there's nothing weird about it, but I've been talking to my friend and that's exactly what he would need. He's having bad luck. I've been trying to help him out when he calls his girl friends but things aren't working for him...

life is too damn short, especially when you are young - what have you got to lose?? as you get older, a bunch of other stuff gets in the way then it is not as easy to do what you want, so go for it now. ;)

well, he's shy. but he doesn't not try. he just gets really nervous when he does. He told me he talked to this girl after class one day and got her number and how he could barely talk. I don't think I could do what he did b/c I'm pretty shy too. He really knocked me out when he said he did that. Anyway the real problem he's having is that the girls want to see a confident guy and he's not confident. It's not so much that he's not trying it's that he's not confident.

there has to be some subject that he feels confident talking about (?) - i have a friend kind of like what you are talking about, and he literally will write down topics of conversation before he calls a girl. that way he says he doesn't feel stuck with nothing to say. gotta have a plan if you aren't good at winging it.

I have been trying really really hard to help this guy. I feel like I should walk him up to someone and make him do it right there, but I can't cuz he's in DC. He's 19 and he's never had a girlfriend so he's just not confident.

well he doesn't have to meet the love of his life right off the bat - just be sociable (but you kind of guide him... ) and pretty soon he might want to meet someone just for coffee or something non-committal... ?
