This is probably a really old thread, but I'm gonna revive it. :D I love Sara Bareilles' music (almost as much as I love Coldplay). I prefer her less popular songs to her singles (except for maybe Gravity). I'm listening to Breathe Again right now. :)

I agree that the piano is not too great (I wouldn't recommend using the word "awful", it actually hurts the feelings of those who love her cover), but her voice is gorgeous. Has always been. :) The piano arrangement actually goes pretty well with her voice. As to those who have only listened to her hits: I believe her non-hit songs are better. Love Song is most DEFINITELY not her best song. By far. Or King of Anything for that matter - although it may good. Try Breathe Again, Fairytale, Hold My Heart, Winter Song, Between the Lines, and Come Round Soon.

I agree with you for the most part, especially the bit about "the sounds you put in your ears define you as a person." However, I can put up with critical, respectful criticism. What I mean by "critical" is more objective - "I prefer softer to music to that kind of thing," for example. If you acknowledge your personal preferences are not universal, and you respect other musical tastes, that's fine by me. However, if you say "that album was ------" (insert any word you like), without respecting other's opinions and trying to insinuate your opinion onto others forcefuly... that's just plain out mean.
