+1. Viva's their best album. Ambitious, lushly textured and fantastic songwriting throughout.

Oasis vs. Blur
You were, I said so in the last post. Let's just drop it now.

Oasis vs. Blur
I get that, and when I say chart music, obviously I don't mean everything. I don't think that if something's number 1 it's obviously a pile of shit, it was more an attack on the likes of Flo Rida, will.i.am and the like, who I doubt I'll ever look back on with rose-tinted glasses. They weren't even my words, I was quoting a friend. But I'm pretty sure he agrees with me. No one's antagonising me, don't worry. Just it's a bit irritating when I'm clearly being patronised, for whatever reason, and then being told to have respect for people. Trying to be nice to all sides, here.

Oasis vs. Blur
I have no problem with your opinion, Brent. I have no problem with anyone's opinion on this forum, and I don't see why this is an issue that has to be raised, because frankly, I don't think I need my respect for people questioned. If someone has a problem with me, they should raise it, as someone did the other day. I apologised, for any offence caused, but stuck to my opinion, and the guy stuck to his. "Just cause you're offended, doesn't mean you're right." My comment was written to suggest that perhaps you are just as irrelevant as them. Maybe you haven't seen how people see you, yet; perhaps you piss people off. Perhaps some people see you as a troll, and not a paragon of fine music taste or a beacon of strength in your beliefs. And that's not my opinion. My opinion is that you're well-informed. Funny at times. Hell, lots of times. It's my opinion that you're one of the more intellectual people on this forum. You know it. It's also my opinion that both bands changed the musical landscape of my country for better, and I'm proud of that. It's my opinion that Blur and Oasis should be celebrated, because why should something be overrated when it meant so, so much, to so, so many? But hey, when did my opinion matter or mean something? Because when you say things like "Prove me wrong", "Be witty or something", tell me what my job is, tell me I should have respect for people... that doesn't feel good. That's condescending, patronising, as if I'm less than you, or you're a higher authority than me. Have your opinion, and stay true to it. Just... don't talk down to me, please.

Doctor Who ???......
In the last series he spent about two hundred years running away from his destiny and in the end, he just faced it. The Ponds' life sans Doctor will hopefully be explained fully next week. There'll also be a cameo from a certain Lord Sugar...

Doctor Who ???......
Anyone see last night's episode? Anyone catch the theme of the flickering lights? (Street light in Mercy, Brian fixing the light in the Pond house) What about the recurring theme of the Christmas list? And the spaceship looked like an egg, which we've seen mentioned before.

Oasis vs. Blur
Yet you haven't taken into consideration the purpose of their comments, which was perhaps to highlight how patronising your posts can be (especially this one). Your comment was just as irrelevant, as the idea of overrating, underrating or the like was not part of the question; it adds no new dimension to the original question. Some might say (ha, ha) that your comment was simply to stir, troll or be difficult.

Oasis vs. Blur
My friend's point was not so much about the music, I feel, but the fans. Why be a fan of chart music today when there are such great bands out there? Why divide up the fans of Britpop when we can unite together and show people how good Blur and Oasis both are? I've said it before, I'll say it again, music is not about division, it's about unification, inclusion, and this thread and the britpop war certainly go against my musical beliefs. :\

I'd like to see this, but I'm not sure about a whole album in that direction. It's not very... them. :\

The Blur Thread
That's why Radiohead are the greatest ever. They released the best trilogy of the lot :)

Oasis vs. Blur
Which is, ironically, why Blur are more like the Beatles :P But it's funny that the one album Oasis did vary styles, Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, is regarded by some as one of the worst of all time.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Why don't they reinvent it on a couple of acoustics or something?

I agree that it's pretty boring live. But I also agree that it's beautiful.

Oasis vs. Blur
I just want to quote a friend of mine who's the biggest Oasis fan I know (he named every single track from all seven albums plus the Masterplan, in under ten minutes last week.) "Why Blur Vs Oasis? Why not good music Vs the crap we have in the charts these days?"

Martha Wainwright. Either way, have we not had enough of acoustic Coldplay? I personally would rather see them move into totally uncharted territory.

The Blur Thread
I would use the exact Coldplay analogy you did, and actually, Oasis had the same problem. Blur, Oasis and Coldplay all released a trilogy and each respective album has its similarities... Modern Life Is Rubbish/Definitely Maybe/Parachutes: Establishes sound Parklife/What's The Story (Morning Glory?)/A Rush of Blood: Builds on sound The Great Escape/Be Here Now/X&Y: Pushes the boundaries of the sound I read an interesting review this week actually on the XX's new, and second, record Coexist. The reviewer claimed that the band had built a world on the first album and earned the right to live in it on album two. However doing a third album of the same thing would be pushing it. Sums it up, really. The second album of a certain style is the one in which a band is probably most comfortable.

Glastonbury 2013
Don't think they have. It would be awesome if Radiohead returned, but would they be right? Eavis is charging £215, and I'm not sure TKOL-era 'Head really justifies that, especially after the fallow year... he surely has to book big name mainstream pleasers all round.

Glastonbury 2013
Not to headline. Subheadline, maybe. Or the Other Stage perhaps, if someone like Gaga was on the Pyramid Stage? But Franz would be quality. That's just what I've heard. They're reforming, would certainly fit the "legend" status of Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, etc. Personally, I'd love it, I was brought up with them. (Their music, not actually in a house with Stevie Nicks, although that would've been cool.)

Glastonbury 2013
I think we can safely say Coldplay won't be there. I would say any of the following: Arcade Fire Fleetwood Mac Radiohead Mumford and Sons Arctic Monkeys Lady Gaga Prince Stone Roses Three of those I reckon. I'm going with AF, SR and FM.

Parachutes and A Rush of Blood get length perfect. X&Y is too overblown. Viva and MX are too short.
-
LP6
A lot of Viva was short as well. It's their thing at the moment. Some of my favourite Coldplay songs are over the 5-minute mark... White Shadows, A Rush of Blood to the Head, Everything's Not Lost...

LP6
I'm interested to see a few things... - Will they go for another non-English title? - What form of art will they presumably go for, after straightforward brush-painting and graffiti? - What will the over-arching theme be? If any? - Will LP6 conclude another trilogy? - Will there be any big-name collaborations? - Now that Chris is reportedly moving to LA, will there be more individual songwriting taking place? - Will we finally see a song sung by Will, who is featuring more and more predominantly by album?
