Morning Runner Album

Morning Runners new/debut ( i think...correct me if Im wrong) album came out on thursday. Maybe you've never heard of them, maybe you bought it. :blank:

I bought it, Its good so far, haven't listened to it all. I saw them supporting Coldplay last Summer and downloaded some of their songs, they pretty good. :D

I think the last song on it is tripe but i really like the rest of the album, its short term value is very high, i'll be interested to see if it holds up in my opinions.

Morning Runner split

Reading’s Morning Runner have shuffled from music’s mortal coil.

Making an announcement via the band's MySpace, the recently-dropped Coldplay-ish indie quartet had spent the past year writing a follow-up to their 2006 debut, Wilderness Is Paradise Now. An excerpt of said message reads thusly:

“The first record was obviously a relative commercial failure and heaped pressure on us to have a follow up hit record (the nature of being signed to a major record label). We decided to try and ignore this and write the songs that we wanted and move our music on which we did succeed in doing. However having been encouraged by the label to go away and experiment with what we were doing they made a u turn and decided that the music wasn’t commercially viable and that they didn’t want to put it out.

This wasn’t really a surprise and was understandable from their point being a corporation. We had a couple of days apart to think through what we wanted to do next. When we came to sit down and talk about stuff Tom and Fields came to the decision that they’d had enough. This wasn’t what Matt and Ali wanted particularly but obviously they respect their decision and came to the agreement that with the loss of Tom and Fields they should call it a day.”

“Matt and Ali will probably go on to do other things in music so will hopefully see you again soon.”

So there.

Morning Runner split up

The Reading indie types call it a day

Reading's Morning Runner, who released their debut album 'Wilderness Is Paradise Now' last year, have split up.

The band announced the split via their MySpace page, claiming that pressures from their record label, Parlophone, to make a commercially viable second album led to the split.

"The first record was a relative commercial failure and heaped pressure on us to have a follow up hit record," they wrote. "We tried to ignore this and write the songs that we wanted. However, having been encouraged by the label to go away and experiment, they made a U-turn and decided that the music wasn't commercially viable.

"We had a couple of days apart to think through what we wanted to do next. When we came to sit down and talk about stuff, Tom [Derrett, bass] and Fields [drums] came to the decision that they'd had enough.

"This wasn't what Matt [Greener, vocals] and Ali [Clewer, drums] wanted particularly, but obviously they respect their decision and came to the agreement that with the loss of Tom and Fields they should call it a day."

my god... why? i love their music

RIP :(

The first band I saw in 2005 :(

DAMN YOU WEE PARLOPHONE, YOU WIN THIS TIME

Well they didn't last long, did they??:stunned:

You could say they didn't stay the course, or fell at the first hurdle....................

Falling at the first hurdle is when you fail to release album 1.

Falling at the first hurdle is when you fail to release album 1.

Well in that case, let's make it the second, shall we??

It sounded like the record label wanted the band to do an album which wasn't then, going for sales rather than quantity.
