  1. I'm a big fan of the Live from Spotify cover, so I hope it will be something close to that. It has a similar feel to the artwork of Coldplay's earlier albums (i.e. a plain color background with a single image in the middle)
  2. Best performance as a whole has gotta be Toronto 2006 (How We Saw the World). The energy of that whole show was phenomenal, and that was the peak of Chris's voice imo. Live 2003 is a close second. Honestly, the guys are so good live that you could probably pick darn near any concert they've ever done and be blown away by it. Best individual song performances: Clocks - Toronto 2006 Swallowed in the Sea - Toronto 2006 Politik - Live 2003 ARoBttH - Live 2003 Life in Technicolor ii - Tokyo 2009 Yellow - Live 2012 Paradise - Glastonbury 2016 (as someone who has experienced it twice now, that remix they do on the outro is godlike live) Up&Up - Tidal 2015 The Hardest Part/Postcards from Far Away - LeftRightLeftRightLeft (2009)
  3. ^ Bring back real names like How We Saw the World :P Granted, that was one concert, but still!
  4. I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, but at the Kansas City concert last night Chris announced that they were currently in the process of recording a live album that they plan to release in November. He mentioned it because he told us they wanted to use the KC version of Us Against the World on it :p Anyway--has there been any news of this yet? Am I late to the party or is this as much news to the rest of you as it was to me?
  5. Man, that would have been awesome. Seems like would allow all the really dedicated fans to get to the front row first and make for a stellar atmosphere. Oh well, I think I've managed to nab our group tickets near the C-stage so we should get a nice treat there. I'm still keeping a look out for the roadies though! On another note--we're closing in on t-minus 10 hours until showtime! :D
  6. Not usually a big fan of remixes but this one is pretty good! It helps that Chris really nailed the vocals on this song so it still has some charm even with the original instrumentation changed (and I LOVED the original instrumentation)
  7. *shrugs* It's still "cool" to hate on Coldplay for some reason. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions of course, but it does seem to get a little excessive with certain artists--the obvious example here being Justin Beiber. Not sure what he did in the beginning (if anything) to deserve the vitriol that the Internet in general seemed to throw at him, but boy for awhile there you would have thought he committed the equivalent of a murder or something. For Coldplay somewhere down the line they got stuck with the perception of being "soft" and it never really went away I guess. Too much falsetto, not enough thrashing guitar, etc. etc. Plus there's the whole thing of people seeing them as a discount U2 or Radiohead, at least in their earlier years. My point being, if the general masses still think it's necessary to look down on Coldplay, then the music review sites will reflect that because that's the kind of review that will draw traffic. Just my (slightly biased) two cents
  8. Ugh this is actually kinda hard though because KEP is a really strong compilation 1. A L I E N S 2. AICTAIY 3. Hypnotised 4. SJLT 4. Miracles 2 The last two can switch places honestly. I've warmed up to Miracles 2 though I'm still not too keen on it. For SJLT it depends on if I'm in a poppy mood for the day :P
  9. Exactly! I don't know how to explain this well, but for me listening to Chris sing is just a different experience from listening to any other singer. I love Florence Welch, Bono, Matt Bellamy, Brandon Flowers, etc. etc. but I can only listen to them for so long before I just get fatigued of their voice and I have to turn it off. That has . . . never happened listening to Chris sing, and I don't know why. When Chris's voice is at its best I can listen to it happily for hours and hours. Really, that's probably one of the biggest reasons Coldplay has remained my favorite band for all these years. When Guy, Jonny, and Will are firing on all cylinders and Chris nails the vocal part--there's nothing like it.
  10. I agree with this whole thing lol. I usually don't mind production flaws too much unless they're really bad (aka Up&Up), but despite the bunches of things going on in this song, they're all perfectly audible and able to be followed along if you pay attention no matter what else is going on. One of my favorite things to do with albums after listening through them a few times is focus in on one instrument/aspect in particular--bassline, strings, etc.--and just follow them through each song. With Coldplay, I haven't been able to do that easily since the Viva era except with this song and a handful of others. I also keep a little mental tally of "favorite moments" like short little guitar licks or the way a singer vocalizes a particular line. There were a couple of those moments on this EP--something which, again, hasn't happened for several albums now. For A L I E N S it was when Chris sings the second "Fly if you / Want to / That's alllll-riiiiight" and "All the E.T.s / Are phoning home." Chris seemed sort of stuck in a rut singing-wise for AHFOD, but he's back in fine form for KEP. The ending with the strings reminds me of the Lukas instrumental with the sudden fade-to-echo effect. Love it!
  11. Maybe that's the problem I'm having with this song because honestly this version is probably in my bottom 10 of Coldplay songs. It just sounds so flat and lifeless, and I guess that's because it actually sounds fairly different from the live version we heard first? Something about it just rubs me the wrong way, which is a shame because it is rather different for a Coldplay song and I genuinely like all the other songs on the EP. Maybe I just don't like r&b
  12. Okay quick thoughts now that I've heard the whole thing AICTAIY - Still love the guitar/bassline/drum in this. It's just so beautiful and dark I think I actually prefer the first half of the song over the trademark Big Coldplay Explosion at the end. Solid 8/10 Miracles - ???? I don't know what happened here. This has gotta be one of the weaker songs Coldplay has put out over the past three albums. It just seems kinda . . . flat. Lyrics are rather uninspired, Chris's vocals are weak (especially compared to the songs Miracles 2 is squashed between), and for probably the first time ever Jonny's guitar just doesn't grab me. A lot of us were saying that A L I E N S doesn't sound like a Coldplay song in a good way; well this one doesn't sound like a Coldplay song in a bad way. 2/10 EDIT: Okay, okay, I listened to it a few more times to make sure I didn't have a knee-jerk reaction. Guy's bassline is suitably funky and the beat isn't half bad. Still not a fan of the lyrics/chorus though. New assessment is a 5/10 A L I E N S - This is still the best song on the EP (I will fight anyone on this :p ). And it sounds even better sandwiched between my two least favorite songs on the EP lolololol. One of their best songs since the Viva era, 10/10 SJLT - I unashamedly like this song anyway, so I especially love the extra energy kick in the live version (but then crowd noise gets me hype and I'm a sucker for echo effects on guitars, so *shrug emoticon*). Will definitely be dancing to this at the KC show in August. 7/10 Hypnotised EP Mix - Oh snap I was not expecting the extension to come at the beginning of the song. It has a music-boxy feel that I really like. The guys really know how to write a closer. 7.5/10 --- "First" listen score: 7/10 - Best major compilation since Prospekt's March in 2009
  13. Yeah. There's been a couple times when I was watching some British show or another and they address the Queen as "ma'am" but it sounded like "mom" and I was like, "You guys call your Queen mom?" :P Just a different pronunciation that's developed (probably on the American English side). Similar to "al-oo-min-um" versus "al-oo-min-ee-um"
  14. Wait, did it not get shifted back to Sunday? I remember talking about it in the KEP thread, and I was one of the ones who got an email from iTunes. But @coldplaykb is right that it wouldn't make any sense to release the last song tomorrow and the full EP two days later . . . I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON
  15. https://planetradio.co.uk/city/entertainment/music/everything-need-know-coldplay-brand-new-single/ ???? They have the drop date wrong for the EP, but they say they'll be playing Miracles 2 at 8:30 a.m. on Friday I know nothing about Planet Radio--are they reputable?
  16. I do like Mylo Xyloto and A Hopeful Transmission, but why in the world couldn't they have just made MMIX an extended intro for ETiaW?
  17. I guess it depends on what you mean by "space related songs" lol. Here's my top four: 1. White Shadows 2. A L I E N S 3. Talk 4. Moving to Mars
  18. ^ Man, that's such a dumb rule :p An album should be as long or short as it needs to be! It worked well for Viva, but it was incredibly annoying seeing the MX tracklisting with 14 songs on it but having four of them be less than three minutes long (and three of those being instrumental tracks, at that lol)
  19. ^ As long as they continue to release one song a month until the album drops, I'm okay with this
  20. Oh man, I know we all tend to jump the gun a little on trying to say "this song is actually X song that we've known about for years," particularly for the unreleased MX songs, but I think you're absolutely right. I'd forgotten all about Alien Radio. If it's true, I wish they'd kept the old title. Loved that title :p
  21. So they're delaying the release of a digital EP? What? Are we ever getting this EP? :joy:
  22. Damn, it's been six years since MX. That's a weird feeling. I remember sitting on the stairs ignoring my mom's call to dinner as I listened to it the first time through  I'm trying to restrain myself on listening to this so I don't burn out of it before the EP drops . . . it's been very difficult. The only good news is that now I'm not listening to AICTAIY on repeat anymore lol
  23. It's all good, lol As someone who isn't much a fan of the Beatles (*gasp* I know, burn the witch), I wouldn't know either way! That would be a cool way to end the last album when it comes though
  24. Don't do this to me :sob:
