in El Salvador people were killed if you didn't agree with the Us backed gov't- they were re-educated by either brain washing newly recuited soldiers or they just sent in the death squads to finish the job.

Do you know any American Soldiers stationed or previously stationed in Iraq? I do, maybe you should ask them personally. Many still are welcomed, but the people there are understandably guarded - many Iraqi's are murdered by their fellow Allah loving Muslim brothers from other nations simply for being percieved to being friendly to American forces. They are greatful, but you won't see any of this sort of modest gratitude on CNN because it simply wouldn't jibe with anti-administration bent narcissism against this war. That gratitude is shown not with mugging for the cameras waving an American Flag (which could surely get you killed) but with simple smiles and "thank yous". You'd be amazed the differences between what you see on television, and what the troops themselves have to say.

 

It isn't the Iraqi people who don't want us there - if they have any hope at democracy they need our support until they can stand alone.

^ sorry didn't mean to offened just my opinion. i tried not to generalise but i suppose i did anyway, when your not in the action you generalise- but i said "some" Iraqis.

I do not have the abillity to talk to any of the soldiers because i don't know any personally. All the information i get is from the media and these are just snippets of what goes on.

However this should not be an excuse to stop trying to find out what is going on in the world from different view points- i try to keep infomed by various readings, watching news- Jim Lerher a PBS progam they show here for American opinionated news, DW for German opinionated news, Teledario for Spanish opinionated news and the mainstream news provided her in Australia. All the news programs i mentioned show similar things but i have noticed some leave out many certain things and others show more of others. Australian news doesn't very often get opinions of Iraqis but these international ones do, we get alot of opinions from the coalition forces. i would really like to know how it is for american and other international soldiers and what they think about it from them but if not possible from someone who personally knows them like you.

That's utopia! (and I mean it by the original greek meaning - a place, that doesn't and won't exist)

 

You have to build up a world-police state to ensure everyone's doing the right thing or send them possibly in your re-education-centers. But in a police state misuse of power is preassigned - so some day you only have rebellions in your brave new world. Equalisation of people simply doesn't work - the history showed us that.
