Yes, thank you for bringing this up. In case you aren't friends with me on Facebook and/or didn't see what I posted, I made a pretty clear indication of where my beliefs lie as far as gun control. Not even a day before this incident happened, 22 schoolchildren in China were stabbed by some man. People will use guns, knives, drugs, poison...it doesn't really matter. If they want to hurt people, they will find a way to do it. This quote pretty much states my opinion perfectly: "The laws of [false utility] are those which forbid to wear arms, disarming those only who are not disposed to commit the crime which the laws mean to prevent. Does not the execution of this law deprive the subject of that personal liberty, so dear to mankind and to the wise legislator?"-Cesare Beccaria Also, Eddie makes a very valid point with his post. There are so many outlets of media that go on and on about violence, even to the point of glorifying it. This is a pressing problem that needs to be fixed. The problem is figuring out how to make this happen without infringing 1st amendment rights and censoring all things violent. To make my point clear, though, I'm not blaming the media in itself (movies, games, music, etc.), so much as how it is marketed and how we as a culture treat it. Either way, this is a sad state of affairs. Shootings in themselves are bad enough, but when they involve young children...I can't even imagine. My brother does work-study for an elementary school, and he had a pretty heart-wrenching status about how thankful he was to see his kids and how he was glad he got to spend his birthday (He turned 21 today) with them. My thoughts are with all these children and their families.

Having looked at the "Rock Album" category (I just realized both T2L and MX were nominated for that...what the hell :wtf:), yeah, I'd have to go with Jack White also. It's the most consistent out of the three I've heard. I can't say I agree with your list of rock bands, though, mostly because the vocalists of both Titus Andronicus and Cloud Nothings grate me.

I was just going to let it load for a while until it was ready, but I didn't realize the vid was on Vimeo. It's worse than YouTube (which is slow enough on my desktop :\), and I couldn't get it to move or anything. :bigcry: Thanks for the lyrics! I can understand bits and pieces of it (thanks to me memorizing so many Rammstein lyrics/translations) off the top of my head. I'll do a bit of research and see if I can't manage a full English translation. :D

Anyway, I think this is a hard question to answer, seeing as love songs have a natural tendency to come off as cheesy to some people. There's also the issue of different people finding different things cheesy. I actually have a pretty high tolerance for cheese, and I love listening to mushy songs. I'm one in the minority of Musers I know who actually enjoy/love "Neutron Star Collision (Love Is Forever)." It's all a matter of taste, really. My contribution: [ame= ] [/ame] This is probably cheesy to you and others, but it touches my heart in a very special way. I feel like Elbow make some of the most honest and sincere music out there.

That "Sherlocked" bit on that show was so cringe-worthy. I mean...REALLY? (I love "Sherlock," though. I really do.)

While I'm not sure I agree with what you say about the "hot new bands" bit, I definitely agree with your sentiment about new artists. I've listened to a fair amount of those this year, and I've really enjoyed myself. (By the way, props to you for bringing up Django Django. I really enjoy that band.) This. While I'm glad Keane at least went back to basics with "Strangeland" (as opposed to going down the path they were on with "Perfect Symmetry" and "Night Train" :sick:), I wish they would've done a bit more with it. Muse's "The 2nd Law" was hit-and-miss for me. Some of it is really good, some of it I only feel like listening to some of the time, and there are a couple of tracks that I don't listen to at all. ("Explorers" should NOT be 6 minutes long. Jesus.) Two Door Cinema Club did go in a slightly darker direction, and I enjoyed it; I think I just like their brighter debut album more. One of the reasons I grew to enjoy 2DCC is because they were feel-good music for me, and I feel like I lost that with "Beacon." As far as The Vaccines and The Killers, I just found their most recent albums boring. I can't really explain why. It's a shame, really. I don't think you ever have to really "rely" on megastar bands to fill your list if you look hard enough and if you listen to enough music. Even if that was the case, as long as the album is solid, I don't have an issue with that.
