Am I The Only One Who Doesn't Like Swallowed In The Sea?

Featured Replies

Come on, how in the world can anyone like this song? It's probably the most unoriginal song that Coldplay has ever done! The lyrics are pathetic, and the instruments just drag on forever with no real hook to enjoy. Maybe I'm crazy. But I think if they replaced this song with Proof then this album would be so much better.

Good. I'm glad I'm not alone.

I use to hate it aswell. I listened to it abit more and I love it know. Even if it does rhyme alot

It's one of my favorite songs on the album!

but what is likeable in the song anyway apart from the singing?

its better than the Hardest Part.. I hate that one.. :embarrased:

i really dislike proof... i think THAT drags on for WAY too long....

i love Swallowed in the Sea though....

but currently, "Things I Dont Understand" is one of my favorite songs by them... along with Swallowed in the Sea...

I think the real question is, how could someone NOT like this song and like Coldplay? I mean, I think this is one of a handful of tracks on X&Y that could easily be pinned on either of the two previous albums, and it'd be highlight there, too. It's simple, but the way it builds into a hard-impact ballad is very evocative. It works very well, though I'm not sure it can be loved on the first listen alone.

Forget about the lyrics. Chuck 'em out the window. This is Coldplay we're talking about here, and the lyrics are secondary to the music. And "Swallowed in the Sea" has its melodic bases covered.

The thing that bugs me about Swallowed in the Sea is that it was one one of the most unnecessary songs on X&Y IMO. It needs a song like Proof that can give X&Y some much-needed piano which, to me, Fix You and What If don't really provide. But Swallowed in the Sea just sounds too familiar for me to enjoy it. I think it tries too hard to be the "Warning Sign" for this album, but just ends up being Fix You Part 2 only not as touching.

Besides, if they took this song out, then there would be less space/sea talk too.

After repeated listens, I still hates the song. [Hardest Part >> Swallowed........]

the song rhymes WAY too much...

but its a pretty tune...

but god the rhyming!!! oh the rhyming

^haha at first it annoyed me. well all the rhyming in all the songs, since there was a noticable amount.

still kinda does in a minimum, but i still like this song, as well as the others.

ya'll talking about the rhyming---but that is coldplays shit-----the rhyming

thats what makes it sound really kool

plus----as long as its coldplay----i love all their songs :D

I love swallowed in the sea.. it's a really really good song, and I liked it from the very first time I heard it. I always like the ballads more than the up beat songs, and I think Swallowed in the Sea is one of their best songs.

I don't understand why everyone has such a big problem with its lyrics. They're fine by me! :)

It isn't the lyrics that bug me. To me, it's just not a good song. At all.

well... every person has his own taste..

i don't like twisted logic.. it sounds stupid

I think Twisted Logic sounds great. It gives the album some much needed rock.

its better than the Hardest Part.. I hate that one..

Ditto. These are the two songs which I don't like as much as the others.

I think that The Hardest Part and Swallowed in the Sea are the same kind of song. Basically, if you don't like one, you won't like the other. Personally, I love them...and I would rank both of those songs in the Top 5 of the album.

But what's wrong with the lyrics? I understand that they're simple and sometimes don't make sense ("you cut me down a tree and brought it back to me"), but they're heartfelt and easy to relate to. Sometimes bands like to go back to basics for a song or two!

I totally agree with that. Which Coldplay fan is studying how dexterous the lyrics are? Which Coldplay fan doesnt like to sing ''oooooooh aaaaaahh'' together with chris :P When I heard it for the first time I even liked the lyrics at the point he sang about writing a song, as its actually what he does in life :P I mean, personal and warm, I love it! Im not saying its their best, but I do love it cause its unpretentious, warm; Coldplay!

Coldplay is better cold, IMO. That's why I prefer Twisted Logic.
