  1. I would pay an embarrassing amount of money for something like that
  2. Oh snap, this thread was a nostalgia trip with a bunch of names I haven't seen in forever :joy:
  3. A Spell A Rebel Yell came on my Spotify shuffle yesterday and boy, what a unique song! As much as I love the Viva era, I'd somehow forgotten that song existed and I hadn't heard it in ages. It's synth-y and very ethereal at the same time, and the lyrics are simple yet poignant. I almost feel like Ghost Stories could have ended up with a sound similar to this . . . I had to hit repeat a couple of times
  4. This was before my time, but from what I've heard from other users (a lot of whom have since moved on), Coldplaying had its heyday around the X&Y-Viva era, which makes sense as that was when message boards like this were the most popular. Heck, I joined Coldplaying back when I was 14 or 15 and posted all the time. Now I'm almost 22 and I'll go weeks without even so much as visiting the forums. Part of that is that their new material just doesn't enthuse me as much as it used to, part of that is that I have many more responsibilities now. All those people who were teenagers back in the forum's heyday are, as you said, likely in their 20s and 30s now. There are a lot of factors, really. It's kind of sad though. Even when I joined in late 2010 the forums were still pretty active, and I made a lot of friends and memories on here. That atmosphere, like Coldplay's original music style, will never come back, but we can still enjoy what we have left as something that ties us back to the "good old days."
  5. I am completely unashamed to admit that Chris from the ARoBttH thru Viva eras was one of the most attractive men I'd ever seen :D Those curls . . . I don't dig his post-MX look as much. The curls are gone! And I dig the lithe look more than the huge biceps. Not that my opinion matters one bit :p As far as music goes, I've never had a band even get close to mesmerizing me as much as first-four-albums Coldplay did, so I'll continue to give them chances until they eventually disband. Sure, I'd love to have full albums speak to me as much as the first four did, but I'm happy to settle with the occasional flash of brilliance such as A L I E N S, Moving to Mars, Ghost Story, All Your Friends, Midnight, Hypnotised, etc. etc. Even as they are now, there isn't any other band which can quite nail that sound that's just perfect for me.
  6. ^ Could also be that Chris announced something too early (again) :p

Holy Mountain definitely didn't sound like I expected it to, but I love it! I'm hoping for at least one "normal" Noel song on this album though--his first two solo efforts were phenomenal!
  8. To add to I Ran Away's post, it's been reported that in the later stages, the album was constructed as a sort of response to the 9/11 events. "Politik" in particular was supposedly written in the week following 9/11 and is based on Chris's realization of his own mortality. I'm not sure to what extent the inclusion of other songs were affected, but "Politik" certainly was. As for the "sounding like Parachutes" comment, part of that, as I recall, was the band's desire to prove that they weren't "bed-wetters" or something along those lines. Parachutes as a whole was pretty soft and calming, so the natural response to the naysayers was to give their next album teeth. Hence, the choice to include a loud and brash opening with Politik, the guitars on GPaSUYF, etc. "Animals" was the last song to get axed, as I believe it was swapped out for Clocks once the latter was written. There are couple of other song titles out there floating around that we don't know much about, so it's hard to say whether they were ever in real contention for a spot on the album. "Deserter" is one of those.
  9. Wow, Jonny and Will went nuts on this one. In fact, the instrumentation as a whole on this one is top-notch! I'll echo others' sentiments in that the lyrics could use a little cleaning up, but that being said, this is a charity song, so I'm not expecting Politik-level wordsmithing! It works just fine for what it is. Sounds like they spliced together Charlie Brown and Don Quixote lol Assuming we get a studio version, I'll definitely be buying it
  10. ^ That first song you listed was actually the first thing that came to my mind when I heard they would be debuting a new song. I'm crossing my fingers that's the case--it has a lovely Viva-ish feel that I absolutely adore  Of course, any new Coldplay song is a good thing, but that would be the best case scenario lol
  11. A Coldplayer can dream  Ghost Stories is probably my least listened-to album of theirs, but I put on the live CD on my drive back home late last night and it was perfect. I'd love more songs like Oceans, Don't Panic, Parachutes, We Never Change, O, etc. I'm skeptical as to whether this new song will be on the live album as well (especially since the album is supposedly being released next month?), but it would be a nice addition!
  12. Okay people, bets for whether this new song getting debuted on the 8th will be on the live album? http://coldplay.com/coldplay-to-debut-new-song-for-estamos-unidos-mexicanos-concert/
  13. For the KC show he stopped Charlie Brown during the intro and told everyone to put their cellphones away so it would be nothing but xylobands in the audience. Don't know if it was related to the DVD or if the KC crowd was just being particularly obnoxious lol I'm counting on our version of UAtW being on the DVD at least. You promised us, Chris! :p
  14. Stranger Things! If you like the '80s and Stephen King novels then you'll love this show. It's really interesting and well put-together. A lot of people I know binge-watched it in one sitting. Plus the second season comes out on October 27!
  15. Did we ever learn why the X&Y DVD wasn't released? I remember reading about the sound issues on the Viva tour, but Toronto 2006 is far and away my favorite live show of all time and other than something major happening behind the scenes, I don't see why it wasn't released eventually.
  16. Somehow the fact that SJLT is on KEP slipped my mind  I'm not surprised that A L I E N S is the one out of all of them that hasn't been played. It's one of my favorite songs from the last three eras, but it doesn't seem like the type of song that the guys would option to play live. It's just weird enough (similar to Twisted Logic and Rainy Day)
  17. ^ Have the guys actually played any of the KEP songs live yet? I was expecting to hear Hypnotised in Kansas City since the pre-show video told us to download the app, but it never made an appearance
  18. Only 10? Man this is torture Death and All His Friends Swallowed in the Sea White Shadows A Rush of Blood to the Head Strawberry Swing Yes Bloodless Revolution A L I E N S Gravity Life in Technicolor ii
  19. ^ I've been lurking in the mystery song / soundcheck thread and there are some gorgeous songs being played behind the scenes. Maybe one day when the guys are old and gray and retired, they'll throw all the old Coldplayers a bone and give us an Unreleased Compilation :joy:
  20. Definitely check it out on the link I Ran Away sent! It's got a gorgeous rendition of The Hardest Part/Postcards from Far Away. You wouldn't think those two songs would work together, but they do :joy: Speaking of Live 2003, does anyone else miss the fact that the guys used to play the occasional unreleased studio song on tour? I suppose it's because they have so many hits now that it's hard to cram anything else into the 1.5-2 hour time slot, but I would love another live-only track like Moses!
  21. Oh snap that latest soundcheck song sounds glorious It was a mistake to come into this thread :cold_sweat:
  22. Dear, dear ARoBttH, if not for Viva, you would be my favorite album of all time! Clocks especially will always hold a special place in my heart as the song that introduced me to Coldplay. I remember making my mom rewind it whenever it played so I could listen to it 3-4 more times :) It's a true timeless album. I imagine I'll still be listening to it 50 years from now!
  23. I'm interested in this also. Both shows I've gone to I've kept my eyes peeled for roadies, but no luck so far! Apparently the people who have gotten upgraded seats were just approached by the roadies and asked if they wanted better seats. I have yet to figure out how to appear more enthusiastic/excited/Coldplay-loving in order to attract them though :joy: Side note: at the KC concert, I met a girl with a homemade elephant costume. She popped up in the front row during the show. I don't know if she had those seats already, but I imagine that would catch a roadie's eye if you have the time/means to do something like that!
