That's the third time I've seen that quoted on here in 2 days, including in one of my posts, lol. I guess we're all hooled. It's soooooo great!

ok. 4th,lol.

If I ever change my siggy again, I think I'll have 'You keep the chocolate biscuits wired up to a car alarm'.:laugh3:

Me likey!! I didn't like Selfish Jean at first, but have you listened to the lyrics? They're BRILLIANT!! And the duet with KT???? So good. It must be a b-side, or something the label blocked, Like Chris and Nelly Furtado's song.

I haven't gotten to my 'downloading computer' yet for the whole album, and I'm going cray-zee waiting to hear it.

I like Selfish Jean from the first time, lol.

And I really love Fran's voice in this song.

Especially when he sang : There will be no guarantee that I'll be here in the morning.

Sooo sexy!! :laugh3:

Btw, could you upload Selfish Jean?

I got it but in poor quality. :(

And also the duet with KT.

I would love to hear it. :D

Thanks a lot!

Martin already did, god bless hiim!

And there's a link to the whole album in this thread somewhere, as well as in the Other Bands Links 2 thread and another Travis thread. Enjoy.:)

Yes, I've tried them before but they didn't work anymore. :(

I'll try the one from David S then.

Thanks! :)

More with Travis

Fran Healy said Travis has a "a power set" planned for their upcoming Coachella appearance and was looking forward to sharing a stage with The Arcade Fire.

"I've seen them many times. It's going to be good to see them in a festival where they'll definitely come to life."

Question: Is Travis raring to get back out on the road?

Answer: Yeah, we've got plenty of energy because of the break. We're going to run as far as it will go. Who knows? We'll either be here the same time next year or not. I'm definitely much more inspired and still writing. It's just nice to be back.

Q: The new album comes out next month. Have you received any early feedback on it yet?

A: We've already put the songs on our MySpace site. We're all kind of new to MySpace. We only started in earnest about 14 weeks ago. No one probably knows we have a MySpace or that we still exist. We've been away for such a long time. But one by one, they're coming. ... We also keep up the MySpace ourselves. We don't get someone to do it. We put a new track on every week for the first eight or nine and the reaction was overwhelming.

Q: What prompted the long wait between studio albums?

A: We needed to make a really, really strong recording. The only way you can do that is not really getting involved in the business. You need a big invisible sign on the door that says, "No entry to anyone in a suit and comfy shoes, i.e. the record company." Dougie said, "You've got to stand up to live before you sit down to write."

Q: I just saw the music video for "Closer," which was shot out here in an Eagle Rock market. How did you like wearing a chipmunk costume?

A: It gave me power. It was very hot, but I wasn't going to bail. That was the most fun we've had apart from the "Sing" video when we had the food fight.

Q: That was done at an old Pasadena mansion.

A: Yeah, we always like coming to Los Angeles, because it's where they make movies. Always going to be a cut above the rest.

Q: Actor Ben Stiller, a friend and fan of the band, makes a cameo in "Closer" as the market manager.

A: I thought, "Ben would be perfect for this." So I emailed him and we did it during a free evening. The shop was still open when we started and all these customers were looking at Ben, going, "Is that really him?"

Q: Back in January, Coldplay's Chris Martin told BBC Radio 1 listeners that Travis "invented my band and lots of others" like Keane and Snow Patrol. What did you think after hearing about that?

A: It was really nice of Chris to say that. When we did "The Man Who," I remember an interview with the NME, which went really well. Afterward, the guy stopped the tape and said, "You know, this is a great record, but it's commercial suicide." I was like, "That's not what I want to hear." It was so incongruent with what was musically going on at the time. Then it went on to sell like 6 million albums (worldwide). That created a playing field for bands who did similar things to go and have similar success.

I absolutely love the new album

Listening to Travis ALWAYS makes me feel good

Yeah it is a great song too. You would think something like that, a song with another star, would be a single. Perhaps it's going to be a non album single with KT Tunstall or maybe just a B side.

I totally forgot about Travis but now with their new album i start to listen them all over again. The new album is very good, better than 12 memories.(imo of course)

Travis rocking with fifth album

The near death of drummer Neil Primrose almost marked the end of the stellar Scottish indie rock band Travis.

It was 2002 when Primrose jumped headfirst into a shallow swimming pool, breaking his neck and almost dying due to spinal damage.

The accident not only served as a wake-up call for the workaholic four-piece band, but also sparked the realisation that if Primrose had to give away the rhythm sticks for good, Travis was finished.

"When Neil had his accident we thought: `Okay this could be it'," said guitarist Andy Dunlop from his base in London.

"He had no feeling in his hands and we knew if that didn't come back then that's Travis. It was tough and once he was given the okay, we had to think: `Do we do the band again?'"

For the five years previously, the school friends had toured the world and rose to success - going from selling 40,000 copies of their debut 1997 album Good Feeling and to securing multi-platinum sales with the next two, The Man Who in 1999 and The Invisible Band in 2001.

They also managed to win the British album of the year gongs at the annual BRIT Awards twice.

While they were riding a career high, Travis felt under pressure and rushed into recording 12 Memories, just five months after Primrose's accident.

Travis frontman Fran Healy later described the offering as a "therapy session".

Fatigued and drained, Dunlop says the mix masters of popular songs Sing and Why Does It Always Rain on Me? hit a crossroads after 12 Memories.

Bailing out of the music industry for three years was the remedy they needed to launch their fifth album, The Boy With No Name, releasing nationally on May 5.

"We left the industry behind, we needed to step away," Dunlop admits.

"The thing is our life looks really glamorous and it's a great life, but it's not very inspiring to write about. No one wants to hear about the inside of a hotel room. We had to go off and live a little and experience the world again away from Travis."

The Boy With No Name, titled after Healy emailed a picture of his yet-to-be named baby to friends with the phrase in the subject line, signifies the initial uniting of Travis as a group more than a decade ago.

"It signifies why we became a band in the first place - for making music," Dunlop said.

"You get caught up in the music industry. This is really a labour of love this record. The thing with this record is we are 100 per cent happy with it and all loved making it. It was like being in a band for the first time again. We took three years because we didn't want to rush it."

The 35-year-old father of one says taking the break unearthed a fresh and mature band.

"I had a baby and he is 16 months now so I got to spend time with him and it's weird because when you're in your 20s you feel immortal and I think with having babies you stop thinking about yourself so much," Dunlop said.

"Before that you become so self-obsessed. When we had him you stop obsessing about yourself and you have someone to look after."

In recent times, Chris Martin, the frontman of multiple Grammy award winning English group Coldplay and husband of Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow, has admitted Travis "invented" his band.

While Dunlop is humbled by Martin's notion, he says it was inevitable that Travis would influence up-coming bands.

"I think he was going a bit far," he laughs.

"But, it's kind of nice. We got slaughtered for a long time for our first album. They said it was nice but too commercial and obviously went on to become this big thing. For bands like Coldplay we have opened certain doors for that might not have been there.

"But you can trace this way back. When a band becomes successful it opens all these doors for other bands to come through."

Travis have visited Australia twice before and Dunlop says the band is looking forward to touring its fifth offering abroad.

"I think there has to be (a tour of Australia)," Dunlop said.

"We only toured nine months for our last record and it was a dark record and quite hard, which was intense. This record is much more up-beat so we can tour a lot longer."

Thrilling a live audience with their tunes is what keeps Travis striving towards their next album release, says Dunlop.

"This is what keeps a band together - live shows and the reactions to your songs," he said.

"Live music is one of the few experiences that people get to sit in a room these days, apart from a sporting event, and enjoy. That's what we love most."

"I think there has to be (a tour of Australia)," Dunlop said.

Well that's encouraging. Hopefully they consider hopping over to NZ for a show after Australia.

But if they don't, and an Australia show is scehduled at a convenient time for me, I shall try my very best to get there!

Travis to play The Hexagon, Reading

Travis_pic_01_resize.487606.full.jpg

TRAVIS are back with new tunes and a new tour, three years on from their last outing 12 Memories.

The new single, Closer, is released on April 23 and they will be calling in to the Reading Hexagon on April 27 to perform it, along with other new and old material.

Having long been regarded as the trailblazers for the emotionally engaging pop anthem, they have clearly rediscovered what made us love them in the first place.

Their new album, The Boy With No Name, a belting collection of bittersweet pop songs from the band Chris Martin says "invented" Coldplay, will be released on Independiente on May 7.

Travis have just returned from filming the Closer promotional video in Los Angeles. Set in a supermarket, with each band member playing a store employee, Fran - clad in a bear suit as the store's mascot - breaks into song, shoppers and their trolleys engage in a synchronised dance routine and drummer Neil dances across the aisles with a customer, until the store's manager - played by long-standing Travis fan, Hollywood star Ben Stiller - breaks up the fun.

Their new live shows will be their first since 2005's T In The Park appearance. Support will come from Brinkman, and their infectious brand of guitar pop.

Standing at the modern-day frontier of an established English songwriting movement, Brinkman draw on the similarly observant styling of The Kinks, The La's and Blur.
