review from their original person. Most of the time, there are always a couple who get left out. Don't fret, though. If in fact your original partner doesn't give a review, there are plenty of people who will volunteer to listen to your tape so you at least get a review for your trouble. (If it ever gets to that point, I will gladly volunteer some of my time to do this for anyone who still needs it.)
  25. "Follow Me" has one of the most magical endings ever.
