Is this Rick Simpson mix version of AOAL that has just been posted on that site legit? it has very present drums; apart from some mixing things, I don't hear any difference to the released version...

Beautiful song… interesting to see how it evolved since the pre-Mylo version (wedding album era) that can be found as a video on youtube… i prefer this newer version here. What’s also noteworthy in my opinion is that it has the same intro (bell kind of sounds and ambient guitar sounds) as Everyday Life has. But in a different pitch.

A little remark for the German lyrics in Robot: I’m a native German speaker, and as far as I can hear, Chris sings « Hier leben wir in einem Roboterregal », which would translate as « Here we live in a robot shelve ». Doesn’t really make too much sense, but definitely more than « Hier leben wir ein einer Roboter-Regel » - which doesnt work neither logically from a content point of view nor grammatically. Maybe what Chris actually meant to say was « Here we live under the rule of robots (« under a robot rule ») »… whilst rule can be translated with « Regel » (e.g. the rules of a game), it doesnt work here. Rule in the sense here would be translated with either « Gesetz » (hier leben wir UNTER einem Robotergesetz) or « Herrschaft » (hier leben wir in einer Robotor-Herrschaft)

It really is such a bummer they sacrificed this guitar riff to Fun later. You can really hear shine through this typical MX vibe... Being too close to other MX songs (CB, HLH, ETIAW) as far as the vibe goes might also have been the reason why it got discarded... Tomorrow is a lot better than Fun; even tho I think the latter isn't too bad either...

I could see this one fit into this musical project thing. And it shares some resemblances with Champion of the World; hence why it might have been excluded from EL.

What do you think about my theory that Royalty, Blessed and Weirdo will all be part of the musical project? They've just got such a musical-esque vibe to them in my opinion...

The „olé olé-olé olé“ part of this song was actually already used live during the Headfull of Dreams tour as an intro to a song … I don‘t remember if it was ETIAW or Viva… And the chord progression that starts about in the middle of the song reminds me a lot of Don‘t Let It Break Your Heart… Atually there was an instrumental „version“ of DLIBYH on either the documentary or the mylo xyloto live dvd thats sounds very similar to this second half of the song… very Hopskin-esque in any case…

Interesting what you can hear besides Johnny's Guitar on this track... Is this from the live Brits recording? If so, hearing this snippet of just a couple of high notes of Chris would mean that his singing performance isn't entirely live, but either backing track at some critical points (high notes) as this, or at least doubled by backing track

How could it possibly not have been a great song - i mean, it’s the 4th (real) track (without counting Sunrise as an interlude), standing in a tradition of Scientist, Fix You, True Love, Everglow each being the 4th track and all very beautifully made.

Having listened through all of the songs several times and reading through the lyrics on genius I have evidence to believe that this whole album thematically is strongly about christian faith - which CM might be rediscovering (since he seems to have roots in it from his childhood) Songs like « when i need a friend », « broken », « daddy », « church », « old friend » and « everyday life » all point into this direction lyric wise. What do you think?

I think the old friend is his christian faith that he grew up with as a kid - which he / as other lyrics on the album suggest / seems to be rediscovering somehow To me, this whole album seems like a second « jesus is king » album
