Noni, I studied spanish at the universidad de Granada (there is an international university) Yah, you should visit if you've never been. The alhambra is beautiful and be sure to check it out at night too...I don't know if many people know you can see it at night (different effect) The culture is a bit different there...more flamenco, etc. Andalusia! I also got to visit Sevilla and Cordoba while I was there. Nice cities too!

Question...does everyone have to learn Catalan when they are studying in Barcelona? When I went there everyone knew Spanish, but I know they speak Catalan too. When I was shopping one of the saleswoman stated speaking to me in Catalan...but she figured out by my expression that I could only sepak Spanish. I think it is neat that they speak both languages there.

Where do you live in Barcelona? It's such a big place...I probably won't know. Plus you probably live in the outskirts of the city?

Mmmmh, I have to admit that Catalan is very important here. Spanish and Catalan are co-official languages in Catalonia. Everyone learn it at school, it's used in enterprises, official buildings, transport, education... it's totally introduced in our way of life.

I think you told me you'd like to come here to work. Well, everyone here speaks spanish, of course. But catalan is really used here, it would be good if you learn it. But I think it's not very difficult if you speak spanish.

I live in a neighbourhood in the west of the city. It's not an outskirt because it's the own city, but it's not the centre, of course. But it's a beatiful place, calm and quiet. I love it!! More than 100 years ago this place was a town, but when Barcelona began to grow it became part of the city.

:dozey:

I can't speak about it because I'm still in shock. My therapyst says it's better not trying to talk about that for a few days. Just relax...

:D :D :P

but you are not talking in here.... you are typing.... so start typing already! :/

CHAPTER 1 - BEFORE THE GIG

I woke up really excited and happy just thinking in the night. At the morning my friend Alicia called me to tell me that maybe she and David (his partner, also my friend) weren’t gonna go to the gig because of the money. They wanted to try re-selling the tickets. I understood them but felt really sad and down. The day didn’t begin really well... :/

In the afternoon I had to go to my new job to do the training course and I finished it at 6 pm. The place is just in the back of the venue. It was horrible just standing there trying to learn something and thinking that the guys were just in the back street!! :stunned:

When I arrived there were some people there but the band was already inside, doing the soundcheck.

Now, seeing some pics a girl took with them I’ve realized that they were there around 5.15 pm... Damn it damn nit!! They should have waited for me!!

Well, I heard part of the soundcheck, about 15 minutes, only ‘Happy to hang around’. Around 6.30 pm a lot of journalists came inside the venue to do interviews and I decided to go to a bar and wait for my other friend, Monica.

She arrived at 7.30 pm and we went to the venue. The queue was reaaaaaally long and we waited about 1 hour until the doors opened.

Then I felt scared. I know that the security staff of this venue is really strict and cameras are never allowed. And I had two in my bag. The digi camera is really small and I could hide it, but not the normal camera, bigger. When I arrived at the beginning of the queue the guy looked a bit inside the bag, took it , and felt it. Then I heard the other security guy telling to a girl that she can’t come with a camera. The guy with my bag doubted a bit, looked at my eyes and let me come in. Pheeeeew, saved!! Lucky me!!

:D :D

CHAPTER 2 - IN THE VENUE

We came inside and saw that there were not many people. We stood in a very good place, in the 5th row, between Frannie and Andy. I was soooo excited!! :D And the view was excellent, thanks God the guys around were short... :P :P

My friends called me to tell me that they had decided not to sell the tickets and they were inside. We tried to see each other through the crowd and finally we could see our arms, but they stood a bit far away of the crowd.

Around 9 pm Athlete came to the stage. No one there seemed to know them, except a group of english fans in the 1st row who came from there just to see them. And also me :P . The lead singer spoke with them and thanked them to come.

In my opinion the gig was really good. I liked them and the people around told the same.

One of the best moments was when the singer said that they’ve sold just 250 copies of their album in Spain. He told: ‘C’moon, you can come to Fnac or somewhere and buy it, it’s really good!!’.

And another brilliant moment was when the guy on the keyboards (nice jacket!!) stood up and started to do a strange thing with a kind of radio antenna. He moved his hands really quick around the antenna and it sounded like techno distorsions, like when you try to tune in a radiostation. It was really cool and when he finished the crowd applauded really hard. They guy smiled and waved, he looked happy!!

They played for 30 minuts, more or less. Then my friends called me again to try to join with us. We could see us (a miracle in that place crowded!!) and they could join us. Aaaaaah, I was really happy then!! I turned to them Saying ‘Eeeeh, cameras not allowed? Look at me, I’m a bloody journalist!!’ They said I’m totally crazy, but I don’t know why... :dozey: :P

oh shit, we have chapters?!!!!!!! :stunned:

yayya!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D :D

*starts reading 1-2* ;) :D :D

sweet!!!! *sits and waits for chapter 2 * :P

ohhh im late.. hehe *sits again and waits for chapter 3 * :P

CHAPTER 3 - THE GIG

The lights were down and it sounded the beginning of ‘Happy to hang around’. The lads came on stage and people started to shout, applaude and getting crazy... and my heart beated quicker.

Can’t remember the setlist, I’m horrible at that, but I know they played 20 songs because I saw the setlist after the show.

The sound was perfect. No mistakes, no distorsions, good level. PERFECT. And also the lightings, amazing and cool. They had some huge colums of white lights and when they are on the stage looked great!!

After the 2nd song Frannie says ‘hi everyone, thanks a lot for coming, hope you enjoy it, and I want you welcome Neil, our drummer, because he’s back, yeeeeeah!!’. People were amazing...

I thought I was horrible at lyrics but... what happens in the last gigs i’ve been? No one know the lyrics!! I sang and sang like crazy, my throat was irritated and I only heard myself. I asked one of my friends and she said: ‘Yeeah, everybody around is listening to you’. Gluuuups... :stunned: but when they played the hits then people started to get crazy, specially in Side, Re-offender, etc,.

The guys on stage are great. They looked so happy, so comfortable there. They were smiling, laughing, waving people in the firsts rows, looking everywhere and smiling everyone. They have a great connection with the crowd and that feeling is so great...

I’ve realized that Frannie loves to talk. Really. :P He talks a lot before the songs, explaining the meaning. He said some words in spanish at the beginning but he admitted that he’s very bad but that he was gonna followed in english... Before ‘Turn’ he spoke about the dreams, about fighting to make them true and that... and he said ‘when you’re shy... how you say it in spanish?’. People shouted ‘tímido’ a few times... and he said ‘what? Temi... timi... t... well, you know, shy, ok?’ And he laughed, aaaaw, so sweet... :smug:

Dougie... aaaaw, Dougie is a sexy bitch on stage. He smiles, blinkes and waves everyone. And he does these strange dances...  , so funny, he enjoyed himself. And his funny faces... Aaaaw, he’s great!! It was funny when he played the xylophone... and also when he stood in Fran in a part of a song (can’t remember what) and people started to applaude and shouted... He looked so happy!!

And Andy?? Woooowwwww, I was so surprised!! I always thought he is very calm and quiet. Just the opposite!! He’s totally crazy, a maniac!! He moves a lot, shakes his head, jumps like crazy... including the slow songs!! But his hightligth was when they were playing ‘All I wanna do is rock’ (if I’m not wrong). Suddenly, he climbed the loudspeakers (with the guitar!!), the tech went to help him, but he arrived at the second floor (the venue is not an arena, the 2nd floor is like a long corridor and the people sat down in the 1st row to see the gig), gave the guitar to the tech, waved the people, hugged some fan there, walked the corridor to the backstage and appeared in the stage again, made a bow and followed playing... People turned crazy, applauding him!!. The guys looked at him so astonished and enjoying, and Dougie laughing so crazy... It was fantastic!!

Before ‘Peace the fuck out’ Frannie explained how they asked a lot of people who were in a football match to sing loud the line ‘peace the fuck out’ for the recording, and how the people was very surprised. He said ‘Imagine 40.000 hooligans thinking ‘what the fuck is this, that’s not our song’, but they did it. It was great’. He also said a long speech about freedom, peace and that, and in a certain moment he said ‘because you know all your SHIT leaders...’ and I shouted ‘yeeeeeah!’ raising my arm, expecting everyone was gonna do the same, but no, I was the only one, and I think Fran heard something because he pointed out the area I was in and said ‘yeah’ and he followed... I looked at my friends with this face > :stunned:

One of the highlights (and one of my fave songs) was ‘Turn’. It was so damn brilliant!! The lighting was amazing, people turned crazy singing so incredible loud. Frannie showed his great voice there, he looked very devoted, it was very touched for me seeing him performing that song.

But one of the best moments was when, in the encore, Fran came to the stage alone and said ‘Well, now I’m gonna sing a song but you have to be very quiet, please’. All the people looked at each other surprised... he went to the beginning to the stage, without microphone and the guitar switched off and started to sing Flowers in the window... i don’t know if he did the same in other tours, but it was so special, so beautiful and sweet that I started to cry... oh my god, i’m crying now just remembering!! I felt so touched, so sensitive... It was a magical moment, I can’t describe it with words. Monica, my friend by my side looked at me and said ‘Eeeeh, what’s up? Crying? Aaaaw, it’s normal, that moment is amazing... and she hugged me... but I coudn’t stop crying until the next song. Something to remember.

After that, the couple of my friends turned to me and told me ‘Baby, thanks God we haven’t re-sell the tickets, that moment worths it!!.

And I wasn’t the only one who cried... After ‘As you are’ I turned to my friend Alicia and she was crying... She said ‘Ooooh, it’s my fave song, and it’s so sweet...’. I was so happy been there with them.

The last song was ‘Why does it always rain on me’, they were jumping on the stage, the crowded looked crazy, really really great. But, it was the end. They thanked us a lot of times to coming, they waved and gone. The lights were on and I could hear people sayin the same ‘It has been amazing, these guys are great!!’. And I felt like empty. I was expecting that gig so happy and making the countdown that when it finished I felt like ‘ok, it’s over, and now?’. It was a strange feeling.

And then, and then? did you took pictures then? :wink3:

CHAPTER 4 - AFTER THE GIG

We went off the venue and I convinced Monica to stay with me waiting for them. After all the people were gone there were only about 10-15 persons waiting. Two girls were from France and they had driven for more than 3 hours to see the show. Another guys were from Valencia (more than 3 hours in train far away), a guy from USA but living here who told me that he had seen U2 18 times!!.

We waited for 45 min and I asked to one of the roadies who was working around about the guys and he told me that they have gone to a party in the hotel. But I didn’t wanna believe it. Sometimes the crew said that because they don’t wanna be disturbed... Another guy from the venue told us the same. But I didn’t believe it because the tour buses were there and a lot of bands do these European tours travelling by road at night, and they don’t reserve rooms in a hotel.

I was close to one of the bus tour and a mid-age man was there drinking a Fanta. I asked him if he knew where the guys were.

- ‘In the hotel, I think...’.

- (smiling): ‘Huuuum, are you sure? I thought they were in an after-show party, upstairs’

- ‘Mmmh, who knows? Maybe...

- Aaaah, please, you don’t wanna tell me... Evil man! :wink3:

- (laughing) Naaaah, they’re in the hotel. Definitely. They’ve gone before you all were off...

- Damn it!! And do you know in what hotel they are? (smiling with craftiness)

- No, sorry, don’t know

- C’moooon, you’re lying now!!!

- (laughing) Noooooooo, sure, I’m telling you the truth. Believe me and go home, it’s cold and you’re not gonna miss anything here. They guys aren’t here.

- Ok, then... I believe you know!!

He really seemed honest. We started to talk about his job, he told me that he was with Muse here two weeks ago and that. I asked: ‘Aaaah, they’re great. And do you meet the bands? Wooow, it’s very cool!!’. He answered me: ‘Someone has to do it. It’s just a normal job, like yours’. ‘No, DEFINITELY it’s not like mine!!’.  We chated for a bit, he looked nice and cool.

Then my friend and me decided to go and the guy told me ‘Oh, hope see you another time’...

I hope so too. And next time, I’ll flirt with him to get taking me with him touring with some cool band... Be careful, Travis guys!!

As you can see, I'm not really good summing up eh? :P :P

It's not a real review, just my experience. Sorry to explain it so long... :dozey:
