  1. Shocking that people still continue to miss the point of this thread.
  2. Most of these artist suggestions make me very sad :(

  9. Thanks for putting this together. Just a quick glance confirms that the large majority of albums voted into the Top 50 weren't exactly critics' choices.
  10. Umm... I was told there would be lots and lots of boobies in this video. :inquisitive:
  11. I'm disappointed my borderline obsessive post about Nicola Roberts has been relegated to the previous page. :( But whatever, I'll take every opportunity (i.e. right now) to promote the best pop album of 2011 :awesome: BTW, one thing I would definitely be interested in seeing is a correlational study of the albums voted by people here and their corresponding Metascores. It would be an interesting, albeit imperfect, method of seeing if people's opinion of the Top Albums is in tune with the music critics'.
  12. Nicola Roberts - Cinderella's Eyes  "It must be hard being Nicola Roberts. 13. OMG I am glad you are back Saffire. I thought you had been detained indefinitely because of the NDAA.
  14. Great analogy to describe Born to Die: "Listening to Born To Die is like watching a movie billed as a comedy and discovering that the only funny scenes are in the previews; in this case, the high-definition videos of Del Rey performing a pretty good song." - Consequence of Sound
  15. For people not familiar with Steve Reich, here's Jonny Greenwood performing an interpretation of a Reich piece called Electric Counterpoint. I strongly encourage you to listen with headphones: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pmf7HwqHSJM]Jonny Greenwood, Electric Counterpoint, Krakow 2011 - YouTube[/ame]
  16. Hipster rule #1: True hipsters don't declare themselves as hipsters. :snobby:
  17. I'm glad my super long + unnecessary nostalgic post about the 90s is in this thread. Proudest moment of my life.
  18. Steve Reich to Perform Piece Inspired By Radiohead http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/culture/lucyjones/100060093/steve-reichs-radiohead-composition-will-confirm-their-status-in-the-classical-world/ "So why is this exciting? First, it confirms Radiohead's status as the first great classical rock band. I don't mean sleeveless-vest-wearing-beer-swigging classic rock, I mean a rock band whose writing is so complex, elastic and rich that it is more akin to classical music than pop and rock. Kid A marked a shift away from reliance on the predictable AABA forms and middle-eights of "popular music" and saw the band hurling themselves into something completely new and experimental. Influenced by jazz and classical music, they stepped apart from indie rock and britpop, blowing expectations into space."
  19. Hate to rain on everyone's parade but people's interpretation of the "Unique Taste" list is flawed. For example, let's say this was my submission: 1) Vices and Virtues - Panic! at the Disco 2) When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes - Yellowcard 3) Screaming Bloody Murder - Sum 41 4) Alpocalypse - "Weird Al" Yankovic 5) Get Your Heart On! - Simple Plan 6) I'm American - Billy Ray Cyrus 7) This Loud Morning - David Cook 8) When the Sun Goes Down - Selena Gomez & the Scene 9) Sunshine State of Mind - We the Kings 10) Rabbits on the Run - Vanessa Carlton 11) Sky Full of Holes - Fountains of Wayne 12) Vice Verses - Switchfoot 13) Evanescence - Evanescence 14) Stronger - Kelly Clarkson 15) Clancy's Tavern - Toby Keith 16) Under the Mistletoe - Justin Bieber 17) Break the Spell - Daughtry 18) The Path of Totality - Korn Now that list would be one of the most unique but would you consider it to be hipster? (To be fair, I guess maybe in an ironic fashion...)
  20. I was too old to really enjoy them but people tell me all the time the 90s had the best cartoons and toys. And who can forget the video games like GoldenEye 007 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time? I'm getting all nostalgic...
  21. Well I have a 151 I.Q. & a 4.1 GPA So....
  22. OMG!!! "[The Avalanches] said the album is definitely going to come out this year. And I heard Danny Brown is going to guest on the record, too." http://pitchfork.com/news/45257-jennifer-herrema-talks-avalanches-collaboration-new-album/
  23. I'm actually starting to feel really bad for her. The reviews are trickling in and for the most part, they are slamming the album like Pitchfork did. I'm not really surprised by the album's reception. In fact, I posted a couple of weeks ago that this album was probably going to be a massive flop. There was just too much hype and anticipation that the album just couldn't meet. But more than that, I wrote how with the exception of Video Games and Blue Jeans, the songs were mediocre at best (this was all before the leak). After getting the album, my suspicions were confirmed. Video Games remains the highlight of the album while the other songs just try too hard to fit this "Lana Del Rey" image. Not to mention the lyrics are some of the worst in recent memory.
  24. P4K has spoken: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/16223-lana-del-rey/ 5.5 :laugh3:
