i guess that's how he feels when he's in love... i guess? :/

random lyrics are the best lyrics

I agree. But yah, I don't spend very much time analyzing lyrics from songs, if I just like the feel of the song, that's enough for me.

i agree because it's the tune that catches my attention. i never really pay attention to the meaning of the lyrics :D

maybe he sees his life as a story, that has been written and can't be changed :/

You really don't get the metaphor for "tides that I try to swim agaisn't" or "In my place were lines that I couldn't change"? Whoy.

"Tides that I try to swim agaisnt"... I see that as problems that he tries to fight, but like a tide they surely almost always win. and it fits with the song..(put me down upon my knees..oh I beg, I beg and plead)

"In my place were lines I couldn't change".... simply situations that he can't change or make a difference in. again it makes sense.. (I was lost, Crossed lines I shouldn't have crossed)

Of course everyone can see them in a different way, but they're just metaphors. Easy ones at that...Radiohead has wayyyy more complicated ones.

I never think of coldplay as being that abstract. especially next to radiohead. this is a good thing i think. whereas radiohead channels the subconscious, coldplay communicates on a conscious level (meaning chris writes to be understood, and thom yorke is more of a wizard with words). the thing is that you have to have experienced the very specific things that chris is singing about, otherwise it all sounds like rubbish i'm sure. but if you can relate, it's almost as straightforward as it gets.

tides that i tried to swim against makes perfect sense to me.

so do birds came flying from the underground, it was all yellow...

"a hidden diamond you cannot find"

"a secret star that cannot shine over to you"

"i shall be free"

"it's love.

exactly!!!!!! he looks like a wizard too... lol I love Thom as well!

Exactly... You just gotta feel Coldplay songs.

I've never analysed the lyrics, they always just feel right, no matter how nonsensical / unrelated they seem :)

And I always understand them perfectly well

Chris writes songs on a very personal level... All I gotta say is he sure has lived through a lot to be writing what he's writing (I mean I totally connect with his lyrics & their meaning - but I'd say I've had to be pretty messed up emotionally to be able to get what he's singing). I wonder how the relationship with his own father/mother is, he's never spoken about them (or said anything about his parents being supportive & stuff as is usual for most people close to their families)... Or am I mistaken?

I think thats the beauty of music in general. If you're an avid music lover in general.... the fact that when music makes you 'feel'... its an amazing thing. Chris' writing to me is very 'image' related.. in turn, making you feel a certain emotion because it plays on one's memory.... of anything the song can pull emotion from from. ie The Scientist... who hasn't ever felt those feelings.. whether it was a girl who broke your heart (or a guy) or losing some one you love to illness, death, etc. Know what I mean??

ahh I love music..

i think coldplay can be both abstract and direct.... i can't make sense outta "shoot and apple off my head"... but politik is pretty much the most direct song i've ever heard, with chris just saying what he wants, then deciding he wants love more than anything else
