  1. My fav radiohead songs would have to be Street Spirit, Just, Exit Music, No Suprises, Pyramid Song and There There. I got my ticket for their tour in April delivered in the mail the other day ... cant wait!!!! :D :D :D
  2. I thought I heard he used a Jazzmaster Tele as well. Could be wrong though. Telecasters are very nice guitars, Radiohead use a lot of them as well. Hey matt, what do you think of the DS-1 distortion? I bought one second hand the other month and its made a great addition to my sound rig. Its brillinat for adding tone esp low end.
  3. He has a very soulful voice. Even though they get compared to U2 a lot and sometimes their melodies are similar, Chris' vocal delivery is such a contrast to Bono's angsty vocals, Chris voice is reassuring and full of colour and joy even in sadder songs. But at the same time they both have the capacity to communicate different shades of emotion through vocals. Chris' vocals have developed a lot since Parachutes, he is demonstrating a really wide range. Man if I could sing like him you would never be able to stop me :D
  4. I think the thing with bands is to not try and be like anyone but to just let it all flow and try to do something creative. Not that it cant have influences, but that you transcend your influences and create your own identity. Like coldplay, although they have influences from bands like radiohead/u2/bunnyman they do have a definate edge of their own (not as in the guitarist 'the edge' but a metaphorical edge ;) ) Anyway regardless of that diatribe my influences in my guitar playing and singing are U2, Powderfinger, Radiohead and The Strokes, and ive been strongly affected by both the experimental attitude of Pink Floyd as well as Coldplays universalism.
  5. Ive been seeing a fair few local acts recently, a few of them have been pretty good. I get annoyed how lots of people have this 'im too cool to get into the support band' mentality. I mean sure if they are shit then thats fair enough but at least give them ago. There was this great retro sounding rock band in Adelaide called Hummel which I saw supporting another band and they were much better than the band they were supporting. Unfortunately they folded a few months later, so I only got to see them a couple of times. Man they should have kept at it they could have made it!
  6. I havent seen it but will check if it is out in stores down here tomorrow - I hope it is! btw Welcome to the board! I'm Gareth :D :D
  7. Sound very nice! mmm, you havent got a tape of it have you by any chance? If you do you know I really am your friend... :D :wink3: Were the sessions the ones performed at the Sydney Opera house? I heard they were supposed to be really good. Which songs did they play?
  8. Understand what you are saying. I can see both points of view. I know some people who have really been fucked up by drugs and the whole culture of drug taking. I mean it like water isnt inherently bad or anything but you can still drown yourself with it. So for myself personaly, coz Im a pretty addictive personality, ive just made the decision to stay away from drugs altogether just so I avoid getting myself in a mess. But yeah I certainly think that you shouldnt bag something just because of socially constructed bias, and like you said cigarettes do far more damage and no one send you to jail for farming tobacco.
  9.   very wise
  10. Have heard a few of their songs Ive liked what I hear. I am always in awe of a band theat sounds great with just one guitar. One of my friends is really into them. What is their recent album like?
  11. You got to meet Travis hey? nice stuff. Where did you meet them? Ok people from bands I would really like to meet... Bono - would talk at great length about the fly shades and the existance of God Chris Martin - definately one of the greatest singers of the last decade Jonny Greenwood - I would like to find out how he gets some of those sounds out of his guitar, and to ask if I could borrow his effects rig for a day or two The guys from powderfinger - to see if they really are the down to earth aussie blokes they seem to be Any of the four girls from the Donnas - a private meeting for obvious reasons :wink3:
  12. If a band isnt playing it isnt worth going out :D
  13. Where the streets have no name - U2
  14. No I didnt but I wish I did coz 2 of my fav bands were playing! I had a friend who did, I was green with envy :( But I am seeing radiohead next april when they play in melbourne so that makes everything alright :D
  15. No I understand it and all, i mean Ive studied some english literature at uni so Im no stranger to analysis. I just didnt like it. I thought they could have done a lot more with the storyline. And the character dialogue was much weaker. But thats just me, you may reserve the right to think my opinion worthless :D
  16. God, what the hell is he talking about? Somehow the writer obviously is ignorant to the fact that Radiohead have hardly been a failure since their transformation with kid a. Secondly if bands 'stick to what they are good at' they just die away. They have to grow and evolve in order to stay relevant, interesting and exciting. I mean where would u2 be if they 'stuck to what they were good at?' Coldplay need to go to the places where they feel they should go no matter what any industry paid critics will tell us. Ok, end of rant :P
  17. I know, arent we lovely :D
  18. can you pay to fly me over? that would be great :D Btw who are Barfly? What kind of music do they play?
  19. The first one is brilliant but personally I thought the second one sucked big time. Not that it was a terrible action movie, but I thought they just lost the plot with the characters and the storyline. But I will see the third one just so I can bag it if it is no good ;)
  20. Hey welcome aboard Im Gareth Have fun :D
  21. coldplay are massive over here so people will probably go out and buy it anyway. also they toured a couple of months ago when they came down for splendor in the grass.
  22. Perhaps it would be more fun to have the most ridiculous band... Britney Spears on horrible poppy lead vocals Thom Yorke doing whiney backing vocals and off time piano James Hetfield playing mind numming metal riffs on guitar Badly Drawn Boy strumming his acoustic guitar Flea playing crazy slap bass and a drum machine :D Now I THAT I would like to hear :P
  23. They made a THIRD one??? :o :stunned: :snore: :D
  24. okay so do we actually know if they are planning to release another single soon?? :o I would have thought theyd wait a bit longer. The Scientist only just got released down here in Australia last week.
