If a single is released after an album comes out, it's generally taken from the album. The main purpose of releasing a single is for radio play.

I like to alternate waiting/breaking down for albums to come out. If it's the first album I'm waiting for ever since starting to listen to that artist, I will download the leak. If I've already waited for an album to come out, I'll hold off on listening to anything at all until the release date. :)

This is easy, actually. In waiting for The Suburbs, we got little to no updates at all, no pro-shot recordings, Suburbs/Month Of May just kinda fell out of the sky two months prior... it wasn't pretty. :(
