Religion

Featured Replies

For some this is an extremely personal topic, we all have our own beliefs and disbeliefs.

About 3 years ago I could honestly say I didn’t have any belief, nor did I take interest in any religion… but then it all changed.

My ex-girlfriend was taken ill into hospital, with an extremely rare condition called throbotepenic tpenia pepura. Within the space of a week she was seriously ill. It is so scary how in such a short space of time, somebody so close to you can just be ripped from your arms… life put in the balance.

I soon realised that there was nothing I could do. I felt helpless. So, one night… I prayed. Im not sure what I was thinking. I just grabbed my bible (I was given it as a kid) and prayed. Since this event, I parted ways with my ex. But I have learnt so much from this experience. I don’t go to church on Sunday, but I do keep the bible in my room. A simple prayer doesn’t seem to hurt. I try not to tell many people, but as you don’t know me – I thought it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on religion. Have any of you has similar experiences?

This might be the biggest mistake I have ever made, posting this. But hey its worth a try.

never had an experience like that, but I was raised christian, but I havent really followed like im supposed to, but I still believe in God and in the bible and that its all true...

but yeah, a lot of toes will be stepped on in this thread

I have never experienced something of an event as you have.... but I do believe in God.. I am a Catholic.. and I dont go to mass every Sunday like I should either.. however.. I do pray before I go to bed.. and before I get out of bed.. I always do the sign of the cross. (old habit I suppose) Faith is an amazing thing.. no matter what the religion may be... I honestly feel as long as you have faith in 'something' you'll be able to succeed in life.

I don't feel religious either, but when people close to me get sick (a close friend to the family passed away from cancer in a short time last year, and my bf best friend died to tragically) I feel there is something bigger than me that holds me up. I know that sounds cheesy.

I was raised Catholic, but have since fell out of practising it, since there is no one motivating me to go to masses.

Wow  glad I'm not the only one

yup.. I hear ya on the 'motivating' bit... I think the only reason I really felt compelled to go last Sunday was all this Pope biz... but it felt good to go.... today I can't be arsed... I'm feeling too lazy :embarrased:

I didn't even go then, my bf is lutheran, and not practicing so it's hard to drag him out.

What is a lutheran? :stunned:

I'ts a segment of the Christan religion. I was hoping you could actually tell me the different.. I am not sure what it is.

I have been to a Luteran 'service' (they don't call it masses) and some of the passages in their prayers are different, for example the Lord's Prayer is without some of the lines, it's weird.

I actualy used to be religious and stuff, didn't help much though.

I'm not part of any religeon

But I wouldn't mind giving buddism a try :idea2:

Man that sounds like you are in a some store deciding what to pick.

Im creating my own religion.

I call it Megazord.

I was raised a catholic but have not been practising it for some time now. I did pray a lot though when my friend died recently and when my grandmother died a few years back.

haha! I hate when people do that myself.. preaching and stuff.. I would never impose my beliefs on others.. however I do speak my mind, as they would.. but never pressure others to see what i see. ;)

I've always been sort of worried about telling people from western countries what religion I am, cuz then people might just judge me or whatever and look at me and treat me in a different way, especially these days with all this turmoil and stuff. I'm not saying that all westerners are the same, but there was this research that said that a majority of Americans are afraid of people of my faith, and that's really devastating... I just don't want people to put others of my faith down just cuz SOME other people who claim to have the same beliefs that I have give my religion a bad name...

Actually,I feel undecided about religions.I believe in God with all my heart but my thoughts of religions change time to time.
