i don't feel too negative anymore. i just posted four or five messages in the thread Thom started last night, and it's turning into a thom vs. carla thing ... ... but i realized that I'm capable of typing about issues, being honest, and not feeling bad afterwards.

I think it's because the bigger issues here are that Thom is embodying a view many people agree with while others now want to defend Carla. In that way, we are chosing to be involved and it's not just a Thom/Carla issue. But I think we should just try to discuss it as calmly as possible, remembering love and reason will always win, given the chance.

Eric has done lower things. But Eric recognized those things have been done and avoids a.) repeating the mistakes, and b.) perpetuating the problems. There is a level of humility there which I respect. Eric is young and will make mistakes. I try to understand that just as I try to understand I will always make mistakes. I just hope to not make the same mistakes twice. Back to my second sentence above, Eric is showing intraspection, and I think that Carla needs to look at herself a little bit and say "How important is it to me to keep doing these things which are inspiring such discussion?" If those things are very important to her, then she will elect to keep doing them and, implicitly, elect to continue to see periods where people's frustrations boil over. If she decides to say "even a those is a minority of people, I need to consider that I'm inhibiting a number of people's fun on the board," then I think the board will be a more enjoyable place for her and her detacters. An additional note added five minutes later: It's easy to say turn the other cheek, especially because Carla is getting her feelings hurt. Although it may seem the opposite, I am not oblivious to that. I don't want Carla to be hurt or feel like this isn't a place where she can feel welcome. But how long do we go without talking about this? People are PM'ing each other, PM'ing Ian, posting passive polls, posting aggressive polls. Can't we talk about it?

However, it's a fact that Carla dimishes the fun for a lot people. That's an issue that people seem to want to discuss. I know that Thom has tried to talk to Carla in a very direct, kind way, and he didn't get a favorable response. This thread is meant to be tongue and cheek, but I can see why people are offended. Let's take that into account, but let's also recognize that Carla's behaviors are inspiring this kind of reaction in not just Thom. I am defending Thom because I think that discussion deserves some time.

Hey fifi, I'm not down with people calling Thom "fuckin' mean!" This thread is half joke, half message. I don't think it's half as bad as some of the crap that goes on around here, and Thom, being a generally nice and amiable guy, a good contributor and a friend to a lot of us, deserves the benefit of doubt. In actuality, Thom has been trying to get Carla to be a little more considerate of some people's views. He has tried to be kind and direct and it hasn't worked. This thread is tongue-and-cheek, but I think Carla bring it on herself. Just my view. Richard
