the lineup this year is awful. it's certainly not worth a £100+ ticket. If Glastonbury hadn't sold out so damn fast, I would have gone there without a doubt. But the festivals are so expensive this year, and the lineups aren't particularly brilliant (except Glasto) so I think I'll give them a miss.

i've been trying to nail the Reptilia solo for a while now, but it's so damn hard. It's a very cool solo indeed. I can play these: Is This It, The Modern Age, Soma, Barely Legal, Someday, Last Nite, Hard To Explain, NYC Cops, Take It Or Leave It, 12:51 Haven't even been bothered to learn Trying Your Luck yet.

It might be easy to pick up, but if you don't take playing the bass seriously, it will absolutely stand out. My old bassist didn't care about what he was doing, and it was clear he just wanted to play bass so he could be in a band. Eventually we sacked him because he couldn't play properly and he made us sound absolutely dreadful. While bass might be the easiest thing to play of the other instruments in a band, they are certainly not "just an excuse to get into a band". The bass is a very important part of a group, giving the overall sound much needed richness and gives a lot more rhythmic integrity and stability. Of course, you can write music that doesn't need bass. For example, Coldplay songs without any bass would sound terrible, but songs by The White Stripes with bass would sound equally appalling. But 97% of bands that use bass simply couldn't do without it. Anyway, to cut a long story short, the bass is a serious instrument and is very important in any band. (by the way - I'm not a bassist, I'm a guitarist, so I'm in no way biased)

Steve Lamacq, Zane Lowe and Jo Whiley are all good, but the majority of commercial radio really annoys me. I hardly ever really listen to it anymore. Xfm and Virgin are both good, but I don't quite live close enough to London to recieve Xfm. And that also means I can only get Virgin in AM rather than FM, which sucks... so I can hardly ever hear them. Besides, I'd rather listen to what I want to listen to from my CD collection, than listen to a playlist of the current top 40 interspersed with stupid comments from DJs and pointless noises in between, trying to make the whole thing more spangly and brilliant.
