Coldplay Album Put Back As EMI Shares Plunge

Featured Replies

Shares in EMI Group Plc, the world's third-largest record company, slumped as much as 18 percent after the company cut its fiscal-year earnings forecast.

EMI, where revenue has dropped for three straight years, is counting on new albums to lift earnings. Planned releases from bands Coldplay and Gorillaz will slip into next fiscal year, the company said today, meaning an April release at the very earliest. Recorded music revenue accounts for about 80 percent of EMI's total.

Pretax profit before amortization and one-time costs for the year to March will be about 138 million pounds ($258 million), EMI said in a statement today. Analysts expected 168 million pounds. Recorded music sales will fall between 8 and 9 percent after demand missed estimates and albums were delayed, EMI said.

Shares in EMI had their steepest decline in more than three years, falling as much as 50.5 pence to 230.75 pence. The stock traded at 238.5 pence at 8:40 a.m. in London.

Dammit not april! I've waited far too long for this album

how convienient... and they can all delay it some more by passing it as an April Fools joke

I knew it!!! I stand by my original May 17th date.... :smug:

If 'April' means April 1st or 2nd, I might still have the courage to wait, but if it means April 16th, or 24th for that matter, we're all f*cked

the fiscal year starts in April... so it doesnt really say much... we'll all just have to be patient... *sighs* :(

argh

for gawd's sake

April...don't they think we have waited long enough for this album

my thoughts exactly

They didn't say April. They said April at the very earliest, as that is when the new fiscal quarter year begins. So the album may be released in April, May, June, July.....whenever EMI thinks is the best time for a Coldplay release.

Or maybe they can just release it now, earn some cash, and raise their bottom line this year!!

"And in today's news, Coldplay has single-handedly earned enough money for EMI to bring them from below-expected earnings, to a record year!!"

Heh, it could happen :wink3:

April, May, June, July

i wouldn't classify that as "early" 2005 as they said it would be. damn! release the damn thing already!

Didn't I post this?

:P

yeah, you're right

Early 2005 is between January and April not June or July :/

You can't release that which doesn't exist yet. Its not finished...

And even if it was finished, they're not releasing it this fiscal year.

So again, April at the very earliest, but May or June are possible. Its not being released in early 2005 anymore. Next fiscal year release. That's the point of the article, in my opinion.
