  1. The Clash - London Calling
  2. Its a brilliant song, a real example of a song that really progresses in stages until it reaches a resolution. Such emotion gets bashed into it, and yeah I really like the rough edges about it. :) As to what it all means... I guess its about opening our eyes to what is happening, and sorta almost praying for a solution to it all. I guess you can interpret the last refrain 'give me love over this' in two ways ... either Chris wants love personally to come and make the worlds politics and problems seem insignificant for him, or for love to be a force that makes the problems solvable. Anyway its a great song :D :D
  3. The b-sides from the Go to Sleep Disc 2 are fantastic. Gagging Order is this really stripped back acoustic guitar piece, while Wicked Child has this dirty guitar riff and even a Jonny harmonica solo! it sounds like it could have 'almost' been a b-side to something from the Bends or OK Computer... well almost!
  4. Here is a pointless rant about how good coldplays lovesongs are... I hate most poppy lovesongs. Yuk. Yet I absolutely love coldplay's songs despite the fact that most of their songs are something to do with love. They make such simple love songs so brilliant without making them syrupy, cliched and gross. I mean their songs are incurably romantic, use choruses like 'you know I love you so' and stuff like that, but somehow they manage to stay cool and real and avoid sounding cliched. Its funny tho coz if I had read their lyrics for some of their songs I would have fully thought they were just another commercialised band, but when you hear the brilliant music, and how the lyrics and Chris' melody works with the music, it all just comes alive. Its like the song moses ... Like moses has power over sea, so you have a power over me' ... so simple but the metaphor is brilliant and works so well! :D __________________ The[aussie]Scientist

  6. Yessssss a very cool tune.   I will be buying it no doubt about it! I like the guitar breakdown just before thoms last rant... and the lyrics 'we're going to the king and the sky is falling in' ... lovely :D

  9. Me and a friend are a jamming and songwriting duo trying to start a band. We need a drummer and bassist ... got one drummer interested tho so we'll have a jam with him soon. I sing and play guitar (and started playing piano again recently - thanks to Chris Martin for the inspiration ;) ). I find that its stacks easier to do our own material than covers. Covers mean you actually have to impress people with a rendition of something they already know, with your own stuff you sound like can mess around a bit and have fun, and impress people with something new... well hopefully anyway.
  10. I like Interpol. Havent got their album tho... it is on my 'to buy' list! ;)

  13. They are made up of ex'At the Drive In' members. I have only heard a few of their songs which I liked... one of my friends is a mad fan but their taste in music does not always synchronise with mine so Id have to give them a good listen ;) The track on Coldplayer is pretty cool. ___________________ The[aussie]Scientist ...give me one cuz one is best...
  14. In some ways its very indie that its amazing that the record company didnt kick a fuss about such minimalist cover art. I like it! :P __________________ The[aussie]Scientist ...give me one cuz one is best...
  15. Yeah the White Stripes are overrated even though they arent bad. So are Oasis even though they are bad. And the Foo Fighters are talked about way too much for my liking (even though Dave Grohl is 'cool as school' as Martin would say ;) ) And the Vines ... well dont get me started on that 'band' if you could call it that! But Radiohead? Nah they are brilliant!!! :P Just talk to obsessive fans like me ... I neeeeever exaggerate how good they are *cough* *cough* *cough* Actually there is an article I found about radiohead haters... http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/7638.htm ... very funny:lol: _______________ The[aussie]Scientist ...give me one cuz one is best...

  20. The[aussie]Scientist replied to a post in a topic in Coldplay
Its hard to talk about who is better coz its all subjective, but broadly speaking I think Radiohead are a more creative group and probably clock more hours in my stereo than any other band. They have written some brilliant songs, are able to constantly reinvent their sound, and, at least for me are able to connect with me on a deeper level than most music. I dont think radiohead is going to float everyones boat, but they do it for me. Having said that I feel like Coldplay are a breath to fresh air a music scene that has in the past tended to see uplifiting and heartwarming songs as somehow lesser than the seriousness of a band like Radiohead. Chris has a really soulful, warm voice, and the band are like a flash of colour on a grey canvas (to be artsy  ) yet they dont fall into the trap of being cliched or bland. Also Coldplay have not been around for long at all compared to radiohead. Give them time, since Rush of Blood was aready a brilliant album who knows what material they will be capable of in 5 years :)
  21. Hey I like feeder! :D Comfort in sound is a great album. Fav songs from it would be the JTWIF, Child In You, Come Back Around, Summer's Gone and the title track. Havent heard much else of them though. What is the rest of their back catalogue like? _________________ The[aussie]Scientist

  23. Idlewild - The Remote Part Muse - Origin of S U2 - Pop Delirious - Mezzamorphis Speedstar - Bruises You Can Touch _________________ The[aussie]Scientist
  24. IMHO Bono is god incarnate.... or pretty close to it anyway I reckon that Coldplay really do have the chance to be the next U2, the band with universal appeal who are hard to hate and easy to love and stay around forever making records and living happily ever after ... All that Chris needs is a pair shades  a giant lemon and an audience with the pope! Um yeah or something like that! :D
  25. Oh thats nice a fellow cricket hater! Well you will always have a friend in me! ;) Yeah nice chatting 2 ya as well! have a nice weekend hey :D
