In my Place and What If

Featured Replies

Hi there

I'm currently writing my final high school assignment.

I would just like to know if anybody knew the background of In my Place and What if? Also how to analyze their music?

Sincerly

Well I do know that Chris said that In My Place was about your place in the world and how to accept it or something like that... weather short, tal, fat or skinny.

And What If was supposedly written after a fight he had with Gywn, but it's completly unconfirmed.

Sorry for the scrappy info!

Hi there

Also how to analyze their music?

Seriously, just listen to their music and write what YOU think, and not what anyone else thinks :)

I heard that also...

What If seems like a pretty easy song to analyze, too.

Thanks for the replies.

Well, when I wrote analyze their music I was more thinking of how to analyze their music theoritically. How the harmonic triads are and so on?

Thanks in advance

analysis

In My Place:

A major

I-V6-iii-V-I-vi-iii-V7

IV-IV-I-V

(V6 means five in first inversion not V with an added 6th)

"what if" is also in A major

the

vi-I-ii with I pedal-viiº-ii

x2

ii-V7

vi-ii-V7

then the chorus is ii-vi-Iadd6-Vadd6

the chorus changes at the end to:

IV of IV - IV - V - V

Hi there

That's also what I've analyzed, but I don't understand what you mean with the V6?. It's the A triad with a G# in bas, right?

And the only thing I can conclude when analyzing In My Place is the dominant always leads back to tonica. That's the only function I can find, so is it more a modalharmonic?
