1. I think the band did take a year off. I remember Matt saying in interviews when he was promoting the documentary that Coldplay were just getting back together after taking a year off. That was one year after the tour ended. Probably Chris kept the song writing momentum going through the hiatus while the rest of the band took time off.
2. I think it's hard to know who wrote what. Like we see Charlie Brown on piano in early versions, but ended up with Jonny on guitar. Seems it came from Chris. I personally don't mind the band contributions, or lack there of for some of you, on this album. Coldplay has said that they serve the song primarily. Not who does what. To me, that comes out clearly. Like Chris said in an interview recently, a song is done after each member of the band contributes or decides not to. I love most of the songs in their composition on this album. Their song writing skills shine through a lot! And everyone has their moments, to varying degrees. But where they shine, it's glorious!
3. EL songs have been in my head since we got the first singles. Used to be all Arabesque, then Trouble in Town, then different other songs from the album. Old friends is playing in my head as I type this. A very good sign.
4. I for one am very happy to get this album. It may not end up above viva or rush of blood, or even parachutes, but for me, this is the best album they have released in the last decade. This is an album with substance (and some filler), that requires attention and more time to explore. It is very raw, emotional, open and un-freaking-filtered!! For once what a radio DJ said early held up ha! I should learn to trust the band when it comes to their touring plans, because I understand and appreciate that they don't want to do a big world wide tour with this. It is a very respectful decision on their end, considering some of the subject matter in the album. That said, I can't stop listening to trouble in town!! What a gorgeous track!
5. Australian interviews: https://play.acast.com/s/fitzyandwippa/extra-chrismartinhasneverwatchedhisowndoco- View: https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/1193640155124551680?s=19 So no glasto 50 for Coldplay
6. Yeah, I definitely want to see a live show for this album. I joined the fandom just before MX and this is shaping up to be their best album since. Just going by the songs and snippets we have do far. So it is disappointing that the band will not get behind this album and push it like they did for most. I'm hoping for at least GS level of exposure, but doesn't look like that will happen. But I do understand their hesitation and strategy given the subject matter. It is tactful on their (the band, the label) part.
7. So Chris confirmed that they are doing a couple of shows and then going back in to hibernation for the "next thing". No promo trips to Australia. They did one even for GS. So I'm guessing this is going to be a very sparse, mostly off radar album. Definitely very intentional decision. So any of us would be very lucky to attend a show/live performance this era.
8. I'd say these are from Church
9. Based on the credits, Jonny is not playing on this song at all.
10. 9am PST. Will be that time again in 16mins.
11. And now we know who put a stop to swearing in records until now. Will, of course.
12. I don't understand why they would release everyday life as a single either. Feel like even Arabesque would fair better. And usually the second single is the big single from every album. If this is the big defining single for this era, maybe the rest of the songs are not that radio friendly.

Welcome :)
14. No idea who wrote it, but Jonny doesn't play any instruments on the song. Not even a hand clap as someone pointed out before haha View: https://twitter.com/coldplaying/status/1187443098097520640?s=19

Welcome to the forum :) we have a lot of harveytown residents here!
16. Woah! Does this explain the flower reference in the projected sequence?? There is a flying reference for the birds and of course for fire/explosions. Pretty amazing if that's the case. 17. Actually the wiring has been in the bakery since viva era. They may be using the phrase for this album, but don't think there was a direct correlation way back when.
18. Jan/Feb time frame I think.
19. Been listening to this song since we got it and still can't get over it. This is beyond what I was hoping for. I was cautiously optimistic about the album before, but cautious is going out the window now. Album can't come soon enough. I definitely want to hear this song live at least once. But even more than that, I hope we get to see this performed at the Grammys. This song seems tailor-made for it. The global collaboration, the message, the sound. Imagine stromae, the kuti family and le trio joubran on stage with Coldplay!
20. love love love this song! of the last 4 eras, this is the most excited i've been after the initial taste. midnight is a close second, but this takes the cake. love the swearing. meaningfully and impactfully done. only took them 20 years. can't wait for the album now!
21. Very excited reading all the comments about the songs. I'm going to wait for the official release. Just over two hours to go and I have a 30 minute window between meetings just when the songs drop! Good day!
22. Yeah love that continuity. Coldplay can be nerdy like that as we know. I'm excited for the song titles. Curious to hear Guns. Going by the titles, the album seems very political and makes sense that they brought in a cultural advisor to the mix leading up to the release. If Coldplay ends up ruffling some feathers, we'll see. They ruffle feathers just by existing anyway.
23. Did Amazon release the preorders like an hour early? Will we get an official announcement today?
24. We have an official thread name :)
