i know what you mean. i do feel like, chris is his own worst enemy when it comes to creativity, because of certain restrictions he puts on himself. these have been pretty apparent since the parachutes interviews. i do feel like the rest of the band is shining through more and more with their own unique contributions lately more than ever. the obvious example is guy, who grew up in funk music. he is getting to shine and bring in his grooves now! didn't happen before, but it is now.

after watching the aoal video teaser, this just dawned on me. the point is, they don't give a sh*t! they are basically inviting all the mud (or worse) slinging their way and they couldn't care less. really goes to show where they are as a band. it must be fantastic for the band dynamics. and makes me realize that although coldplay have been hinting they don't care what other people think (since about mx), they are finally there! why else would they have noel, beyonce, tove lo, stargate and mary clayton on the same album? have a clip of obama singing amazing grace? or have spoken word of a meaningful poem from 13th century? makes you realize, they probably don't care if they couldn't reach #1 anymore. they are marginalizing quite a lot of people with the choices they have made in this album (including possibly "thanks god" lyric). not to mention releasing it on the heal of adele who is destined to rule for a good several weeks continuously. this is not pandering to the masses like has been constantly put up for debate on this thread. they are just being true to themselves. what i'm trying to say is, realizing this makes me happy for the band. you may not be on board with certain choices they have made on this album (i certainly am not), but they have really left the shackles behind (like chris first said on mx, but didn't really look like it was 100% true). they are being brave by being themselves and being free. they are doing what they want to do and letting us make up our minds. that is free artistry to a level we haven't seen from coldplay before.

i'm thrilled to see a mocapped animation video, because this relates to my work! but then again, what's going on in your heads coldplay? :laugh3:

a little side track. since we've been getting a lot of new interviews, this is a nice little look back at the troublesome time coldplay had right after parachutes. no wonder coldplay are saying they enjoy the band during the newer albums more and more as they mature as people and deal with their circumstances better. i was hoping we'll get these kinds of in-depth profiles of the band this era, but looks like that won't happen. they have become open as well as guarded along the way.

so according to this, the US live premier of aoal will happen on the american music awards on the 22nd. does that mean the james corden event that's happening this week wouldn't be broadcast till then or that it's possibly a bigger event? or the music award people got it wrong..
