  1. According to people on the scene (including police/fire), the weather was essentially "perfect" the day of the concert. So there's no way that the weather on that day could have played a role in the incident. Although as I mentioned earlier, it would be nice to know whether there were any heavy rains during the days prior that could have made the ground softer than normal. I really hope this is a fake/troll :uhoh: The possibility of that makes my skin crawl. I can understand that the band would want to provide the best experience for the fans, which includes their awesome lighting display. However if they had been warned about the dangers, having been around for as long as they have, it seems to me they would automatically do whatever is safest for everyone involved. So their desire to please the fans would be outweighed by common sense and safety concerns which I would assume they would heed to. Something just doesn't add up in terms of that. Hopefully the investigation will yield clear insight of the events leading up to the tragedy. As far as the timing, this happened around 4:00pm. Considering the venue planned to open the gates 30 minutes or an hour earlier than normal, does anybody know if the band had just finished sound check, or was about to go on stage for the sound check? I mean, this could have only been a few minutes difference before or after the incident if that's the case. EDIT: And also just to get a better understanding of what I saying earlier regarding indoor venues (as well as outside "shed" venues) giving the added stability of anchoring parts of the set to the ceiling, you can see what I'm talking about in the picture below. Everybody was cheering the two guys that were climbing to the top of the upper lighting display, which the front rows actually can't see, and I decided to take a picture. These guys stay up there the entire concert. But also in the picture you can clearly see some of the many wires anchored to the ceiling/rafters which help hold up all that stuff. Ceilings are SO MUCH more sturdy than metal puzzle pieces above (being held up by metal puzzle pieces on the sides). Stages in parks just can't match that stability.
  2. They've had to do that a few times so far on this tour; they did that for my (Detroit) show, they had to travel from Chicago to Detroit overnight. I don't think it is so much a problem of that (although it doesn't help), I think it's the way the stage had to be set up at that particular "venue". Inside arenas like the Palace (or even at the outside "shed" gigs), there is a stable cement floor to erect the stage, as well as rafters above to anchor parts of the setup from above. With the type of stage setup at this park; I don't care how "stable" the ground is, it's nothing like flat cement. Plus there's no sturdy ceiling above to anchor anything to, so there has to be all these back and side piecewise structures built specifically for that. I don't think Radiohead were involved with that, there was a separate base stage-construction firm involved with that; and then Radiohead crew setup their standard lighting/etc. Another thing I'm wondering... even though the weather was "perfect" on that day, what was it like in the days prior? Had there been any soaking rains in the prior days that could have softened the ground a bit? This is so unfortunate on so many levels. I was just telling my husband that it was the drum tech who died, and we both remembered seeing him. As I mentioned before, it's so surreal to think we were watching a person that would lose his life only a few days later.
  3. maybe we can drag Mike in the Lounge to help out with this...
  4. This is so awful. Sounds like it was a crew member. It is so surreal to think that in Detroit I saw whoever it was onstage, not knowing what would happen to him less than a week later. Blows my mind. The band and the rest of the crew must be absolutely gutted right now, with this happening at the last gig on the NA tour. So sad.
  5. Oh yeah I forgot I'm not a teen anymore. :awesome: ooops!
  6. Indeed. I'm not voting. That's not the kind of award I'd like to see them win. Sorry. "Teen Choice" = fickle = people forget about it/them in a year. I cringe at the idea that they are nominated for this; at the same token, I think they "deserve" it for MX. You know what I mean?
  7. Hampstead Heath is great. Lovely view of the city, and you can relax and have a picnic or fly a kite or whatever. I liked taking a boat tour on the Thames. Our tour guide happened to be hilariously snarky, which was a treat. Ride the tube here there and everywhere and intentionally get "lost". Find your way back. I know this sounds weird, but there's a really cool cemetery there (forgot what it's called :bomb:). Of course there's the standard stuff like Big Ben, Parliament (?), London Eye, blah blah blah. I didn't go on the London Eye though, it seemed a bit pricy for going in a circle. If you want to do some shopping, head to Oxford Street, etc. The stairway in the Esprit store is really cool, each step is a different color it's so cool walking up and down. (Or was it the Benetton store? I don't remember.)
  8. When are you going? After the Olympics I hope... :uhoh: I love London but I wouldn't go there during Olympics, even if you paid me.
  9. I seem to recall an article in National Geographic or Discover or something like that which outlined this fact, and how it was actually the more efficient/nicer way to be even though it may not seem that way. Rather fascinating article, it was. In regard to some people in this thread not understanding the women dressed fancy / in business attire yet wearing tennis shoes... it is simply because they don't want to walk around to/from work in their heels. They change into their nice shoes once they get to work. The "average" New Yorker walks at least 2 miles per day (I think); can you imagine walking that in heels? No thanks!
  10. I would have liked to have those 2 (for various reasons). Ah well, I suppose I can't really complain! We had Kid A also; btw in regard to that, when I was waiting in line outside, multiple people were like "omfg *@$@#*&$_$*" your license plate!
  11. It's a Canon PowerShot SD780 IS. Small little bugger, it can fit in your pocket! Although like I mentioned, most of the pics would have turned out better if that fog from the Caribou set hadn't lingered around; the camera had a hard time focusing on the auto setting. I could have turned it to manual; it would have turned been more "crisp" in terms of the coloring, but it would have been more blurry (if that makes any sense). Here are some of the videos; remember to clicky up to HD! 12. Detroit Setlist Here's some pics. The fog that hung around from the Caribou set really screwed up the focus on my camera, but oh well. A view from the front (I don't know why people don't think to take this) Ed pics Thom pics Miscellaneous pics
  13. They let people in the concourse (?) at 5:00, WASTE people first. Yay! Then we had to split up into 4 "fan club" box office lines to get our wristbands and entrance tickets, then move over to one of 6 different lines. Then they opened the main doors at 6:00. Then we ran down the long, horribly uneven stairs to (the back of) GA, and similar to you and Christa we noticed open spots by Ed so that's where we went. What a relief after all the mess from the disorganization at the Palace! So, as you noticed before I posted what the Palace employees were telling people; they would send people away if they tried to enter the parking lot before 4:00. Well, I decided that even though I went up there in the morning, just for shiggles I'll go up again around 1:30 to check things out in person. I am SO glad I did that, because the Palace changed their minds (probably due to numerous complaints) and let people start to wait outside. So I booked it back to my house (just a few miles up the road) to pick up hubby, camera and tickets, and booked it back. One of the WASTErs was writing numbers on hands to indicate order arrival, and I was 63. But by the time the process I noted above went through, we were more like 100 or so. But hey... everything worked out! I felt bad for a couple of girls that were next to us outside in line; they decided to leave to go use the restroom at the McDonalds up the road, and when they came back about 15 minutes later the Palace started charging for parking! So they had to pay $15 to get back inside, even though they were there before us! That made me realize that indeed that is why the Palace wanted everyone to wait until 4:00... because they wanted to be able to charge everyone for parking. Ugh. Yes indeed! And he was actually chatting with a few of us between a couple of songs, that was great! I was a little annoyed by the security guard that was in between Ed and Thom the whole time, because he almost seemed to have a condescending "wtf is this music" attitude the whole time. He kept glancing at the other security dude by us and they were laughing. I'm thinking to myself just shutup and look forward and do your job, numnuts! I'll post some pictures shortly. I did get a few videos, but not too many because I wanted to enjoy the concert more (plus the guy next to me was pretty much recording the whole thing, so I can just rely on his vids if he loads them up to YouTube in the next few days). Oh and I found it rather amusing that after completely avoiding watching/listening to Identikit this whole time so that way I could listen to it live as my first experience... they didn't even play it. Well, my plot was foiled! (Although I did get a full video of Full Stop, maybe I'll try to upload that tomorrow. Err, I suppose that would be today.)
  14. Somehow, even with the effed up process and about 100 people in front of us (which didn't start out that way) we got front row in front of Ed. YYYAAAAAYYYYYYYY
  15. Yeah this is turning out to be a bit of a clusterf*ck... I went to The Palace this morning to verify some info. This is what I posted earlier on WASTE: And this is what somebody else who went to the box office later found out... I'm almost thinking I should have just got seated tickets in Section 101 (the WASTE section) when they unexpectedly released them on ticketmaster last Friday. THIS IS BS.
  16. tomorrow :bomb:
  17. :bomb: oh um yeah and Jack's from Detroit... wouldn't it be amazing... if... Monday...
  18. A couple of hours ago Ticketmaster released seats in the up-close WASTE sections! I told a co-worker about it, and he got awesome seats.
  19. Well, you have a car, don't you? This was my view on the way to work this morning (yes, I live just up the road from the venue)... :awesome:
  20. I WISH. Hey, you wanna stop by Detroit on Monday? :D
  21. My mom told me about it when I was talking with her on the phone last night. I completely forgot about it by the time I got off the phone. Poo. :|
  22. So you guys sat on little chairs when you were waiting outside? And they actually let you bring them inside (folded up) so you didn't have to leave them outside?
  23. bath salts make you eat people
