What have you learned today?
I think they just question how much you are immersing into the ideas of philosophy, rather than learning it, or how much you immerse yourself in Christianity rather than simply associating yourself with it and skimming for certain ideals. I've never known of a true philosopher of life in their own right, coming up with their own things which are recognised within philosophical circles, who is also a hard line Christian. That is completely different to a Christian studying philosophy though, but I fear that is where those who judge you make their mistake.

Your birthday month?
I'm April and it's now become the most popular. What unnerves me, and I wonder if anybody else is similar, is that I was conceived the very month my sister started school. September when my older sibling was 4. Anybody else have something similar. Maybe you were created out of the boredom of not having a kid around. Basically, anybody born in April who has a sibling 4 years older, question why you were born :p

Tips on Flying for the First time?
If you've got a bomb then you can threaten any terrorists. Take your iPod, stick on some Boards Of Canada and get some sleep. Stay awake for a while the night before so you'll be ready for a nap. Aside from that a beer to calm your nerves (since it's a one off flight - I wouldn't suggest it for people who are in planes regularly, or pilots) and then decide whether you want a window seat to admire the view if you want to and you can see the big spaces when you like, then shut the window thing when you don't wanna look, or a more central seat so you can take your mind off things and not be stuck in the corner of a tin box. Also, hit on one of the air hostesses.

I need someone to help me with my writing.
[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJnU3Yi02fo]That Novel You're Workin' On - YouTube[/ame] (only joking, just expected someone to post that when I made a writing thread recently) Will you be looking to add new insights into these types of people or will it just be going into character depth to the individuals rather than just passing judgement over them? There isn't a better one to choose, those are just two possible ways you can go about it, both rewarding when done right, in my opinion. Will it be a short story or novella, or even something larger?

Police in schools
Haha. Christ, is waterboarding allowed here? I should really look in to what our police force is allowed to do, especially when judging other countries on what they do :p

Guantánamo: Some 171 inmates remain, despite Obama's promises
Presumed it had gone. I was wrong. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/11/guantanamo-bay-10-years-on?intcmp=122 Guantánamo: still a part of America's conscience, a decade on • Some 171 inmates remain, despite Obama's promises • Only six detainees ever convicted; around 600 released Thoughts?

Police in schools
Did you have a needle exchange program within the grounds too? I can't imagine it happening in England (or rather having happened recently, who knows what is round the corner since the riots, we are after all looking to America and how they deal with these things, apparently).

Bands you wished you liked
I like Pixies, but I've never heard Frank Black's solo stuff. Where should I start. Anybody wanna make a playlist. I'd like either similar to Pixies or folky, if he did anything like this. I seem to have an image that he went quite folky at some point. I might be wrong.

S'all the same to me.

Senior's photo deemed too sexy for yearbook
I side with the school. The people attempting this are only going to get uglier and uglier when the ugly gene pool wins.

Police in schools
Well this thread has cheered me up a little in the way that it doesn't seem to be such an epidemic across the country and appears to be limited to Texas when it comes to extremities. That's good to know.

What have you learned today?
It is now down to one (according to wikipedia) as Igor Smirnov lost an election last year in Transnistria (a country, or region, I've only recently become aware of). The other remaining country with a dictator is Belarus, headed by a Mr Alexander Lukashenko. Today I learned that the most shoplifted food stuff in the world is cheese.

I'll leave the Charlatans on. Other people may want one. I know I'd listen. I've been listening to quite a bit of 90's stuff recently. Vaccines will be added to the list any second... And you're welcome :) I'm grateful for your contribution too!

Police in schools
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/09/texas-police-schools Just read this article on police in school in the US. It was one sided admittedly, but it did rather shock me. What are your views on this and if you are from other countries do you experience anything similar, would you want to experience anything similar or are you happy with things as they are? Members from America are welcome to post more articles, some of which from other angles to widen my understanding on the matter. I do realise that the cases listed will be extreme, but it worries me that those extremities are possible within the law When I read things like this it does kind of freak me out and deter me away from considering ever living there. (I didn't put this in the news section because I see it more as a point for discussion, and apart from the recent shooting the story was more a summary of the way things have been for a long time). The US schools with their own police More and more US schools have police patrolling the corridors. Pupils are being arrested for throwing paper planes and failing to pick up crumbs from the canteen floor. Why is the state criminalising normal childhood behaviour?
