Is anyone's favorite X & Y song NOT Fix You?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if anyone's favorite song on X and Y is not Fix You. I love that song, but for me, I think it takes second place to A Message.

of course, I actually think I hate it, it really is that bad. Its one huge mess of a cliche and is, by far, the worst 'song' Coldplay have ever committed to record, however bad they tried to make Swallowed In The Sea.

I strongly believe that this is the worst song Coldplay has ever commited to an album. The musical sense is non-existent for the first half, just a horrible organ noise, some lovely (!) synths, a couple of piano notes and a faded acoustic rythym. The voice of Mr Martin is cruelly ruined by his insistence of singing the whole song in falsetto. Falsetto has it's place, but it is drastically over-used here. Musically, the second part is an improvement, and the only part that makes the song listen-to-able, but it is an attempt at a U2 sound (which I have nothing against, Low and White Shadows use similar methods that pay off) that doesn't come off anything like as well as a U2 song.

However, the point I most take issue with the lyrics. These are so poorly, unimaginatively constructed that they seem to have come straight from a 5-year-old's "My first poetry" book, they are nothing but predictive cliche, words construed together so simply they have no real value.

The first time I heard this song (actually, I didn't manage to listen to it all the way through for about the first 6 or 7 attempts), I found it was so easy to guess the second half of each line having just heard the first, there's no feeling or personality present here.

Fix you is godlike, and message comes in second place ;)

:o .... that is probably one of the most stupid things i've ever heard anyone say .... i know that is your opinion and i respect it, but its bullocks :) ...

Fix You is a powerful song that goes straight to the heart for many people so to say theres no feeling in the song, i just don't understand what you're talking about ... maybe you should try Mcfly, they may give you the feeling you crave ;) ... sorry to snap a bit but i needed to ....

.... anyway  ... Fix You isn't my favourite on the album ... i don't think i have a favourite .. theres a few songs i love :D

Yeah, but "Swalloed in the sea" is also great... :P

Fix You is brilliant but it's not my favorite from the album...

Its really a tie between Talk and A Message

I think square one is the best song on the cd. A message is my next favorite. Fix you is really good, but not the best.

I never liked Talk in the beginning (due to the leak), but it's getting close to one of my favorites from X&Y. Square One and Low are pretty close... Fix You is below all of them now... it lost something somewhere. I'm not sure what or where.

Fix You was my favorite song when I first got X&Y. But I've played it out now.

Yes, I sometimes could guess the second half of the lyrics sometimes, but you can tell it came from the heart.

I'll probably be the only one saying this but I rekon Speed of Sound is the best song on the album...followed by Fix You, Talk and Swallowed in the Sea for me :)

I really agree with you. Seriously.

I prefer "square one". and few tracks as well.

i dont hate 'fix you' but i really think coldplay could hav done it better. Nonetheless it catches many peoples hearts esp. in concerts... so i guess its more of those who can relate to the song or sumtin. :D its not that bad but not very good either...

MY top 3: i like low, white shadows and a message. :P

Defenitely not....its not even in my top 5. Its good and all but not THAT good...just my own opinion...

Fix You was my favorite initially, but it soon fell behind some others. But all my favorites change, so it will eventually rise again. :D

The thing about Fix You is that it is so much more powerful if you are in a situation where it applies to you or someone you love. Also, the first time I ever heard it, it gave me chills. That is pretty telling. :)

Speed of Sound,Low and Square One are my favs

Ditto.

Fix You was my favourite...once... The song that's stuck with me since I bought X&Y in July is White Shadows. The song still brings tears to my eyes when I hear it...almost half a year since I first heard it. It's still my favourite. Still reminds me of the NGWC I attended in July...I feel as if I can easily relate to the lyrics...perhaps too easily

Second is probably Low. Fix You is well down on the list for me. For now, anyway.

i dont think the second part of the song reminds me of U2 at all!! but thats my opinion.. fix you is a great song...maybe the best on x&y

I have to say... I only like the last half of the song. Chris' voice is too high.

It's good live, but Fix You wasn't one of my standout tracks when I first heard X & Y. When I heard it was going to be their second single, I thought they'd gone mad. If they were looking for a UK Number one, I knew they'd not get it with Fix You. However, it's grown on me, and is a pretty solid song, but far from the best on the album. Tracks like A Message, Talk, and my namesake White Shadows are vastly superior!

the best one in the album

For me it's also the best one in the album and one of the best of Coldplay. ;)

It may be a bit of a cliché, but it also speaks to people's hearts.

:santa3:

I love Speed of Sound the best personally......

Fix You can still bring tears to my eyes in the second half of the song but I can understand (during the first half) why some people say to me that they don't "get" Coldplay, as it's not their greatest advertisement.

But if those people who don't "get" Coldplay hang on in there and let themselves get swallowed up by the second half, I think it's a lush reward....

(Mind you I should add that anyone who says they don't "get it" with ColdPlay must be just a little bit dead inside....!)

My favs on "X&Y" are A message, 'Til Kingdom Come, White Shadows and Swallowed in the sea,but Fix you is a very good song and it's difficult to choose only a few songs in this album because,to me, it's absolutely great! ;) ;)
