hey i've been playing bass since 13...anyone like funk music here?

if you can tell me some funk bands then i can tell you if i like funk or not...

 

 

ýou know people use to say a band is like 3 genres/styles so... i can remember any funk band now... :/

I don't really know what Funk music is :huh:

so that's why i asked to the guy who started the thread to explain us what's funk. :idea2:

funk is so lovely....but yeah, tell me some other funk bands & good songs , cuz I only know the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Funkmetal and I always wanted to get to know more...

i didn't know red hot chili peppers are funk :stunned:

here rhcp are clasified as rock not as funk :confused:

Think James Brown, Parliament, Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, Bootsy Collins, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, War, Herbie Hancock (who was also a great jazz musician but "Head Hunters" is as good a funk album as I've heard), Charles Wright.

 

Those artists are all great. Sly and the Family Stone's "Stand!" and James Brown's "Live at the Apollo Volume II" are good places to start if you ask me.

And no the Red Hot Chili Peppers are not funk although they do have some funky songs. :P

i never heard about most bands you said peedston.. well i have to listen them to judge if i like funk or not...

Stevie wonder has a lot of songs that are straight funk. Like "Superstition." Don't get no funkier than that. Or "Higher Ground," "Do Yourself a Favor," "I Wish." Funk masterpieces. :cool:

 

Jamiroquai are sort of funky. They have a lot of other similar influences, though, like Philly soul, disco, and acid jazz. It all depends on how loosely you define the genre, I guess.

I think rhcp are not a typical funk band,because they have no saxofon or trumpet....but their way of playing bass makes them funky...

 

Stevie Wonder and earth wind and fire are typical funk!

well i think we all really need some lessons about music styles... if mr peedston come back to this thread may be he can teach us..

haha I hope so.. I don't know anything about styles.. :/ but I know what music I like and what music I don't like, and in the end it doesn't really matter in what style that music belongs.. right? :D

although.. a little lesson in music styles wouldn't do me any wrong, I suppose :P

i had to do a lesson about funk in school and told the students that there are brass instruments in it!
