To tell you the truth, I think that Coldplay just try to be so perfect, which in some cases if good. But I think that Speed of Sound kind of sucks compared to alot of other of their songs. I mean, I like the song, but I don't think it's brilliant and wonderful. The intro is cool, and the lyrics are awesome, but the tune seems too happy and skippy for me. I sure hope that more of their new songs aren't like SoS.

Agree with you there... Trying to be too perfect? But my impression of the song is that they are trying too hard to be happy

you dont need to listen to talk to realize that coldplay havent lost it..listen to speed of sound!! are you kidding that isnt enough proof that coldplay are back and better then ever?

no way.

SOS definitely does not represent the best of Coldplay... I'm sure they have other better songs that would be suitable as X&Y's opening singles

Well if Talk can change your opinions so easily, I'm gonna have to check it out.

I loved SOS, and if Talk is as good as you say,... :D

So what? I haven't say they're bad people

Today's music is just business, a simple way to make a lot of money, and Coldplay is not the exception. I just feel quite sad how they're getting rich through us, yuck

that is the stupidest thing i have heard this month. music is not just business. at leat, what the bands write is not just business. coldplay's music is just...dazzling. the only time music turns into business is when you become what the companies want you to be. and i don't care what anybody says, coldplay will NEVER be like that. one more thing, just because their rich now, does not mean they should be hated. its what you do with the money and your talent is what shows your character. coldplay do charity, donate to charity, and they are my favourite band, in the world ever. what you said was stupid. if you don't like it that theyre getting money because people are buying their albums (shocking, not!) then don't buy the cd!

generally, you have to admit, music nowadays is run as business and i'm trying to think of a time you could be thinking of when record companies did not see music as a means of financial gain.

in the same vein, though, it seems odd steppenwolf disapproves of coldplay making money because as said user just pointed out, it is a business. should we feel more annoyed that these pesky bands don't give away their cds free? i'm never sure if it's just chris or jonny, guy and will as well who support these charitable causes, but at least it's something. plus, their secret rehearsal gig was meant to be secret, until they decided they wanted more people (some of those lucky fans chosen by debs on coldplay.com)...they knock themselves out for fans, it would appear, by being such perfectionists and that in turn helps them, but frankly, i can't complain with the end result...

we live in a capitalist society, it is a business....

personally, i think speed of sound is an awseome song. it shows how much coldplay has evolved from the days of Trouble. the fact that chris hasn't lost any power in his vioce, combined with johnny, guy, and will still kicking ass on the guitar, bass and drums, is enough proff that coldplay is back and better than ever.

U r like, SO rite. :) :) :)

I don't care if they lose it or not, Frankly if everyone loves them so much then they shouldn't really care

Either way, It won't be as big as OK computer

.. though it might become Coldplay's OK Computer....

^ Contrioversial title I know - it really is a continuation of a post I put up on another thread - but what I really meant to ask is... Does anyone think that Coldplay seem to be putting less and less heart into their music?

I agree that their musicianship has improved, by leaps and bounds at that but it seems to have come at a cost - they just seem to be reaching for technical brilliance and in the process have had to let go of what made them so special (at least in my eyes) in the first place - that unique earnestness - best crystalised by Chris singing his heart out He still does sing his heart out, but somehow all that emotion gets smothered out by all the other things going on in their more recent songs. It used to be that their music complemented his singing, but lately they seem to compete instead, which is such a shame

their new songs appeal to a larger audience than their earlier stuff

whether that means they've 'lost it' or not is personal opinion i s'pose

I dunno wot you're on about Gentleparachute. I mean, AROBTTH was a hundred times better than Parachutes, IMO. It had so much emotional songs ( esp. The Scientist, Clocks, Amsterdam, AROBTTH, POLITIK!).

And yeah, you CANNOT judge an album by just one song and a bunch of live ones cuz it isnt the same. Just wait till the album comes out, and you'll be able to hear the whole thing on a hifi with proper speakers, right. THEN judge.

I think SOS is great, but my speaker's don't reveal much of the bass that gives every Coldplay song that special OOOMPH! Can't wait for the album!

Just went to Coachella in Indio California where Coldplay headlined, and they had some new songs to play. Pretty amazing stuff... Esp. Fix you and What If (although I know ppl have heard this one already) :)

nah i prefer parachutes

there was a certain rawness and spontaneity about it that i think they can never get back

nonetheless i look forward to the new album

Talk is my current fave :D

well, if you mean emotionally charged, i pretty much thought all the songs off parachutes fell into that category...

how would we never change and life is for living be emotional?

how could they not be emotional songs? they're about emotions...life is for living, for example, uplifting but slightly regretful? "cause my head just aches when I think of the things that i shouldn't have done, but life is for living, we all know and i don't want to live it alone." inspires a kind of regretful feeling, doesn't it?

parachutes is raw emotion, AROBTTH is more refined and (yes, i'll take it this far) deeper.

kind of lost as to what you're trying to say...i don't think i ever said AROBTTH didn't have emotional songs, i was just merely pointing out in reply to a comment by pai that parachutes was also an emotional album...if you want to get indepth, all music is about some moment or feeling, so it's impossible to say any music made lacks this...however, i do agree with your point to an extent about parachutes having a more raw feel, but AROBTTH didn't lack this either...

I suppose what I'm trying to say is in AROBTTH (and what I've heard in many songs after that)... they've become more self-conscious... As badlydrawngirl wrote, there's less spontaneity...

And yes, Talk rawks! :D
