Tributes are pouring in for the late John Inman, most famous for the BBC comedy Are You Being Served? who has died aged 71. Inman, who passed away in a London hospital, made his name in the 1970s show as Mr Humphries, and coined the catchphrase "I'm free!" His former co-star Wendy Richard said he was "the funniest and most inventive actor" she had ever worked with. The Preston-born actor had been suffering from a hepatitis A infection. The infection, usually caused by eating contaminated food, forced him to cancel the opening of a pantomime in London in December 2004. "He will always be remembered for making us laugh," said Richard. "He will be great…

Boeing Fitting Aircraft With Illegal Parts? Chip that was illegally installed in 2000 could have been utilized to execute 9/11 attacks Paul Joseph Watson & Alex Jones Wednesday, March 7, 2007 Are Boeing fitting their aircraft with illegal devices that could enable terrorists to remotely hijack airliners and crash them into high profile targets? In light of what happened on 9/11, Boeing's blanket denial that this practice has taken place is both highly suspicious and a threat to national security. We called ALPA, the world's largest pilot's union, to ask them if such technology had been installed in commercial airliners and they denied all knowledge…

The 13 "castaways" spending three months on Great Barrier Island for a new BBC reality television show have already arrived on the island to build their own shelter and grow and hunt their own food. They include a lap dancer, a young Conservative, a former drug addict and a "professional psychic", the BBC said today. The original series of Castaway, broadcast seven years ago, followed the lives of 36 TV "villagers" on the Hebridean Island of Taransay. It ran for a year at the turn of the millennium and featured romance, lawsuits and bullying claims. But the NZ-based show will only last for 12 weeks and the group will be joined by a lucky viewer after eight. …

Someone once said that as General Motors goes, so goes it with America. While no one is ready to compare Starbucks with the automotive giant, one should not deny the Seattle-based coffee chain its due when it comes to discerning the cultural Zeitgeist. This may be true especially when it comes to kiosks that allow users to burn custom CDs or load a venti dose of Coldplay onto an MP3 player. In 2004, Starbucks unveiled digital music kiosks in several of their highest-grossing stores, including numerous locations in their home city of Seattle and in Santa Monica, Calif. At the time of the launch, Starbucks had plans to expand the rollout to 2,500 stores through 2006, …

And now, in honor of the early start to daylight saving time, allow me to present "28 Things About DST You’ll Find Wildly Interesting, and If You Don’t, May Your Daughter Grow Up to Emulate Antonella Barba When It Comes to the Subject of Personal Photography." 1) First off, it’s "daylight saving time," not "daylight savings time." 2) The idea of switching the clocks around can be traced to Englishman William Willett. He published a pamphlet in 1907 entitled "A Waste of Daylight." 3) No one listened to him 4) Germany, in 1916, was the first nation to institute DST, with England following soon thereafter. 5) Willett didn’t live to see DST come into use;…

Students at a UK university are working on the Wikipedia online encyclopedia as part of their degree course. Postgraduates at the University of East Anglia are being assessed as they edit existing Wikipedia articles and research and write their own pieces. Wikipedia uses a collaborative form of editing and authorship for its reference material. Politics lecturer, Nicola Pratt, says using Wikipedia can develop students' research skills. The Wikipedia website has divided academics - with a United States university recently banning its history students from using it, because of fears that they would reproduce material without checking its accuracy. And on T…

Two ruling party lawmakers demanded the ambassador's expulsion, calling him a dog and an apostate. Another called for a special parliamentary session for a declaration of war on Israel. Egyptians were outraged by an Israeli documentary film which, according to media reports, alleged an army unit led by Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, now infrastructure minister, may have killed 250 prisoners of war in the Sinai peninsul…

The police are often "not interested, too busy or don't know what to do" when illegal immigrants are reported, says the largest UK traffic warden provider. National Car Parks said it reported the illegal migrants who attempted to get jobs with it, but most "walked away". "Limited resources" for immigration officers also seemed to contribute to a lack of action, the firm told MPs. The Home Office said it was working with employers to make sure they were aware of the law. MPs heard that ID checks were not robust enough nor enforced well and there are lots of "forged documents". Many employers recognised the need for checks but become disenchanted due to "a…

New York City bans racial slur Wed Feb 28, 2007 6:17 PM ET By Daniel Trotta NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York City symbolically banned use of the word nigger on Wednesday, the latest step in a campaign that hopes to expunge the most vile of racial slurs from hip hop music and television. The City Council unanimously declared a moratorium that carries no penalty but aims to stop youth from casually using the word, considered by most Americans to be the most offensive in the English language. The New York City measure follows similar resolutions this month by the New York state assembly and state senate, and supporters of the ban are taking their campaign to The …

Two incendiary devices have been found at an Oxford University college. Bomb disposal experts cordoned off an annex at Templeton College, Kennington, on Monday morning after concerns were raised by a member of staff. The devices were found in a search which had been prompted by claims on an animal rights website that the college had been targeted. Officers specialising in the activities of animal liberation groups were dealing with the incident. A Thames Valley Police spokeswoman stressed this was one line of inquiry, and that she could not confirm the nature of the devices. Bomb disposal experts were called in and the immediate area was evacuated as a p…
