Okay so new question: Back at the beginning of March, a video of a soundcheck surfaced that had audio from a song that we assumed would be on the EP. It really sounded like something from the Viva era--a mixture of Strawberry Swing and Cemeteries of London. At the time I think we all thought it could be A L I E N S, but the two songs are clearly different. Sooo . . . has this mystery song fallen by the wayside? Did it get cannibalized and remixed into A L I E N S? Is it going to be a hidden track? Will yet another beautiful song be left to languish forever as a snippet of half-recorded live audio? Here's the video in question, from page 43 of the Kaleidoscope EP thread:

For that lyric, I interpreted it as saying that all these really trivial matters (like what the Kardashians are doing, what some dumb politician said without thinking, Justin Bieber getting a girlfriend, etc. etc.) are the ones that are being reported on. Meanwhile, events that really matter like the refugee crisis are sort of glossed over and forgotten. So, all the bright and shiny "pop culture" diamonds are reported on endlessly, cannibalizing the airspace and leaving no room for anything else. *shrugs* Maybe you guys interpret it differently, but I quite like it as a lyric!

It's so weird to see a song that seems to be unanimously liked by everyone on the forums (at least so far) :P For some reason the guys don't seem to release very many songs with weird time signatures, which is unfortunate as they're usually pretty interesting! Yes and Glass of Water come to mind

^ If I'm remembering correctly, the opening line from Violet Hill has actually been around since before the Parachutes era, so the guys have done this with other songs as well

I'm perfectly happy with them releasing old Viva b-sides :P Especially if they sound like this!

Holy cow this is so weird but so so so so so good ahhhhhh I love every single freaking thing about this. Every bit of instrumentation is spot-on (GUY'S BASS <3 ) and Chris's voice is absolutely gorgeous. Love when he uses his lower registers a bit. The strings at the end. The backing vocals from Rik and Brian. It sounds like they took all the synth-y stuff from X&Y, put in a dash of color from the MX era and blended it altogether with a heap of experimental Viva goodness. I checked the timestamp halfway through the song because I was so scared it was about to end and I wasn't wanting it to! I haven't given any song a 10/10 since the Viva era, but boy does this song come darn close MORE BRIAN ENO COLLABS PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD

Oh man, I forgot radio releases were a thing. I remember waking up super early to catch ETiaW during the MX era :joy: Anyway--I haven't heard anything about a radio release, so I think we can assume a midnight drop

Love Jonny's guitar part, as always. Surprisingly, I don't mind Big Sean's part either. For "rap vocals" they aren't bad, though who knows what he's saying lol I feel like A L I E N S is gonna be the song where they really knock it out of the park, though. KEP is shaping up to be really solid overall

I actually hope they don't release anything else until the full EP. At this point with most of the songs released already what we'll be getting in July is basically a single with a b-side :P Leak the whole EP or nothing! :joy:

I agree about the mix. It sounds like they were going for a "live" sound rather than a super clean studio recording and I absolutely love it. The reverb and "space" in this song is just awesome, and if some of the finer elements get drowned out at the end that just adds to the live feeling. It's like a darker Glass of Water crossed with Atlas and a pinch of X&Y soundscaping thrown in

I was thinking more the opposite. The version we have right now I would consider the "single" Whatever it is, we already have a version that's really good, so I don't really mind however they decide to change it (if they're changing it at all)

"We were just about to lose our home Air raids/diamonds the radio Moving in the dead of night" ? Looks more like "diamonds," though "air raids" seems like it would make more sense

^ Yeah, I literally have no idea what to expect on Miracles . . . I'm imagining something similar to Lost+ but that came out almost 10 years ago, so who knows? You would think they would have opted to release that as the second single rather than Hypnotised with a collab like that. Worst case scenario, it's some weird hip-hop thing with more Big Sean and less Coldplay . . . and best case scenario I have no clue :joy:

AICTAIY is a banger. Love it. Want more of it. Give it to me now. Hyped for A L I E N S Curious to see what the EP remix for Hypnotised and Miracles sounds like. Not a fan of rap (I literally have one rap song in my library lololol) but I don't mind Lost+ so we'll see how this goes. Also dang, we have a whole month to wait for the EP now
