saw in twitter that matt bellamy (among other known people) were at the show

So according to twitter, they spent around 3 hours playing the new album as well as older hits. apparently played the scientist this time around. also of course as mentioned in another thread before, chris mentioned that this will be a tv special aired in nbc in a month or so. and chris was cracking jokes and talking to the audience today.

that would be me :) anyway, glad that it seems more likely a band decision.

I have a feeling that the band might have a limited involvement in this since they have an important show tonight. but who knows what this actually is. looking forward to hearing from the attendees.

the consensus is that the taping is for a DVD. only time will tell I guess. impatient to here more about the songs. I guess we won't until a fellow coldplayer from here goes to the show on saturday.

so the concert just ended and apparently they played the whole new album + older songs. the reviews on twitter are off the charts. also they signed thank you notes. it was filmed, not sure for what. no phones allowed inside.

so they are taking maximum precautions.

i have had a similar feeling on NBC and the show tapings. especially since the 'voice' announcement. but have you seen anything other than just rumours or speculation?

I am stunned that coldplay would give 3 new songs only for target. what happened to the "album as an art form"? don't get me wrong, love that we get 3 more new songs but so far, only people in US can get these officially right?

Agreed except to a certain extent on the MX thing. you can argue for an artistic drive there. but taking part in a cheap talent show reality tv is a low point. i'm sure that this had to go through the band since this is obviously tied up with the promotion for the album. hard to believe that guy and will agreed to this.

you know, i was thinking.. may be this is a deal with the devil. they have a 2-hour show taping coming up later this week and i see no reason why such a thing would happen at the very beginning of the era other than to promote the album when it is released. what if this is a some kind of deal with nbc to get an airing slot or something similar? it's not like they can sell a movie/dvd without first getting people hyped up for the album, so i don't see how the 2-hour show taped will be used like the live dvds we've seen so far. there are a lot of 'if's here. guess we'll know for sure within 2 months.

and to think that this era was coming along wonderfully understated.. this undermines what i thought this album would represent.

i am partly disappointed that chris is doing this and of course everything he does is reflected on the band. partly wish he had kept the low (for a musician of his status anyway) profile he had managed so far, but can't say that i am not looking forward to watching these episodes. hopefully they won't turn out extra cheesy and more to the point of helping out the contestants.

I think this has more to do with the album coming out more than anything else. they need to promote it in order to sell it and with the way they have handled promotion for the album so fare, it doesn't look like it is going to be flooding the media with appearances, interviews, etc. so this becomes an easy platform to get the word across that coldplay have a new album coming out. in the US anyway.

case in point: oracle doesn't know everything. chris has said in interviews that this is an OCD rule to name 3 songs starting with the same letter. maybe the same goes for the color song.

so according to this guy, there are no big tour plans this time around: Met Chris Martin of #Coldplay today at the gym in #SantaMonica, talked about the new songs, says no big tour plans, just low key gigs. that sounds awesome but it would make it impossible to get into these shows.. it would be very very sad if they do small low key shows and you couldn't get in.. link
