Random Coldplay thoughts...
The Amount of time between Yellow and Viva La Vida is the same amount of time between Viva La Vida and now. Whoa.
-
Random Coldplay thoughts...
Come to think of it, it kind of reminds of of Ink in a way. I record a "fuller version" on my keyboard if I can, with instruments that sounded more like the song.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
I could do that tomorrow after work. I'll give it a try.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
Had a dream last night hat Coldplay released this HUGE new single. It had the rhythm of ASFOS, and sounded kind of like Charlie Brown with no electric guitars, only acoustic ones, plus bass & drums. The music video took place in this jungle-type environment, that was at the top of a mountain, looking down on a city. Except it was like right on top of the city, like an overpass. It reminded me of the MX commercials I used to see on TV in some way. So the band had this jungle kind of theme going for the album, and the music video kept being played as an advertisement for the Super Bowl halftime show. Anyway, when I got home form work today, I managed to remember, and play, the song in the dream (on piano).

Should Coldplay use backing tracks?
I would love to see Chris play the guitar (like we saw in that crowd video from the music video shoot) or piano in A Sky Full Of Stars. He could play piano on Magic, too. This is a little bit off-topic... ....but, while their concerts are tremendously awesome, I feel like they are too "produced." I don't mind the lasers, fireworks or whatever, but i would love to see some improvisation musically. When Jonny has a solo, I want him to play something new, on-the-spot every night, not the exact guitar solo we hear on the album version.

Criticisms with the album?
I remember seeing a video of Gwyneth being interviewed on Oprah (talking about "The Nappies" of all things). She was talking about Chris' songwriting being very abstract, not "I woke up and made eggs for breakfast this morning" type of lyrics. I think this got taken to another level in VLV and MX's songs. While I like all the songs a lot after a second listen through, some of the lyrics just seem too "ordinary"? I don't know if that's the right word or not. Especially the lyrics in Another's Arms / Ink. I always imagined Chris Martin's songwriting "universe" for the lack of a better term didn't have lines like "late night watching TV' or songs about getting tattoos. They're just not as abstract as usual. It's not a bad thing per se, but its going to take some getting used to.

[11-Mar-2014] Coldplay @ iTunes Festival, ACL Moody Theatre, Austin, Texas, USA
Wait a minute, I thought the performances from the concert were going to be on iTunes for at least a few weeks? What the hell happened to Coldplay's performance? I didn't stay up (until a stupid time for me to stay up with work in the morning) to watch because I was under the impression that this would be available when I got home from work today. The two other performances from last night were, but Coldplay/iTunes won't make it available.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
After this Glasto thing, I'll probably be done. If Coldplay releases about 2 or 3 more albums with songs/b-sides that could fit into three categories, I'd revisit this. I want enough material to get some good album names, workable art, and sound categories. But nothing immediately.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
Friday, June 28, 2013. Coldplay's set at Glastonbury's Friday Night Headlining slot, was exactly as most expected: all the hits. The band played every one of their singles, including a surprise performance of 'Christmas Lights.' Jay-Z joined the band on stage for 'Lost+', and Rihanna came on for Coldplay's version of 'Princess of China.' The show was loud, and full of energy, even when Til' Kingdom Come, Us Against The World & Princess of China, took their turns on the setlist. In an interview after the show, the band hoped everyone would appreciate their Saturday show saying, "Tomorrow night will be pretty different music-wise; we played all the songs that even the people that hate us the most recognize. Tomorrow's show will be a big thank you to our biggest fans, though it might be a little sloppy. I just hope everyone here [at the festival] isn't tired of us yet, We still have two more days up here." Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
March 27, 2013. After the end of the 2012 Glastonbury festival, Michael Eavis said that tickets would go on sale in October, and that "you'll want to get them as quick as humanly possible." Today, we found out why. Coldplay, who has been touring the past year+ after the release of their final album as a band, will headline ALL THREE WEEKEND DATES AT THE PYRAMID STAGE IN THEIR FINAL LIVE PERFORMANCES AS A BAND TOGETHER. I used all caps because the situation clearly called for it. Initially, the band was kind of against the idea of three straight shows for virtually the same audience. They thought everyone would be sick of them. But Eavis explained how much the band meant to that festival, and would love for them to close their live careers there. The festival has stated that no real time contraints will accompany these slots, as they are the last act each night. Coldplay said they will make each show a little different to give the fans something new every night.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
I've used all of the band's material! However, it doesn't mean the thread is over though, I've got one or two more things to unveil. Maybe I can revisit the thread in about five years when the bands has more songs out haha.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
March 20, 2012 Today is the day, we've been anxiously awaiting, but hoping would never happen. Coldplay is releasing their final abum. As a band. Together. Forever. Postcards From Far Away is a piano based album with ten songs and once again has a Eugene De la Croix painting as the album's cover, and this time another one as the album's back cover. It features some of the band's longest work - For You, Amsterdam & Gravity are all around 6 minutes - and their shortest work - Death Will Never Conquer & the title track are both right around 1 minute each. The band hopes that they will release one final single in late summer early Fall. TOUR SETLIST (PART 2) Hurts LIke Heaven Violet Hill Don't Panic Lost! Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
March 13, 2012 The second to last single from the band Coldplay is being released today. Trouble is a piano-based ballad, the overall theme of the album. It was released with a somewhat familiar b-side, a piano-only rendition of 'Yellow' from Life In Technicolor.

November 22, 2011 The third single off of Us Against The World was released today. "'Til Kingdom Come" features the song Green Eyes as a b-side. The band also announced that they will release their sixth and final album as a band on March 20th, titled Postcards From Far Away, before embarking on a year+ long tour across the world that will take them well into 2013.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
August 16, 2011 Part 1 of the double album that is Coldplay's fifth album was released today. Us Against The World paints a more intimate picture of the band. Most of the songs rely heavily on the use of one or more acoustic guitars and only a few other instruments. Based on previous live performances it's hard to see many of these songs fitting in to setlists on upcoming tours, though naturally, the album's singles will get played in the live setting. Bassist Guy Berryman said the band expects to release on more single off the album, before turning full attention to the second part of the double album, due out in May. The album's artwork is definitely "artsy" as Jonny Buckland said before. The cover itself comes from a painting by Eugene Delacroix, a painter that Chris Martin became interested in after seeing some of his works in an art gallery. Musically, the sound follows that old-fashioned feel of a painting, and despite the somewhat-hectic scene of the album's cover, offers lyrics and song titles of hope and safety (Don't Panic, Parachutes, Help Is Round The Corner, Us Against The World, among others). Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
August 9, 2011 The second single off of Coldplay's album "Us Against The World" was released today....and it's conveniently called Us Against The World. The band said if you listen to the two songs on the album that have been released, you'll be able to find the album's theme / sound. The single was released with an acoustic version of Lovers In Japan, a song whose original version appeared as a b-side on the Hurts Like Heaven single. Here is the single's artwork. The album's artwork and tracklisting remain a secret, and the band won't reveal any music until the album is released, as their tour starts three days after the album drops. They did however drop on hint as to the artwork. Jonny Buckland was quoted saying that the album was "very artsy." So, whatever that means.

See You Soon was originally the title of UATW. It was meant to throw you off, but also as a hint that they'll release an album, then they'll See You Soon, and release another one.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
June 26, 2011 One day after headlining the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, Coldplay announced a title and release date for LP5. August 16th will see the release of Us Against The World, a very, very acoustic album, a softer side of the band that just lit up the stage on Saturday Night. The tracklisting hasn't been released, but we already know the single "Princess Of China", released in April, will appear on the album. It's a safe a guess a song titled "Us Against The World" will also make an appearance. Coldplay didn't reveal much of anything at the Glastonbury show, and they even played the Rihanna version of Princess Of China (and were joined by her on stage, as she headlined the Pyramid Stage on Sunday). But the news didn't stop there. The band will tour a for about 4 or 5 weeks at a time, while taking 2 or 3 week breaks to add the finishing touches to ANOTHER ALBUM. Us Against The World will have a counterpart hopefully released in around May. They are calling it a double album, and will tour for a long while after that. They have not confirmed nor denied the rumor that this is the end of Coldplay. But the rumors are definitely something to look out for. Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
April 5, 2011 Back in December Rihanna was seen leaving the Coldplay studio, sparking all kinds of rumors about what was going on. A few weeks ago "Untitled Coldplay/Rihanna project" appeared on iTunes, with no one knowing if it was an album, EP, single or anything else. Today, we found out. A few things, acutally. Rihanna is releasing a new album in June, called "We Found Love." Coldplay is releasing an album 'this summer' tentatively called "See You Soon" which the band says is more of a hint about future music plans than a title of the album, despite rumors that this is the band's last work together. Appearing on both of those albums will be a collaborative song, titled "Princess of China." That single is being released today, as a "double-single" for the lack of a better term. The song appears in two different versions. One, a more upbeat version with a few more instruments will appear on Rihanna's album. An acoustic version will be appear on Coldplay's new album.

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
December 7, 2010 Coldplay have been in the studio since early October and they're releasing a standalone single, called Christmas Lights. The band emphasizes that the song will not be included on any upcoming album, and Chris Martin, out of nowhere, hinted that this album could be their last as a band. Martin, perhaps jokingly, said that he doesn't believe he can go on stage if his starts to lose his hair, and "at this rate, we might be getting there soon." He added, "I always thought that at 34, that seems like a good place to stop. Yeah, I'm only 33 now but by the time we release this next thing, I'll be at that point. This song itself materialized rather quickly, about three weeks int he studio we finished it, but I find that it's getting harder and harder to write songs that I feel are worthy of being put out to the public."

Coldplay in an Alternate Universe
September 29, 2009 The final single from Coldplay's fourth album, Life In Technicolor, is being released today. 'Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall' is the album's closer, and a fitting end to the album's era, as the it's sixth and final single. The single features 'Rainy Day' as a b-side.
