Fix You... Apple the inspiration?

Featured Replies

Hey guys. Newcomer to the board, so please bear with me if I did something wrong. :)

Anyways, I have a question that's been nagging at me for awhile. From a personal viewpoint, I take lyrics as however I perceive them, more than being curious why someone writes them the way they do (unless they specifically say something about it). But my brother,a more significant fan of the band than me, had something to say about Fix You. Over the summer, we were discussing the album. And he was telling me how he really didn't get into the whole emotional/touching part of the song, or whatever you want to call it, since he heard that Chris wrote the lyrics for Apple. I guess he didn't want to imagine a one-year old during the "tears stream down your face" parts

The only thing I could find online having to do with this was that a critic suggested he wrote it as an anthem of sorts for his daughter (which my brother could've read), but I'm not sure if that really means anything. I personally always figured it was about loss, and maybe slightly influenced by Chris' wife losing her father.

If anyone can shed light on this, thanks!

Ive mostly seen people talking about it being about his wife, not daughter.

Yeah I think the song is about Gywneth.

I heard that he wrote it for Gwyneth when her father died.

I think it sounds like a daddy daughter song though.

awe.

cute either way.

could that man get any better? :D

I heard that what if was for Gwyneth too... :)

i think the whole cd is for gwyneth!  :D

i've heard many times that fix you was written for gwen when her father died. the song was written so it could mean something different to everyone, it could probably apply to apple also, but the overall theme of the song is loss.

alright...

consensus is Gwyneth, if anything. I do agree with those that said that, of course, it could mean many things from Chris' point of view. so it's probably how you see it (though I'll have to tell my brother that it probably wasn't solely for Apple).

thanks guys, for helping out a first-time poster like myself. and hopefully I'll see you guys around from time to time. ;)

for gwyneth or apple.. I don't care.. the songs are great!!!

It's for Gwynpple.

hehe.. yeah.. I think that too..

and.. what if and fix you are my favourite songs of the album!!

I think you guys are wrong. The band has discussed that the song is about trying to fix someone who loses a person that is very close to him or her. The song has nothing to do with apple. Nothing. Its about trying to help someone you care about recover from a loss.

And a large part of the song coming about was related to I think Will losing someone close to him. (mother maybe)

Yeah I think the song is about Gywneth.

it's kinda obvious the song is about her isnt it tho? :P
