Noel is one of my idols and I'm HYPED for Chasing Yesterday ITHOTM - 7/10 BOTMI - 8/10 It's gonna be great, he hasn't been writing this well since (WTS)MG? BTW BOTMI is FAR superior to AKA..WAL
  2. Really excited for NGHFB!!!
  3. Just started reading big-time again and DAAHF is helping me deal with the ending of His Dark Materials... They said it was for kids. They lied.
  4. Random Acts. A great name, mind-boggling how AHFOD was approved by the band.
  5. I think most people worry - including mine - is twofold (what a great word that is) 1. It's not just that Coldplay are incorporating pop into their music (heavily I might add), but the type of pop they're doing - the bland, generic, synth-y stadium yawn-alongs that litter the charts - the pop of Viva La Vida showed how they can combine big choruses and colour with experimentalism and more interesting instrumentation... 2. Coldplay were a rock band. I know lots of people like pop, they can do what they want and they were never exactly Pink Floyd anyway but its sad to see a band who are so capable of combining weighty, more meaningful music with indelible melodies and hooks descend to vacuous lyrics, wishy washy instrumentation and...Rihanna. I might be wrong, hopefully lp7 isn't the disappointment everything seems to suggest it will be and they make something more heavy than MX/GS
  6. To me adding the CD to my collection is the highlight of the album experience.
  7. I would love the band to go back and rework it as they wanted it to be, but that's very unlikely. That diamond few seconds of guitar that was cut from the single version and the superb vocal melody make it good enough - but we all know its a Clocks rewrite...
  8. My interpretation is as follows: Chris is a poor lyricist.
  9. This only helps to confirm my suspicion that Lp7 will be awful. C'mon Chris stop comparing yourself to Rihanna, Pharell ect...

AROBBTH live 2003 vs GPASUYF live 2012
  11. 1. Politik 2. Clocks 3. The Scientist 4. A Rush of Blood to the Head 5. Strawberry Swing
  12. Fighting off tough competition from Ghost Story and O - Midnight gets my vote.
  13. Phil will join the band as air guitarist and Will will mysteriously transform into a hip hop drum machine. No one will notice.
  14. That was just idle speculation lol - yea I can't see any lineup changes but hopefully something will set the next "cycle" apart from this one.
  15. Can't wait to see what happens in the next "cycle" - lp1-7 seems to cover a lot of ground so where they will go with their creative rebirth is intriguing... Perhaps we will see some dramatic alteration like a name change or addition to the line up...the end of the record deal makes the prospekt of lp8-15 all the more enticing. Probably won't be any big change though.
  16. Watched Live 2003 the other day and it just shows how much their sound has changed - not that this is a a bad thing but I wish for more shows (maybe after lp7, but given clues so far probably not) with no confetti for every other track , big lights, costumes, or electronic drum kits - just 4 people playing organic rock music driven by pop melodies and structure... A few lyrics like "AROBTTH" wouldn't hurt either :)
  17. I'd forgotten about the lyrics hunt...that was a really good idea! Also I hope there is another Zane Lowe interview for lp7...
  18. A Head Full of Dreams - Tracklist Ideology Nirvana Satan Put A Dream Into My Head The Mathematician Sun Dials Strife Die The Death Azure Mountain Apple Pendulum Facial Hypertension Bonus Tracks Pools of Floods Black Light Sources Waking Moon Some You Hate Guess the songs guys :)
  19. Probably the result of Chris' early name-drop when in reality they're still working in the album...
  20. If the musician created it in such a way as it was devoid of any personal expression that risked sales, and all lyrics/melody/structure/artwork/videos/promotion ect was devised only for commercial reasons (I.e One Direction) then I would consider that a product, regardless of talent/original motives. Bowie/coldplay would be odd to say the least - not sure how those 2 would match up tbh.
  21. I think this method can be used to separate extremes in quality i.e Sigur Ros>One Direction but breaks down when the intention of the music becomes less purely commercial (key word purely) for instance Ok Computer>Definitely Maybe, Ok Computer is more technically advanced and innovative than Definitely Maybe but then the artistic intentions are different - Definitely Maybe uses simplicity and power to expess itself, being consciously complex would dilute its real meaning. I think you can only objectively quantify quality when the intention is purely commercial like Nicki Minaj, but I would then argue it is no longer true music but a product.
  22. Death and All His Friends - 10/10 song, brilliant. Incidentally, along with Champagne Supernova, my favourite song title ever :) (Strawberry Fields Forever runs it close too)
  23. Tbh, my opinion of Miracles has improved slightly after listening to it from the point of view of a movie soundtrack, it does the whole chliched feel-good number as well as could be expected, however I still hope that this is not the style we get on AHFOD, like many I wish for the organic feel of Parachutes/AROBTTH, but by the chliched feel-good title of lp7 I think I'm going to be disappointed :(
  24. Aaaaaand we're straight back off topic :)
