I've found another article about that "stolen" taxi of Will's neighbour called Jacqueline Hall, 3 years ago. ;) Someone (I don't know who it was, sorry :D) already mentioned it in the Brit Awards thread. ;)

STROPPY STARS: 'Coldplay threatened to sue me'

For most people, living next door to a star would be great, but it turned into a nightmare for Jacqueline Hall, when an innocent mistake ended in her being threatened with legal action by a member of one of the world's biggest bands.

Jacqueline, 31, has lived quietly next door to Will Champion, the drummer in Coldplay, since January this year. Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Jacqueline rents the flat with her friend Louise in a row of Georgian houses in Kennington, South London.

'When I was told who our neighbours were, I was thrilled but not overawed. Coldplay are a good band but not one of my favourites. We'd joke about the celebs who might pop in next door but that was about it,' she says.

Jacqueline, a primary school teacher, was impressed with how unstarry Will and his fiancee Mariana seemed. Even though their home is worth around pounds 650,000, she'd see them out riding their mountain bikes. 'I spoke to Will a few times when I passed him in the street. We'd have brief chats and I'd ask him how the band was going. He was a lovely, down-to-earth guy.' The only real hint of their showbiz connections was a chauffeur-driven limousine which would occasionally come to their house, and Will and Mariana's engagement party, which Coldplay singer Chris Martin and his fiancee Gwyneth Paltrow attended.

'I was closing my blinds to go to bed when I saw the party outside, and I thought, "Oh my gosh, Gwyneth and Chris are in the back garden!"' says Jacqueline. 'They were laughing and talking, but not all over each other. It was kind of exciting, but I decided to leave them to it - I didn't want to be spotted gawping and for them to think I was a nosy neighbour.'

Jacqueline, used to close-knit communities back in Australia, had tried to make friends with the couple, but found Mariana to be distant.

'I used to teach at a school down the road, and I found out from one of the parents that Mariana was a nursery school teacher and had taught a few of my children. One little boy in my class was severely autistic, so I decided to write a note saying, "I understand you taught the boy in my class with special needs. I'd like to find out more about how I can help him. It'd be great if you could give me a call and we could go for a coffee and discuss it.'"

But she admits she couldn't resist adding a request for tickets to see the band. She says, 'I know it's a bit cheeky but thought it'd be OK.' But Mariana never replied and Jacqueline just assumed she was busy.

A few days later, Jacqueline saw Will outside. 'It was the morning of the Brit Awards and he was sweeping the pavement. I wished him luck at the awards that night. Then he said sorry about the tickets and explained he couldn't even get one for his mum. I told him I understood, and thought it was nice of him to think of us.'

But a few months later in June, Jacqueline's feeling towards her neighbours changed. She booked a taxi for a night out - but unknown to her, Will and Mariana had booked another cab for exactly the same time.

'They normally get picked up by a chauffeur-driven car, not a black cab,' Jacqueline explains. So she didn't look too closely when a taxi pulled up outside, and jumped into it. It was only when she was halfway towards her destination that Jacqueline started to realise something wasn't quite right.

'My phone was ringing when I got in the taxi. I gave the driver my directions and heard him say something like, "Oh, my directions have changed." But I was on the phone and didn't think anything of it. I did hear him mention Coldplay, but I assumed he knew the drummer lived next door.'

Suddenly the driver started shouting into his radio. 'He said to me, "You're not the fare. You're not Coldplay." He got quite aggressive, saying, "Are you trying to use Coldplay's taxi?" I said, "Isn't this my taxi?" Then he said, "You said you were Coldplay." But I'd never said that - I'd thought he was talking about my neighbours.'

'The driver then said, "I bet you do this all the time. Are you after a free ride?"' In tears at his tone, Jacqueline apologised for her mistake and paid double her fare, and asked him to pull over, even though she wasn't at her destination. 'I told him I'd hop out so he could collect my neighbours.'

She could hear his controller on the radio saying the real customers were very angry. 'But I thought it was just a big misunderstanding.'

The following morning Jacqueline went round to apologise to Will and Mariana. They weren't in, so she left a note, explaining she'd inadvertently taken their taxi and apologising.

So Jacqueline was all the more stunned when, the next day, she received a letter from Coldplay's solicitors, Russells, accusing her of 'deception' and 'theft', and that if it happened again, 'our clients will have no hesitation in informing the police'. It also described her two letters as being 'tantamount to nuisance'.

'I was devastated. No one wants to be threatened. My flatmate Louise, who's lived next door to Will and Mariana for three years, marched round to confront them. Apparently, Mariana said it was nothing to do with them and that it was the solicitor's doing. But she'd obviously told the solicitors. It was hurtful to have them say a friendly teacher-to-teacher letter and an apology, sent months apart, were harassment and a nuisance.'

Jacqueline sent a letter to Russells demanding an apology and immediate withdrawal of the threat of legal action. She wrote that she was 'hurt and offended' by their letter and addressed each allegation point by point.

'I was absolutely furious, and said that the language used towards me was an attack on my moral character and perhaps grounds for slander. As a teacher, I protect my reputation. There was no deception on my part.'

Later that day, Mariana approached her in the street and said, 'If you can prove you booked the taxi, Coldplay will apologise to you.' Jacqueline contacted the taxi company she had intended to use and obtained proof of her booking. In response, she received from Russells what she describes as a 'grudging reply and not really an apology at all. But they agreed to drop the legal threat towards me.'

Jacqueline has not had much contact with Will and Mariana since, and admits she avoids them if possible. 'I've had some wonderful experiences here but after the things that have happened to me, I'm now wary of London and the people here. My advice is to keep well away from celebrities.'

Re: Coldplay

Dear Ms Hall

We represent the above artist. Yesterday evening a cab was booked on our client's account for 7.30pm with Radio Taxis to pick up from xxxxxxxxxxxx. This taxi was wrongfully taken by yourself claiming to be authorised by Coldplay, which deception was subsequently discovered. We understand from Radio Taxis that as a consequence, you were ejected from the cab at Parliament Square and that you paid your fare to that destination. The same cab returned to the original address of the intended passenger and the cab undertook the fare for which it was booked.

We are writing to inform you that your actions last night in combination with written correspondence that you have hand-delivered through the letterbox at X XX XXXXXX XX on at least two occasions is tantamount to nuisance which affords our client the right to a civil action against you for damages. Furthermore, your deception last night is a criminal act and should it occur again, our clients will have absolutely no hesitation in informing the police. When you took the cab last night, Radio Taxis told our client you informed the driver that you 'do this all the time'. Rest assured, we have asked Radio Taxis to review our client's account to ascertain all cabs booked and taken from Xx xxxx'x xxxxxx. Should (as you suggest) any such cabs have been taken by yourself (as opposed to the person for whom the cab was intended) and the journey not been paid for by yourself, then your actions would amount to a theft with resultant implications. In the meantime we must reserve all our client's rights in this matter.

Yours sincerely

Russells
