Fan song theory time!
True, and a lot of people love Fix You. I just think it's awful lyrically. "When you try your best but you don't succeed, When you get what you want but not what you need, When you feel so tired but you can't sleep, Stuck in reverse." I mean, it sounds like a Hallmarks card poem. Every single line is a cliche. Like - Every. Single. One. No creativity whatsoever. Compare this to the imagination in some of Chris' good lyrics: "I'm gonna buy this place and burn it down, I'm gonna put it six feet underground, I'm gonna buy this place and watch it burn, Do back the things it did to you in return." So much more striking and creative. Sadly lyrics like these have been in the minority over Coldplay's career.

Fan song theory time!
Personally I think he's a pretty poor lyricist, as for Mylo - you can read interpretations like that into any album if you want to, the reason you need the comics is to give the non-story a story. Albums like The Wall tell you a story, albums like Mylo you have to tell it the story, because it isnt actually there. That's why they made the comics, to actually tell the story - which, in keeping with Chris' lyrical style, is cliched as fuck. Technically you could consider Mylo a concept album, but it would be in name only. I think if I could change one thing about Coldplay, it would probably be the lyrics. Chris can write good lyrics, think the songs A Rush of Blood to the Head and Viva la Vida, but all too often he is content with just stringing bland cliches together - think Fix You. Unfortunately I don't see this changing with an album called "A Head Full of Dreams" but who knows? If he puts the effort in, he can write interesting lyrics.

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Didn't realise Don't Panic was so loved tbh, certainly didn't think it might win this one.

Fan song theory time!
If we mean concept album like telling a cohesive story (I.e. The Wall) then Chris is nowhere near a good enough lyricist to pull that off. Mylo is a concept album in name only. However if we mean an album deliberately built around certain themes that tie in with the lyrics and music (I.e. Ok Computer) then Viva and Ghost Stories could both fit that description. Viva is about the grand themes of life, death, war and love - and the music is suitably grand and epic. Ghost Stories is clearly about lost love and the music is therefore downbeat and gloomy in accordance (with one unspeakable exception).

First Single Predictions!
Maybe you could say: POP-ROCK COLDPLAY: Parachutes A Rush of Blood to the Head X&Y ROCK-POP COLDPLAY: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends Mylo Xyloto Ghost Stories Probably A Head Full of Dreams

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Spies. Just.

First Single Predictions!
To me X&Y sounds like a forced, uncreative rehash of A Rush...but enlarged 75% - that they whacked some "space-synths" on at the last minute to make it sound different. It didn't work.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Maybe I made my point poorly. What I was saying was that the pop industry itself today is derived purely from the interests of non-musical corporations - namely the specific creation of socio-economic ideals and an undercurrent of passivity in the face of this - and is deliberately created as such. This, of course, differs distinctively though not massively from what has happened "since the 60s". I don't really see how the idea, flawed as it is, that it's been happening for a few decades makes it any less repulsive. Hope I cleared that up what I meant. Side-note: I really don't understand the mentality of following/supporting a band no matter what. If Coldplay make another album I don't like I don't see why I should consider myself a fan. Same with any other band. I'm a fan if I like the music...is that weird?

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Well, there is always the opinion that pop music today is deliberately simplistic and meaningless trite to encourage passive acceptance and indeed aspiration towards certain social "goals" and recycled emotional trends. On this basis I would regard the pop industry as somewhat morally bankrupt, but the music itself beyond this is of course subjective. PS. I'd much rather have a Chris who is open about thinking that Westlife or whoever is utter shit, than "nicey-nicey" Chris who seemingly loves and gains a placid pleasure from everything he sees.

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Man this is tough...Trouble is Coldplay's first piano ballad and their most honest sounding IMO. Don't Panic is just a dream pop gem and Spies really captures that intense bends-era Radiohead paranoid feel. My vote is...Trouble.

First Single Predictions!
I don't there is much of a Newplay, as much as their is a discernible Oldplay. What I mean by that is that the first 3 records have a clear similarity of style whereas the last 3 have been quite different. Ranking them by sets of three is interesting.... ORIGINAL TRILOGY: 1. A Rush of Blood to the Head 2. Parachutes 3. X&Y SEQUEL TRILOGY: 1. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends 2. Mylo Xyloto 3. Ghost Stories Overall prefer original trilogy but Viva is my favourite era overall. Hoping LP7 draws from Viva the most - more creativity please!

I feel you, I truly do...but the rest are all too good.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
We can all dress as French revolutionaries...if Coldplay love us - why won't they let us know??
-
ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Love the song as I've said, but it's time has come. See You Soon.
-
ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Aaahh I know you of course! Cool to see you elsewhere :) (P.S your username is cooler on here ;) )
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Nah - the stupid sentimental message, the stupid semtimental story, the line "Anything is Possible", the melodramatic performances...all bad...the fact that is has the song True Love playing doesn't help it either tbh...all my opinion of course.
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
You don't like the videos for Every Teardrop is a Waterfall and Hurts Like Heaven? I've rarely thought about their videos but I quite like those... Magic was ok-ish, same as Midnight, but True Love was f**king awful. To be honest I've never given their videos that much thought, but there's been so little news I'm thinking of watching and then ranking them...hmmm...

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
I'm TheEscapist on there :)

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Brothers and Sisters See You Soon is beautiful y'all!
-
LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I don't know if I would call myself an Oldplayer because I don't at all like X&Y and Viva is my favourite Coldplay era - however I will say that I love 3 out of their first 4 albums but find 3 out of their last four mediocre. As for news, I'm pretty confident that the iHeart festival is gonna be the day...(That they're gonna throw a song to us)

ELIMINATION #1: PARACHUTES
Haha and just what are you implying? ;) Shit got real when D'You Know What I Mean lost to Wonderwall in the finale...:)
