  1. My area makes national news again. The city where i work at got by a couple tornados and its been all over the national news. It took me almost 2 hours to get to work. LADY LAKE, Fla. -- Disaster crews with dogs went from one pile of debris to another in a search for bodies Friday after powerful storms, including at least one tornado, smashed hundreds of homes across central Florida and killed 19 people or more. It was the deadliest combination of thunderstorms and tornados to hit Florida in nearly a decade, cutting a 40-mile swath of destruction across four counties just before daybreak, terrorizing residents of one of the nation's biggest retirement communities, a…

  2. 07.02.2007 13:27 - MADRID Hráči španielskeho futbalového klubu Real Madrid požadujú návrat anglického stredopoliara Davida Beckhama do základnej zostavy tímu. "Sme všetci za to, aby David hral opäť za Real," povedal zastupujúci kapitán Guti. Za bývalého reprezentanta Albionu sa už predtým prihovárali kapitán Raúl, brankár Iker Casillas a obrancovia Ivan Helguera a Michel Salgado. Beckhama vylúčil z tímu pred štyrmi týždňami tréner Fabio Capello po tom, čo hráč oznámil svoj letný odchod do amerického Los Angeles Galaxy. Od toho okamihu sa zúčastňuje iba tréningov "kráľovských", zápasy nútene sleduje z tribúny. Denník Marca v stredu napísal, že taliansky kouč by sa…

Till lunch break us do part Last updated at 23:07pm on 7th February 2007 Comments (7) It's always a touching moment when young sweethearts walk up the aisle. But when they’re still in primary school, it might be asked whether they are rushing things a little. Seven-year-olds Rebecca Bartock and Jack Poyner exchanged vows in traditional style as part of a school project on the stages of life. The bride wore full dress, veil and tiara and was attended by three bridesmaids. The suited, booted and button-holed groom was flanked by a best man. Towering over them, vicar Andrew Baldock conducted the ceremony at All Hallows Church in Chea…

  6. Locked in an eternal embrace Last updated at 12:43pm on 7th February 2007 Comments (50) Their loving embrace has lasted an eternity - well 5000 years to be precise. It is the city where the exiled Romeo dreamed he died and Juliet's kisses breathed life back into his body. Tragically, the lifeless bodies of Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers would soon lie side by side. Yesterday at Mantua, in an amazing echo of that heartrending story, archaeologists revealed the discovery of a couple locked in a tender embrace, one that has endured for more than 5,000 years. The find was unearthed by experts digging at a neolithic site at a less than romant…

First it was in the offices of the company who deals with the London Congestion Charge, than yesterday it was the accountants of the company who sells Speed cameras and now it is the DVLA. Whom is behind those 3 (and more) attacks which seem connected? The work of a motorist with a grudge against the world or someone else?

  9. Life's looking merrier for an earless terrier By LUCY BALLINGER - More by this author » Last updated at 22:27pm on 4th February 2007 Comments His bright eyes and mischievous antics would melt the hardest of hearts. But this puppy found himself abandoned because he suffered the misfortune of being born with no ears. Scroll down for more Experts say they have never seen anything like Weasel the border terrier cross - and hope he can find a new home where his disability won't be an issue. And, despite appearances, it seems the 10-month-old puppy can actually hear, for he is believed to have working inner ears covered by skin. Vets hope they wi…

  10. Trail of dust that could take you to New York and back Last updated at 23:53pm on 6th February 2007 Stuck on the housework circuit, it might seem you are going nowhere fast. But the average woman walks all the way to New York simply by doing the vacuuming, a study has found. Hoover in hand, she paces out 7,300 miles over her lifetime - the equivalent of walking to the Big Apple and back. Vacuuming takes up two days a year - or five months of the houseproud woman's lifetime, according to the study. This marathon effort leaves men biting the dust. Their vacuuming tally adds up to 850 miles - a less glamorous journey from Land's End to John O'G…

  11. 13. Hello folks! I got a Nikon Coolpix S7c model camera for Xmas 2006, and it served its purpose until I dropped it (and God knows I feel terrible about it, I cried when I did because I guard the damn thing and never let anyone touch it and then I drop it on accident!) and now when I turn it on, it seems to be functional except... the lens doesn't take anything in. The screen is still alive and working, but the lens doesn't show any images. It's just black. I can still view pictures, but every time I take a new one, it's just black. I'd really like a solution to fixing this. I'm mortified of telling my parents because they'd probably butcher me, since I broke my last ca…

Waterstone's is looking to set up a helpline for fans of Harry Potter because two important characters in JK Rowling's saga will die in the last instalment to be published this summer. The book chain forecast that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows would become not only the best-selling Harry Potter title but the biggest selling book in history. But that may not bring unalloyed happiness to the nation because of Rowling's warning about the deaths. Debbie Williams, of Waterstone's, said yesterday: "This could be a similar moment to when Take That split up — there could be a lot of upset teenagers out there. We are looking to set up a helpline for them." The seventh bo…

Broadcaster Channel 4 has postponed a series of programmes themed around masturbation. Three shows, including a documentary about a charity "masturbate-athon", have been removed from the schedule. "The programmes are not currently scheduled but will be shown in due course," said a spokesman. Channel 4 has faced strong criticism over the recent series of Celebrity Big Brother, which prompted a record number of complaints over alleged racism. Media watchdog Ofcom is investigating the controversy. The regulator is also reviewing the broadcaster's funding, with Channel 4 seeking a new form of government subsidy, possibly a share of the TV licence fee, to hel…

Teachers have steered the Shakespeare curriculum for younger pupils in England away from Othello and Henry IV Part I in favour of lighter texts. After a poll, plays set for 13 and 14-year-olds in England could include Romeo and Juliet and As You Like It. Othello did not make the list because more than half of those questioned said the themes of sexual jealousy and racism were not suitable for that age. Teachers say the exam system impedes the enjoyment of Shakespeare anyway. A survey of attitudes to Shakespeare's plays among teachers and other experts was commissioned by England's curriculum and exams body the QCA. There is a rolling curriculum for Shakes…

Two men behind a Hollywood movie are locked in a legal battle over who is to blame for the film's failure. The 2005 film Sahara, which starred Matthew McConaughey and Penelope Cruz, was supposed to be the start of a lucrative action franchise. But author Clive Cussler, who sold the story to billionaire Philip Anschutz, claims the adaptation was ruined because of bad scripts. Mr Anschutz said Mr Cussler did not co-operate with his studio. He also claims the author misled Mr Anschutz's firm about his books' popularity. Before the dispute began, both men believed the project would spawn further movies. It made $68m at the US box office. - but is said to…

The avian flu which killed 2,600 turkeys at a Suffolk farm has been confirmed as the H5N1 virus. That strain can be fatal if it is passed on to humans but experts said the outbreak was being contained and posed little danger to people. The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the European Commission carried out virus tests at laboratories in Weybridge, Surrey. The 159,000 other turkeys on the farm will now have to be slaughtered. A three-kilometre protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone will be set up around Holton, which is approximately 27km south-west of Lowestoft. In addition Defra has revoked the national general licence on bird gatherings …

A former secretary at Coca-Cola has been found guilty of plotting to steal the company's secrets and sell them to its rival Pepsi. Joya Williams could face up to 10 years in prison when sentencing takes place at a later date. The court heard that Williams stole confidential documents and samples of new products, passing them to two men to sell to Pepsi for at least $1.5m. The men - Ibrahim Dimson and Edmund Duhaney - have already pleaded guilty. The three were charged last July with stealing product samples and confidential documents from Coca-Cola and trying to sell them to PepsiCo's Pepsi unit.
