The Pawn Shop..

Featured Replies

:embarrased: Does anyone know what one is? I don't know if it's a southern/hick thing or what but I had to visit the place today..

I made a HUGE mistake in our checkbook :/ , so being an adult and not wanting to ask my parents or in-laws for money, I went to a pawn shop and borrowed money against an item of ours. I don't suggest ever doing that, it was quite embarrassing to say the least! But hey on the brightside- I got enough money to put in our account so I didn't bounce any checks!!

So maybe I would suggest the pawn shop.. if you're ever in a pinch. :P

wow. i've always been scared of pawn shops. they just seem like so... i dunno.. scary?

EXACTLY! It's why I was sooo leary to go, but I was hard up.. I mean really! I just hope I get my item back and it's not abused or anything. :/

They've tried to call themselves anything other than a 'pawn shop' here, to get away from their 'history'.

They also do other things like sell reconditioned goods, and cash cheques.

Even so, be very careful about the smallprint. Their conditions are very poor, with high APR's etc

pawn shops... hmmm.... shady places indeed... you find all sorts of dark types there... like Guy :idea2:

:P

sorry... just a bit mellow today

Believe me, I won't be going back! Next time (and hopefully there won't BE a next time!) I'm stupid enough to make a mistake in the checkbook, I'll break down and ask good ol' daddy to help me out.

Thanks.. I think... See, I won't be writing tons of checks and forgetting to log them in anymore! If my dad had known I went to a pawn shop he would've freaked! He's got plenty to go around, so it's no problem for him to give.. but I just felt embarassed, like I needed to take responsibility for my own dumb actions this time. :/

ach, how awful :embarrased:

going to your parents sometimes takes more guts than borrowing from the maffia ... *if you know what I mean*

I wish you a lot of strength. I am sure your dad will understand

Haha..thanks! Yeah it's so embarrassing the few times I've had to ask.. though he's always so nice about it, telling me he had to borrow from his parents lots when they were younger,etc..etc..! He's great, but yeah! It's time I start learning to add and subtract a little bit more carefully!! :D

lol calculace can be quite useful at times ;) :P

Thank God we don't use cheques in Holland. This makes it a lot easier :D

yeah, no cheques :smug: I really hate those things!

We use cash, credit cards (which work differently than in the US.... which doesn't necessarily make it too expensive), we have bank cards, or you simply get a bill and transfer the amount to the bankaccount of whomever you owe money too.

We basically don't use any paper any more, it's the hi-tech age :P ... I think that soon we won't be using cash either :o lol kidding

Heh, yeah I like using my check card too! It's so much easier!

Well, as interesting as our conversation is, my darn legs are falling asleep again. Gotta get to bed for real now!!

Take care! :)

:snore:

 and it's 9:07 am here... lol

Take care! And good luck and for now sleep well!
