BUZZ GIGS????

Featured Replies

Coldplay don't need the media's reviews or opinions to advise them that their album is star-worthy. It's the supporters and fans who made them and it's us who should be rewarded with these shows, not the media. Maybe they are "obligated" or "forced" to give up close to 100% of their buzz gig tickets to media types like EMI and HOB and maybe it's simply about the $$$. Pretty sad if you ask me. Can you say SOLDOUT?

Hasn't it always been like this? With Parachutes and AROBTTH also? Buzz gigs are for the media types, to be honest, coldplay (or any other artist) wouldn't have gotten very far without them also and the official tour is for us. Relax.

can you say 'load of bollocks'.........

not all the buzz gigs are strictly for the media.. general public are there too.. the point of a 'buzz gig' is to hype the album.. not to 'prove' anything...

can you say"contradiction"? isn't "hyping the album" out to prove something?

and check out Ebay..search for "Coldplay Toronto" and tell me that paying $600 justifies the "hype" of an album?

let me know when you get a ticket and then we'll talk about buzz giggs being mostly for the meda....

listen here buddy...

Coldplay doesnt have any control over what crap people sell on ebay... no matter how famous or crap a band is, the RECORD LABEL spends money on PROMOTION for the artist's upcoming projects and releases.... HENCE THE LABEL is responsible for all the Coldplay you'll be seeing on TV once the actual album drops.. (the label and their managment team) Have you any idea how the recording industry works... the label needs to ensure they make back in profit every bit of money they have invested into the production of the album as well as promoting.... therefore... who makes or breaks artists.... the public, yes.... but who has the biggest influence on the public..... ehem, the media!! What do you suggest, that they keep playing the local pubs and toilet citcuits in which they were founded in??

Again, not all bizz gigs are for the media.. fans go as well.. (winning tix on a radio show, contests, 'knowing the righ people') Its not an actual tour show.. which is why you have the scammers on ebay selling for $600.... thats why they are called 'buzz gigs' to get the buzz out.. its called PROMOTION.. not selling out.

why do i have to wait for a radio show to get free tickets when i'd just rather pay for a normal ticket anyways? it seems more for the benefit of the radios than the actual artists themselves (ones who are well known anyways).. at this point, i really don't think they need a 'buzz' show to get people interested.. they already are.. after seeing how many people were trying to get tickets for the chicago show.

and why did they advertise the buzz gigs on the radio SO much - if there was only a very slight chance that ordinary people could get them and not that many to sell in the first place?

because thats how the record industry works.... its an ugly business... yes, but its the way of the industry.

just wait until new york.

it just makes me not want to spend money on them anymore.

i guess the "general public" like you depend on the media to tell you what to wear, listen to, etc !!!!! i don't need a sports/musics/food journalist to tell me their album is 3 stars, 4 stars etc.....

then tell me...what majority of the tickets do the "public" actually have access to for these "buzz giggs"? maybe 10%? tickets given away at Radio Stations and other media outlets is not a "normal" way for the general public to see a concert, it is still through the media....

my whole point is that some bands have a say with what their label can and cannot do...and what you said is correct and i don't disagree as it's obvoius how a label works(for some bands), but it's ultimately up to the band to decide if they want to go in that direction....Coldplay don't need these giggs to promote their album and if they depend on their label then they did SELL OUT....i would understand if it's their 1st album, but it's their 3rd....why do they need to feel that they have to depend on the media to promote the ablum? that's what sickens me....

Radiohead don't need buzz giggs nor the media....they play new stuff all the time at their concerts....

Coldplay are still are a good band but I just lost some respect for what they are agreeing to and their method of these giggs....

And it's the band who make money off the tours not the label.....it's a win-win situation for both....band tours more to promote album....band makes money off tour and label makes money of CD sales....

"The artist must educate the critic"

This is what I don't get.. if they are coming to certain city for the "Buzz gig" so..does that mean they'll be coming again or no?

Yeah i think they'll probably be back again, these Buzz gigs are not part of the tour. When the tour officially starts, they'll re-visit those places, if they were planning on doing so before. It would really suck if they didn't visit a city just because they did a buzz gig there!
