  1. Completely agree except I just don't see the humor in people dancing around in an elephant costume. I might have found that somewhat amusing when I was in elementary school but now? How long do you think it took to dream up this brilliant concept? 5 minutes? (If it took any longer, then something has gone seriously wrong)
  2. Me too (and this wasn't clouded by my dislike for the song)
  3. Isn't that Lore's point though?
  4. Completely agree with your first point - that's why I made sure to note that it's still early and we don't know what the rest of the "reputable" critics will think about the album. Well, except for P4k :P Addressing your second point, I actually asked that question a while back and I think someone said they signed with another music label (I want to say Universal).
  5. It makes perfect sense - they didn't like the other songs
  6. I don't understand this portion - are you saying music reviews should not be opinionated? Aren't music reviews just the critics giving their own take/opinion on the album?
  7. 1) A Rush of Blood to the Head (8 out of 10) 2) Parachutes (7.5 out of 10) 3) Mylo Xyloto (6.5 out of 10) 4) Viva la Vida (6 out of 10) 5) X&Y (3 out of 10)
  8. Again, what about NME's reviews for previous Coldplay albums? Parachutes: 9/10 AROBTTH: 9/10 X&Y: 9/10 Viva la Vida: 8/10
  9. Well, from "reputable" sources (and I use the term loosely): BBC - 8/10 Mojo - 8/10 Spin - 7/10 Rolling Stone - 7/10 Uncut - 6/10 NME - 5/10 That's roughly an average of 6.8 out of 10 (again it's still early so difficult to really gauge critical consensus)
  10. To be fair, it's still early so there aren't enough reviews. That being said, if critical reception to the album is wholly negative (similar to the backlash after X&Y), will it motivate Coldplay to make drastic changes? Or will they continue along the road to mediocrity?
  11. NME on X&Y: "This album cannot fail..." :laugh3:
  12. To put it in perspective, NME's ratings for: Parachutes - 9/10 A Rush of Blood to the Head - 9/10 X&Y - 9/10 Viva la Vida - 8/10 Not to mention they gave Princess of China an 8/10. So I don't think it's fair to say NME just hates on Coldplay. That being said, I still think NME is worthless.
  13. I think the next 2 will be Princess of China and Charlie Brown (not necessarily in this order). I do think there will be a 5th single and I'm leaning towards Hurts like Heaven.
  14. Oh I'm not saying I agree with their blurb - in fact I did note that NME is a substandard publication. That being said, the average rating (so far) for Mylo Xyloto on Any Decent Music (ADM) is 67%.
  15. NME (which admittedly is a substandard publication) gave Mylo Xyloto a 5 out of 10. "There's nothing wrong as such with Mylo Xyloto. It just feels like, once again, Coldplay have done the selfless thing and gone out to protect EMI's share price." (Print edition only)
  16. Admittedly, there are some people who do have generic comments like the new album is bad because it's "mainstream" (whatever that means ) but I feel for the most part, the "haters" have been detailing the reasons why they dislike the album - at least the people on the World of Music forum have been.
  17. P4K is easily going to hate on this album... like with all Coldplay albums :P
  18. Mylo Xyloto is definitely not electronica
  19. Exactly, there's no reason why the instrumentals are separate from the tracks. An example of an instrumental track that fits perfectly within the context of an album is Treefingers on Radiohead's Kid A. Do I go out of my way to listen to Treefingers? No, but it makes sense that it's a separate track within the context of the album, especially following the emotional climax of How to Disappear Completely.
  20. Part 2 has 3 stinkers: Major Minus, Up In Flames and Princess of China
  21. Why do you hate the fact that people don't like the album?
  22. No, I would still dislike the song. In case you're wondering, I didn't like just the band was playing the song either. If anything, Rihanna rescued the song from being a complete disaster.
