do you really not remember how chris has mentioned groups like a-ha as a major inspiration early on their career? don't limit yourself to thinking that this is a new addition. chris said in one mx interview that the poppiest song that coldplay had ever done (up to that point) was viva, when the interviewer somewhat implied what you are saying now. chris' interest in pop was shown early on their career. remember how on some rush of blood live shows he played one or two mainstream r&b songs? either as a joke or not, he showed his interests in mainstream pop early on. he may not care what people think about what he says any more and be more outspoken now. doesn't mean that the interests were later developed.

i haven't stopped listening either. and coldplay are trending on twitter! yey for hype.

looking at the polls, what i'm seeing is the disappointed being louder (and more frequent) than the (somewhat) satisfied. reading the comments, i thought i would find a more negative poll result for the song, which is not the case at all.

the thing is, coldplay cannot win, whatever they do. if they went back to the pre viva sonics, there will be a major backlash by media as well as the casual listeners, and some hardcore fans. because two of the main criticisms against coldplay are :everything sounds the same" and "why are they always down in the dumps?" but if they do something new, unless it's traditional "rock" that the more musical fascists approve, then they've sold out, no soul, etc. that's what happens when you are this big and established with more than a decade of work behind you. it's just music afterall.

ok let's be honest, musically, this is the most artistic and challenging we've seen from coldplay in a good while (maybe other than midnight, but the jon hopkins influence there might have been more of a factor). it's one groovy track. nothing like we've heard from coldplay so far. and i don't agree that it's so generic and there's nothing there. there definitely are generic pop elements in there, but the overall quality is pretty tight. let's put our dancing shoes and dance the rest of the night away! it's not like i'll get any sleep now anyway! :)

yes, for sure. i saw some projections where she would be #1 way into december. but coldplay's confidence in their album is a little reassuring i have to say. but, as someone once said, "Confidence. It's the food of the wise man, but the liquor of the fool."
