  1. I will be seeing them (fingers crossed) when they come to Australia in April!!! :D :D :D Cant wait!
  2. Rock'n'roll was never made to be original baby! :D
  3. very true. pj harvey and brmc use a lot of religious metaphors in their songs and you wouldnt call them religious. With coldplay i dont think they are 'religious' in 'i go to church' kind of way, but more in that I think the reference points used in the songs show they are sort of interested in the idea of a spiritual world. ...if that makes any sense?? :D
  4. 1, 2, 3, 4 bam bam bam bam ... are you gunna be my gurl? :D  Great band they are, will be seeing them in januaray at the big day out, im sure theyll rock!
  5. yeah Ive always felt they have a spiritual focus in some of their songs in a sort of universal way - a bit like U2 - which is less about religion per say and more about searching and finding. I sorta hear it in songs like Politik, Daylight Amsterdam and some of their b-sides too. But that could just be me reading into their songs and hearing what I want to hear! :D :D
  6. For me they have their good moments but they also have their average moments. I've got no name face. One or two songs I still like. does their new album show a change in their sound?
  7. :cool4: :rockstar:
  8. The Simpsons I love the episode where Homer has to go to AA and quit drinking. Classic!
  9. IVE GOT THE NEW ALBUM!!!!!!!! YEAH! Rushed out to get it today, its great. A bit different to the first one. Much more fuzz and effects, and probably a bit better production. Julian's vocals are a bit different too, often adding a bit of distortion making it sound even rougher than Is This It (if that is possible). Still I gotta say at the moment I like the songs on their debut a bit better. But Room on Fire is not that far off, and it still rocks big time! I'll get to see them in January, cant wait! :D :D
  10. I am an 'Indie follower' You're indie in that you like indie music. However, you're probably only into whatever your best friend is into right now. You most likely do discover some cool music on your own, but you always seek someone else's approval before it's okay for you to like it. You can appear cool, as long as no one discovers your dark secret. That would probably be sorta right coz I only started getting into indie music bout 2 years ago. Although I dont check with others to see if I should like it, I just listen. And I dont have any dark secrets ... no honest! really I dont!!! :D
  11. Powderfinger!!!!!!!!!!!! Yeah baby :D ... and coldplay too of course ;) ....and radiohead :smug: ....and U2  ....and the strokes :wink3: ....and.... (continues on and on and on) :D
  12. As Sure As the Sun - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
  13. I just blew my monthly budget on new guitar gear :( But it sounds good :D :D
  14. I say everyone, this is what I think - Ktvresjlshtokkd itf ehdbnokks ejit hoankve gtkantl dlkje ndke awjerppps ... or something like that  (... erm I hope that doesnt actually translate to something inappropriate in some foriegn language! :P )
  15. Hey man guitar isnt that hard, if you find its your thing its easy to get into. I used to play piano and only started playing guitar just under 2 years ago and I've got good enough to play in a band and write some pretty good stuff on it. It just takes a while to get into it, I only started sounding decent about 4 months ago. Give it a try :D :D
  16. there are pros and cons of being in a band. Good stuff is you get to play music, the music you want to play and rock it out. You get to write stuff. You have a chance to get your music out there if you are good. There is no high like playing in front of people. you get to have fun with the band members (who are hopefully close friends) Probably lots more too but Im tired so thatll do... Cons - money and time.... as for money ... I bought 100 bucks worth of little bits of gear I needed for my guitar today... not happy  ... as for time... well like when do I have time to be in a band I am studying!!! also keeping a band together is hard work especially if everyone doesnt hit it with each other really well, both as friends and musically. And then there is what happens if you never get success and you end up playing the miserable monday nite gigs at rundown pubs to and audience of 2 people. Jeesh I must be in a down mood today! ;)
  17. I bought the single to Big Sur... it is very infectious, i sorta like it. Almost a bit toooo retro even for me however. Like how could they possibly be so happy when they live in the twentyfirst century? :P What is the rest of their album like?
  18. cheers for the link! :D
  19. Ok top 5 apart from Coldplay 1 - Black Rebel Motorcycle Club 2 - Powderfinger 3 - Little Birdy (this new aussie chick fronted rock band - very cool!) 4 - The Strokes 5 - Idlewild
  20. Ive heard stacks of stuff written about the stereophonics but only actually only heard one or two of their songs... was planning to check out one of their albums sometime down the track... any suggestions?
  21. I havent actually got the new album but I have listened to a lot of it... mmm thats a hard one. I think the production is better on the newie, but I am still drawn to my favs from the old album - Love Burns, WHTMR&R, Head Up High. They played Salvation as the last song (before they went on jamming in flying for about 10 minutes afterwards!!) and that was brilliant, was much more intense live. Im going to buy the new album next week so I'll give it a good five or so listens all the way through b4 I make a final judgement... I find with BRMC it took me a while to 'get' their stuff but I always ended up loved it after a couple of listens. What do you reckon yourself?
  22. The Black Rebel Motorcycle Club rocking out... Last night I went along to see them and they were brilliant! They rocked hard but even in the flurry of sound they had a bit of a sensitive edge. I had become a bit of a fan of some of their stuff, but they are much better live than on their records, their music really comes alive. They dont really have a front man which was really different but very cool coz everything felt like it melded into one rather than just different instruments. The two guitarists both play guitar and bass and share the vocal duties. Man the way they use the bass is very unconventional it drives the music and the melody. very cool! THey managed to pack out a venue for about 1500 people on a monday nite, which in Adelaide (where I live) is a big deal. Probably the best gig ive been to this year. And the two opening bands were really good too. I'm wasted today but it was worth it. I even bought the t-shirt! :D :D _____________________ The[aussie]Scientist
  23. They are coming to Australia for the Big Day Out! YEAH!!!! I'll be there! :D :D
  24. no dont get me wrong great production and beautiful musicianship ... I guess rough edges is the wrong word, its very agressive and direct, very in your face, and still carries so much of the intensity of the emotion... ...gosh that sentence I just wrote sounds so pretintious it could have come out of Q magazine!!! perhaps its better to say the song is fucking good hey ;)
  25. Nah, I think what Tom is saying is Radiohead have done such fab stuff in the past... and I agree. The b-sides to Street Spirit alone (Talk Show Host, Bishops Robes) and stuff like the Running From Demons EP are worth paying an album price for IMHO. The only HTTT b-sides I liked are the ones from Go To Sleep disc 2, and also the live version of fog on disc 1. but Remixes for 2+2=5? mmm I prefer sumthing new, or at least give us some live tracks. but at least fourtet is bound to give an interesting remix.
